Coed 1: Midseason Report, Power Rankings, and Game Breakdowns

We are at the midpoint of the winter season and teams have settled into their identities. A few have solidified themselves as legitimate, while others are still trying to find consistency. Here’s a midseason report, updated power rankings, and a breakdown from the most recent game results.
Updated Power Rankings
1. The Merge (5-0)
Still undefeated and previously ranked third, The Merge climb to the top spot as they continue to prove themselves. With the highest points per game average at 43.8 and the best point differential at +63, there’s no reason to rank them anywhere but first at the moment. Their ability to win in multiple ways—whether by overwhelming teams offensively or controlling the game defensively—sets them apart from the competition. Looking at their remaining schedule, I predict they will finish the season with a perfect 10-0 record. The only team I can see beating them is Dominos in a rematch, having previously faced off in week 2. In their most recent game, Marc-Andre Reeves continued to lead the undefeated campaign with another stellar performance, throwing for 246 yards and six touchdowns while adding 40 rushing yards and another score on the ground. Koralie Leduc emerged as his go-to target, shredding the defence for 85 yards and three touchdowns on just four catches.
2. Plenty of Fish (4-2)
Despite two losses on the season and having played one more game than The Merge, Plenty of Fish still lead the division in total points scored. Averaging 40.3 points per game and holding the second-best point differential at +54, they remain an offensive powerhouse. They also top the division in takeaways and sacks, with 12 interceptions and 11 sacks. However, a tough stretch of games looms ahead, providing an opportunity for other teams to surpass the previously ranked number one squad. Between weeks 10 and 12, they will face The IG Team in week 10, Dominos in week 11, and The Merge in week 12. How they navigate this stretch will determine whether they can maintain their position. In their most recent loss, Plenty of Fish’s defence struggled to keep pace, ultimately costing them the game. Maude Lacasse put up another strong performance with 257 passing yards and six touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to offset the defensive lapses. Despite still leading the division in scoring, losses have raised questions about whether Plenty of Fish can sustain their dominance.
3. Dominos (2-2)
The Dominos are falling into place, steadily climbing the rankings, and if they keep up this momentum, they could very well find themselves in the top two before the season ends. A bold prediction? They finish with an 8-2 record, winning out the rest of their games after a 0-2 start. Their latest performance was nothing short of dominant, as they completely dismantled Monarchs in a statement win. Defensively, they were relentless, completely shutting them out in the second half. Quaysie Gordon-Maule was the star of the unit, snagging three interceptions and setting the tone for the defence. On the other side of the ball, Dominos’ offence continued to showcase its depth. Gigi Cabillo-Abante finally broke through for a touchdown, while Emma Townsend-Asselin put on a route-running clinic, scoring twice, including an ankle-breaking hook-and-go route that didn’t result in a reception, but left the defender in the dust. With everything clicking, Dominos look like a team primed for a deep run.
4. The IG Team (3-1)
They’re struggling to find consistency—a surprising turn for a team that had high expectations coming into the season. After starting undefeated, their recent game against EZFun exposed some offensive struggles. Quarterback Jeanslee Alexis managed just 78 passing yards on 8-for-21 passing, though he did connect on two touchdown passes, one to Jordanson Alexis and another to Marvin Steinberg. However, his two interceptions proved costly, stalling key drives and allowing EZFun to dictate the game’s tempo. This team has too much talent to be struggling this badly. With the pieces they have, it’s hard to imagine them staying in this slump for long. If they can clean up their mistakes and find their rhythm, expect them to heat up in the second half of the season.
5. Kiss My End Zone (2-2)
After a slow start, Kiss My End Zone is finding their stride and delivered a statement victory, taking down Hooshmazoos 30-19 in a game where they controlled the pace from start to finish. This win showcased their ability to slow down one of the league’s most dangerous offences, holding Hooshmazoos to just six second-half points. Quarterback Jimmy-Lee Janvier led the way with an efficient showing.
6. BanaNiceTry (3-2)

