Co-Ed Week 4 Recap: When in Doubt Air It Out…to Your D1 Stars
I wondered to myself earlier in the season, when taking a quick look at team rosters, just how in the world the likes of Pat Jérome and J-D Chevalier wouldn’t absolutely take over this division. I mean, after all, these are two top division talents. They have the size, speed, and hands that make them a matchup nightmare for other top division players in the league, let alone all the FPF rookies over in Co-Ed.
Three weeks in, and I have to say I was mildly impressed by the fact it wasn’t completely the Jérome/Chevalier show… That is, until this past Saturday. I swear it was like using a Madden cheat code with these two. Allow me to explain:

Party’s Over
I’m sure Party Mix were feeling pretty confident coming off their massive 52-6 win the week before. But what they were up against on Saturday was a well-oiled machine in Confirmed Positive. The party was over pretty quickly that night.
A mix of drops and poor throws saw Party Mix struggle early and often to move the ball on the stout CP defense. Outside of Laurence Lamy and Audrey Le Templier’s combined 13 catches for 84 yards and a score, there just weren’t many big plays to be found from the Party Mix receiving corps. They managed just one TD per half as they were hampered by three turnovers from Deslauriers.
On the other side, it was smooth sailing for QB Vanessa Birri… which helps when you have the downfield threat that is Pat Jérome. Just throw it up and let him do the rest, which he did to the tune of 4 catches for 61 yards and a TD. Between him and Sabrina Gervais (3 catches for 34 yards and 2 TDs), Party Mix simply didn’t have the means to contain the CP offense downfield.
It also really helps when your QB is on the money all night long. Two incompletions in an entire game? Heck, when I used to QB I would start with two incompletions…on my first two attempts. Good times.
Cheat Code: J-D Chevalier. Unlocked.
I really have to give it to Flamboyant Dragons. This group was basically non-existent in the first two weeks of the season, and then this past week they went out and gave it their all versus Served With Girls.
And that’s what makes this loss the toughest of the three to accept in my book.
This game started as one might expect: a quick two-play TD drive from SWG followed up by four straight incomplete passes by FB QB Guillaume Fontaine… followed by another quick TD drive from SWG. And next thing you know it’s 13-0.
All signs were pointing to an incoming blowout when it was 19-7 SWG at the half. But that’s when things got interesting. 19-7 turned to 19-13 on a nice 30-yard shake-and-bake catch-and-run by wideout Laurence Gagnon. But then Karl Lavallée was like “alright, time to put this game to bed”: J-D Chevalier on a 40-bomb made it 26-13. Did FB give up? Nope. They answered right back with another sweet TD from Gagnon, this time coming on an arcing pass from midfield into the endzone. 26-20 now.
You could feel all the momentum shifting in FB’s way. You just knew they were winning this game. All they needed was one more stop, and the game was thei – oh. And there’s another 40-bomb to J-D Chevalier to put the game out of reach. 33-20 the final.
J-D finished with 4 catches for 94 yards and 3 TDs. I know I can’t cover him deep even if I was starting 15-yards back. I can’t really blame the FB defense for not being able to do so either. Can you?
Power Rankings
- Confirmed Positive (3-0): Is it too early to predict a 10-0 finish from them?
- Served With Girls (2-1): The ability to put up six whenever you want makes life pretty easy.
- It’s a Match (2-1): On a bye this week, but my reservations about going with François Éthier over Alexis Labonté at QB remain.
- Flamboyant Dragons (0-3): Laurence Gagnon. You with your 3 catches for 70 yards and 3 TDs. Where have you been this whole season?! I swear this one girl’s presence alone may have led to some way more competitive games for FB in Weeks 1 and 2.
- Party Mix (1-3): They do have that one win… but this week, they were the least impressive group of the bunch. This team has a division leader in touchdowns in Camille Fortier-Martineau (tied for 1st with Pat Jérome with 5 TDs), and they might have the best route-running snapper in Audrey Le Templier. Step it up, Frank!
