Carmine’s Coffin Corner – Week 6 (sort of)
It only took them 6 weeks but the Pacemakers finally have a team photo. Of 5 guys. Too funny. Can they move to 7-0 this week???
Week 6 recap & a look ahead
Welcome back as we take a peek at the lighter than normal activities in the Veteran Division.
I read that one of the NFL analysts compared the current Jimmy G. & Trey Lance situation with the conundrum that the Niners had with Montana & Young. This might be the stupidest thing that I have ever read. Comparing two HoF talent QBs vs. a “never will be” and a “has yet to be.” Definitely a slow week if this is the subject under discussion.
A couple of quick thoughts from this past Wednesday evening in Baie d’Urfe. Due to the odd scheduling SNAFUs that COVID has handed us, we only had 2 games on the docket.
- The twin towers that are Jeff Rosenblatt and Yoni Lehrer are going to be a tough out in Tier 2.
- Never like to see the refs have an impact but we did have that happen.
- Good sportsmanship from Broady Windsor came back to haunt them.
- Not sure what has happened to Chris Rosen, but Chris Olson has not looked comfortable during his absence.
Random thoughts from around the league:
- Terror Squad with a pair of Ws this week. Tam Vilaydeth continues his great season as he was a combined 30/43-460 & 12 TDs
- Urgence Medic with a tough loss but Jesse Dupuis continues his strong 2-Way play.17/32-194 yards with 4TDs, 3-23 yards on the ground and 3 Tackles on D
- It was nice to see Olivier Bourdages back on the field with his old CLR Forces team mates. Great DB and awesome person
- Gryffindor are now in business with Dan Lazarra at the helm. 20/28 for 249 yards & 6 TDs. This team has some scary talent.
- Braves offence reminding people that other people besides ANP can put up points. 114 points in their last two games. A stupid 10 XPTs during their last game.
- Mr. Wyeth also reminding people that he set the current bar in place. 20/24 for 241 yards and 7 TDs
- Jeff Rosenblatt decided to Bring Dawson Pierre up to play with the Apocalypse and he responded with 3 TDs in their first win of the season.
- What has happened to Sheesh in D3? I think that Dan Lazarra gave them the whammy.
- Last play victory for the Expendables in a fun game with Past Our Prime.
- Hinsley Adams with a huge game for JYD. Sacking Jeremy White 5 times is one hell of an accomplishment
- Blessed move to 8-0 setting up a season ending match up with the Killa Bees, who are on a heck of a roll themselves.
- Sara Parker throwing for 6 TDs for the Golden Eagles in D4B…nice job!
WEEK IN REVIEW
For those of you not familiar with my way of doing the review, I will include what I wrote the week prior and this way everyone can see if I was out to lunch or not.
FPF vs. JMJ (FPF wins 50-27)
What I wrote: We had a bit of a barn burner last week. Both teams were evenly matched with Brad Evans’ PICK 6 being the big difference. So many questions for FPF. Is Yoni now a FT player? If so, he makes a HUGE difference. Will Jeff actually show up or is the “Owie” show? Some roster issues for JMJ as well last week. I do think that FPF, with Jeff & Yoni, are the better squad overall on offence. If they are both there then I go with FPF to win the rematch
What actually happened: As I mentioned earlier, Jeff & Yoni pose a challenge. Rushing Jeff sucks. He stands there forever, holds the ball impossibly high, and waits for the defence to break down. JMJ did themselves no favours early on with a short rush. G.M. came in and did a better job but then the JMJ forgot how to tackle. Yoni should not be making 5 people miss at any level of this game. Left corner and post patterns from right to left were the staple on this evening. Matching short DBs on Yoni and Vince was just a recipe for disaster. For JMJ it was yet another night of frustration for the offence. Chris Olson had Alex Moreau combined for 3 TDs last week. PFP was determined that this would not repeat. It did not. Balls were forced that should not have been. Chris Olson showed his normal mobility but “Energizer Bunny Kousaie” kept him in check for the most part. Things do not get easier for FPF next week with the Pacemakers on the docket.
Pacemakers vs. Broady Windsor (Pacemakers win 38-32)
What I wrote: I almost feel like copy/pasting my preview from last week as nothing that I saw last week has changed my mind. No one on BW can truly contain Jason Rossie in the pocket or stay with Chris Brockwell down the field. Conversely, the Pacemakers have 2 solid rushers, the aforementioned Rossie & Brockwell, who match up well with Eugene McLaren. I f Brian Martin does not catch 10 balls for 5 TDs then this will be another victory for the Pacemakers.