7. Hooshmazoos (3-2)

8. Pass Whoopin’ (2-3)
Pass Whoopin’ has had an up-and-down season, but they remain a dangerous team capable of pushing any opponent to the limit. Their recent matchup against Plenty of Fish was a throwback, with Iggy stepping in at quarterback. In a previous postseason matchup, Iggy led his squad to a one-point victory over Plenty of Fish, but this time, they were the ones getting their revenge. Although he wasn’t throwing with his usual team and has been away from the league for a while since moving, he still had chemistry with wide receiver Jerome Hovington. Despite staying competitive throughout the game, Pass Whoopin’ couldn’t capitalize on key opportunities, falling just short in a tight game. They found themselves in another heartbreaker against The Merge, losing 47-44 in what was arguably one of the most explosive games of the season. An offensive shootout from start to finish, both teams combined for 13 passing touchdowns and over 500 yards through the air. But despite their resilience, Pass Whoopin’ couldn’t quite complete the upset. Quarterback Chris Rivest delivered one of the best performances of the season, throwing for 300 yards and seven touchdowns, keeping his team in the fight until the very end. While they’ve come up just short in some close battles, this team has shown they can go toe-to-toe with the best in the division.
On the Outside Looking In
9. EZFun (2-4) Their margin for error is shrinking, but EZFun secured a crucial victory in a game defined by defensive battles and field position, pulling off a gritty 19-14 upset over The IG Team to hand them their first loss of the season. While most games in Coed 1 have been dominated by high-powered offences, this one played out differently, as both teams struggled to find rhythm, turning it into a defensive showdown where key takeaways and timely stops made all the difference. EZFun’s quarterback, Nicolas Blais, played a composed and efficient game, completing 22 of 27 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns. Though his yardage totals weren’t overwhelming, his ability to distribute the ball effectively kept the offence moving. He connected with Frédérique Daoust and Francois Rochette for touchdowns, while Jean-Christophe Ferland remained his go-to target, hauling in seven receptions for 41 yards. Defensively, EZFun capitalized on their chances, forcing two critical interceptions, with Jeremy White and Francois Rochette each getting one. EZFun proved they are still a team to watch down the stretch.
10. Monarchs (1-3)

11. Fitsquad (1-4) In one of the most shocking upsets of the season so far, Fitsquad finally broke through in dominant fashion, securing their first win with a 47-38 victory over Plenty of Fish. In a game where both offences were firing on all cylinders, Fitsquad set the tone early, exploding for 28 first-half points and never relinquishing control. After struggling with inconsistency, this performance proved they are more than capable of competing. Quarterback William Brouard delivered a near-flawless performance, lighting up the scoreboard with 269 passing yards and seven touchdowns while avoiding any interceptions. He orchestrated a well-balanced attack, distributing the ball to multiple playmakers. Alexie Galarneau and Hugo Lépine each found the end zone twice, while Boudjema Saada led all receivers with 69 yards and added a score. Frédéric Chevarie and David Michaud rounded out the offensive outburst with a touchdown apiece, showcasing versatility. Defensively, they made just enough plays to prevent a Plenty of Fish comeback. Despite giving up 38 points, the defence stepped up when it mattered most. Hugo Lépine secured a critical interception, while Alexie Galarneau registered two sacks to disrupt the passing game. This win is monumental. After starting the season 0-4, they proved they can compete and if this version continues to show up, they may still have a shot at climbing back into playoff contention.
12. Party Mix (1-4) Finally secured their first win of the season, edging out EZFun 31-30 in a back-and-forth battle. With the victory, every team in Coed 1 has now recorded at least one win. The key to Party Mix’s breakthrough? Their new quarterback, Olivier Laberge, who has been a stabilizing force, delivering a strong performance. Laberge was in full command of the offence, putting together an efficient 23-for-32 passing performance, throwing for 204 yards and five touchdowns. His ability to spread the ball around was crucial, as he connected with five different receivers throughout the game. Jonathan Chevalier had a breakout game with three touchdown receptions, while Elodie Fournier contributed a game-high eight catches for 69 yards and a score. Defensively, they did just enough to hold off EZFun’s late push on a game winner 2-point convert attempt. Élodie Lachapelle was a standout, leading the team with six tackles and providing much-needed stability in key moments. For a team that had been searching for answers, this victory could be the turning point they needed. If they can build on this momentum, they could still play spoiler and shake up the standings in the second half of the season.
