Co-Ed Week 5 Recap

It was a quiet week in the co-ed division given that the most American thing us Canadians do was this past Sunday so it was FlagPlus Football bye week. Except for the two games that took place this past Saturday which were rescheduled from the week 2 ice out.

  • Served With Girls vs. TC

In my opinion the outcome of this game was considered an upset but I am pretty sure that Served With Girls strongly disagrees with me and that is fine because the certainly proved me wrong this week. They came away with a 25-6 Victory over TC.

Karl Lavallée had his best game of the season against TC. He made sure to spread the ball well among all his receivers; keeping the defense guessing and picking his spot to throw for a touchdown. He found his receivers in the endzone four times racking up almost 200 yards in the air. An outstanding game from Karl and I am sure that it is the one he would like to repeat for the rest of the season. He helped himself out on the defensive side of the ball coming down with an interception which got into the head of the opposing quarterback.

The newest addition to the Served With Girls team had himself a day proving to be a real difference maker for them. Anthony Deland made a huge impact on his FPF debut and it did not take long for him to make his presence known. He finished the game with nine catches for over 110 yards and he single handedly put up more points than the opposition. He was a real nightmare for the opposing team to deal with. He was also a shutdown player on the defensive side. He came down with the other interception thrown by the opposing quarterback and that just sealed the victory. An outstanding beginning to what could be a key addition in the long run for Served With Girls.

The defense as a whole was tremendous shutting down an All Star Quarterback and allowing just six points. The team effort was amazing and every player on the defensive side of the ball had an impact. Sandra Clement continued to prove why she is one of the best defensive players in this division. She came up with three tackles but she followed the golden rule for defensive players and let absolutely nobody behind her. She kept the play in front of her and was able to ensure the opposing receivers have no deadly impact on the outcome of the game. Another defensive standout was Jonathan Labonté who had a tackle but the important stat line for him was the pass defenses. He came through with two pass defenses which could have easily turned into 12 points for the opposing team.

It was not a performance to remember for All Star Quarterback Vanessa Birri. She struggled throughout the game completing less than half her passes and throwing two interceptions. A performance I am sure she would want back but I am not going to say that this performance defies her. She has proven in the past that she can be a real game changer and I am sure that she will take this performance leave it in the past and focus on her game and comeback strong.

The receivers for TC were shut down most of the game but that did not stop Jacques Void from finding the endzone. He was the only one on his team to find the endzone and that is to no one’s surprise as he is used to competing at the top level on FlagPlus Football competition. On the defensive side of the ball he was one of the guy’s least targeted by the opposing quarterback because he is known to be a defensive threat but he still ended the game with three tackles.

The defense struggled which is not the standard for TC but there was one player in particular that stuck to their game and tried their best to limit the damage caused by the opposing offense and that player is Émilie Tardif. Émilie had three tackles and to add to that she had one interception which could have change the entirety of the game had it been capitalized on. She also had a pass defense which could have been an interception had it not been right outside her reach. She is a very dangerous defensive back to target and she has proved that time and time again. Do not take her level of talent lightly as it may end up hurting you in when all is said and done.

  • It’s a Match vs. Michael Scott’s Tots

This game was pretty one sided from the very beginning and when you thought it would turn around it was shot down by costly turnovers. The end result was a 37-18 victory from Michael Scott’s Tots who came to play.

A quarterback change proved to be too late for a comeback effort for It’s A Match. Started the game off with François Éthier behind center and to be fair he did not have that bad of a game. He completed half of his passes and he threw two touchdowns’ although the two interceptions that were also thrown is probably the main reason for the change but it was too late. In came Benoit Lawlor and he played well unfortunately it was too late. He added a touchdown pass of his own and given the limited time he had and the good defense he faced it was a good outcome at quarterback for Benoit.

The go to guy for each quarterback was Alexis Labonté; he is a real big play threat and he showcased that in this game. He finished with six catches for 90 yards and he topped that off with a touchdown reception. On the defensive side of the ball he did not have much on the stat sheet but he is the guy his defense turns to when they need advice. When a teammate of his feels like they made a mistake he ensures them that they are alright and he gives them tips as to how to tie up these loose ends. In this game he was more of a defensive mentor who made sure his team knew that they can count on him to help them work on their game.

One of the players who felt like they let down the team was Kathleen Tran but Alexis told her not to worry and he helped her position herself better and that led to her coming down with an interception. The only one thrown by the opposing quarterback after that she was in great position gathered two tackles. She started to get the quarterback to feel uneasy and change his mind about certain throws and she was no longer targeted during the game. She played well and she bounced back from what really was not that big of a deal but she felt like she let down the team and that is what I like to call team spirit. Great adjustment Kathleen and do not worry keep playing your game and results will come.

A truly terrific game all around from Michael Scott’s Tots from the Quarterback play, to the receivers making plays, and to the defense making key stops; well done. Evan Ely Nolet was lights out throughout the game except for that one turnover but that did not affect the game in any way. If anything that turnover just got him mad at himself and made him perform almost perfectly the rest of the game. He finished the game with six touchdown passes and just under 160 yards. Those numbers were more than enough to secure the win for his team. Great performance and I am wondering if there will be any more. Evan has the potential to continue having these type of games.

The Michael Scott of this team Zackary Alberts-Gill had himself quite the game on the receiving end of the ball and he made sure that Football Zack came out to play. He had five catches for over 100 yards and those yards did not fall on his lap. He made the catches and he ran after his catches for most of his yardage. Three of his five catches were for touchdowns and for a guy to have a three touchdown reception game it just proves that he was on his game and had a nose for the endzone. He wanted to get those points anyway he could and he made sure he never looked back. On the defensive end of the ball Zackary was a real pest when it came to the Quarterback as Zack made it difficult for the quarterback to throw a perfect pass. He was always in the face of the quarterback and the biggest reason for the turnovers thrown.

The star on defense was not Zackary but instead it was Kenny Boutilier who could not help but make a huge impact on almost every opposing offensive drive. The game he had was definitely one of the greatest defensive performances I have ever seen. He had four tackles, and every time the ball was thrown in his direction he was on a mission to make sure the ball never got to the receiver he was covering. He had three pass defenses which were so important it could have prevented 12 points at least. Not to mention the 2 interceptions he had one of which he turned into a touchdown of his own. A truly remarkable performance by Kenny Boutilier and he was definitely a thorn in the side of the opposing quarterback

Considering this was a short week that is all from me this week. Thankfully there is going to be a very impressive co-ed week coming up and I will be there at every game in person to get a more in depth recap for you readers next week. Very good matchups coming up which leaves me with many questions I am going to want answers to.

Such as… Will Served with Girls take their momentum from their upset victory this week and make it tough for a very dangerous Power Rangers team to come up with a win? How will TC respond to their upset loss against the top team of the division Big TDs? Will the flamingos who found their offense a couple weeks ago come away with that first win on the season against a hungry It’s a Match? Will Michael Scott’s Tots push their win streak to 3 games against a fresh Straight Off the Couch team?

All these questions shall be answered in next week’s article. Until then I am done; if you guys have any comments, complaints, criticism, I can always be reached via email ([email protected]) or twitter (@FPF_Stefb) or in person at the field.