What actually happened: Watching the Pacemakers warm up it was obvious that they would not have enough players to start. Here is where the friendliness that is the Draft Division comes into play as Broady Windsor allowed them to use G.M. Kolethras as a 6th. Oops as G.M. ended up as one of my choices for player of the week. This game really was entertaining to watch as the teams basically went back and forth. Even without Chris Brockwell, Jason Rossie was able to move the ball. As I wrote, no one was able to contain him in any way. A poor decision, picked off by J-F Trudeau was really his only blemish. G.M. made a big difference with 2 TDs and an INT. Eugene McLaren had some great moments and would probably like a couple of throws back. Forcing things on 1st or 2nd down is not the greatest strategy. Brian Martin did have 2 TDs, including beauty going either post or shallow corner and then running away from the DB. Unfortunately he was woefully short of those 10 receptions that I predicted would be necessary. BW were actually driving to tie/win when a bit of chippiness occurred and the zebras got involved. I am an official and am pretty tolerant. I do not recall ever flagging a captain or QB for a comment directed at me that did not involve profanity. From what I have been told, while present I did not hear it live, Eugene made a comment regarding the referees eyesight, the referee replied with “perhaps, but there is nothing wrong with my hearing” and proceeded to flag Eugene McLaren who was now out for 5 plays. Did I mention that there were only 5 plays left? J-F Trudeau tried to pull off the miracle but it was not meant to be.
Players of the Week (according to me & the stats)
Jeff Rosenblatt (FPF) – 19/25 for 253 yards and 8 TDs
Yoni Lehrer (FPF) – 7-130-2 TDs with 7 Tackles on D
Vince Mancini (FPF) – 4-61-3 TDs and 1 XPT.
Jason Rossie (Pacemakers) – 15/22 for 159 yards and 4 TDs.5-41-1 TD rushing. 1 Sack and 2 PDs on defence.
G.M. Kolethras (Pacemakers) – 3-51-2 TDs on offence and 1 INT on D

The Week Ahead
FPF vs. Broady Windsor
Eugene McLaren and the BW offence looked much better this past week than they have in a few games. Unfortunately they are matched up against the 3 Headed-Monster that is Jeff, Yoni, and Vince. Eugene also has to deal with Kousaie at the rush. I basically would force Yoni to decide who to cover all night…Brian or Mario. They are also going to have to decide how to rush Jeff. Giving him all day will result in another 50 Burger being served. FPF for the win
JMJ vs. Pacemakers
As I wrote earlier, things do not get easier this week for Chris Olson. The Pacemakers who have two top level rushers, in Jason Rossie and Chris Brockwell, who are going to keep Chris in check. While Dave Allen is a great human being, you are not going to win many games when he is your leading yardage receiver on 3 receptions. Olson needs to play a more controlled game and not just fling things deep. I do not see Jason having any issues in this game as, again, no one on the JMJ roster should be able to contain him when he decides to simply buy time or take off. Pacemakers for the win.
Monster vs. Montreal Spitfire
The rematch. The first game was decided by the Spitfire rush. If they can provide a repeat performance then we should see a similar result. Andy will have had 2 weeks off so we shall see if that has helped his mobility. Monster was determined to stop Andrew Carruthers in the first game and this opened things up for the right side of the Spitfire offence. Not sure that there will be a repeat this week. As always, Spitfire for the W.
Old Age Outlaws vs. Shenanigans
I am starting become a Brian Tock fan. Very unorthodox style, but give him points for effectiveness. The last game was a barn burner. Does Louie Larouche have another game like that in him? I still think that Shane Williams needs to be bigger part of the offence. For OAO it will come down to their rush. Can they contain Tock? It was not a success during the last game. Harripersaud can slow a game down like no one else. This will be the key in this one. Still think that the Shenanigans have too much talent.
Montreal Spitfire vs Old Age Outlaws
The first meeting was close as the OAO came up with two big red zone INTs. I would say that I have learned from that but I did the same fu##ing thing in the previous game against Monster. 3rd time lucky? The Spitfire have been playing good team football this season due to their consistent roster. As usual not too many thoughts on my own game but Spitfire for the win.
Shenanigans vs. Monster
The Shenanigans have two really good rushers, Darren Costello & Danny Hilton, but have not been using them recently. Somewhat odd, as they give them their best opportunity to contain Andy Peterkin from Monster. The Monster offence needs to diversify. Yes, Paul Lapierre is a “monster” target, sorry but I could not resist, but the Shenanigans have some large bodies who can neutralize that. Hello Shane Williams. If Brian Tock does not get contained by the rush from Monster then I can see the Shenanigans winning this one, but it will be very close.
That’s all for today! Thanks for taking the time to read along.
