Championship Saturday: Division 4B Finals Preview
The dust has settled, the smoke has cleared, and the two teams that are left to fight for the Division 4B title, are Blue Chips, and Past Our Prime.
Blue Chips, got to this point, by beating the Sphinx (38-25) in the Quarter-Finals, last Saturday at Loyola, and with an impressive (45-12) blowout win over All Hooks, in the Semi-Finals, Tuesday night at Stade Hébert.
Past Our Prime, reached the Finals, by knocking off Martine et le Flag, (28-19) in the Quarter-Finals, and by edging out the A-Squad (27-25), in a thrilling Semi-Final contest, Tuesday evening in St. Leonard.
One key fact in this matchup, is that both teams know how to score, and they use their offense to bury opponents.
For Blue Chips, 7 out of their 8 regular season wins, including their Week 4 (38-19) victory over Past Our Prime, were by three touchdowns or more.
The Past Our Prime offense, was also impressive, as 6 out of their 8 victories, were via blowout fashion as well.
This Finals matchup, is really intriguing, as it is the classic case of a young gun team, versus a veteran squad. One team full of championship experience, taking on a squad with many players who are looking for their first. It also features flash and speed, against knowledge and execution.
(3) Past Our Prime versus (1) Blue Chips
Previous Meeting: Blue Chips 38-19 (Week 4)
In their regular season meeting, Blue Chips, got a phenomenal game out of Quarterback Jordan Mitchell, who was a one man wrecking crew, as he connected on 14 out of 17 passes, for 168 yards and 6 touchdowns, to go along with 5 carries for 64 yards, and a rushing TD.
On the other side, Past Our Prime Quarterback Craig O’Brien, finished the game, with a stat-line of 17 for 36, for 237 yards, with 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
Leading the way in receiving for Blue Chips, was Kenneth Mitchell, who caught 5 passes for 60 yards, and 2 touchdowns.
For Past Our Prime, Angelo Kalaidopoulos, led the offense charge, with a game-high 8 receptions and 64 yards, and a touchdown of his own.
In tonight’s rematch the showdown of Past Our Prime receivers Angelo Kalaidopoulos, and Ryan Payne, versus Marcus Mitchell, and Sanders Armand, will go a long way to determining who will walk away as champs.
As mentioned above, Kalaidopoulos, had a solid game. Payne however, was virtually non-existent, as he recorded only 1 catch for 6 yards.
On the other side, the Blue Chips receiving duo of Armand, and Marcus Mitchell, was relatively quiet as well, as they both were held to 2 catches each, but they resulted in 3 touchdowns, which proved to be the difference in the game.
Naturally, the biggest battle that will decide the game, will be between Quarterbacks Jordan Mitchell and Craig O’Brien.
If you’re looking for an NFL comparison, you could equate it to Russell Wilson versus Tom Wilson. Mitchell, can kill you with both his arm, and his legs.
Mitchell, who averaged 13 yards a carry, ran for a Division 4B leading 660 yards, and 9 touchdowns, is at his best, when he is using his legs to extend plays, and buy time for his receivers to get open.
O’Brien, is the classic pocket passer, who if you don’t get enough pressure, and force him to get rid of the ball quickly, will slice up your defense in a heartbeat.
Needless to say, each teams Rusher, in Cullen Burrell of Past Our Prime, and Marcus Mitchell of Blue Chips, will have their hands full.
I think this will be highly entertaining, and more competitive than the first meeting, although I think the speed and athleticism throughout the Blue Chips lineup, will be too much for Past Out Prime to handle once again.
Prediction: Blue Chips (27-25).
That’s it for the Division 4B Finals preview. Good luck to both teams tonight!
