Brent’s take on the Division 6 Awards

With the regular season now officially in the rear-view mirror and the playoffs set to begin tonight, what better time than now to pick my end of the year regular season awards.

Due to the fact that I don’t have selective memory, I will also list the midseason award winners for each respective category.

To change things up a little bit, as well as due to an issue that came up in the staff voting for these categories – basically some members of the staff felt that a player who plays in a significantly higher division shouldn’t be voted top player. – I picked two sets of categories for certain awards. Category Number 1 will go to players who only play D6, or have limited FlagPlus Football experience.

Category Number 2 as you might have guessed, will go to FPF players who either have a lot of experience, or play for teams in much higher division. I am looking at you Jonathan Grizzley and Danny D’Amour.

Just for the record, while I can see the point of view of some people who think that a player who plays in a higher division shouldn’t be ranked with players who don’t, at the end of the day no matter where you play, you still have to be able to throw, get open, catch, make a play, and tackle. Add that that on to the fact that Division 6 is filled with a lot of first year players who are more than capable of playing on teams in much high divisions.

Without further ado:

Quarterback of the Year

  1. Daniel Goloff – The Mean Machine
  2. Ross Olshansky – Flagrant Fouls
  3. Brad Evans – Pardon My Swag
  4. Justin Lerner – The Sun Bros
  5. Jordan Mcinnis – Obamacare
  6. Jordan Bellemare – Wax On Wax Off

Mid-Season Award Winner: Daniel Goloff

Regualr Season Award Winner: Ross Olshansky 50 TDs / 9 INTs / 14.4 YPP / 104.8 QB Rating

Although all of the names on this list have all had a fantastic year and put up impressive numbers, there was never any doubt on who would get this award. Olshansky leads all of D6 with 50 touchdown passes, and he was tied for 2nd in the most rushing TDs by a QB with 3.

All stats aside, Olshansky is the engineer behind the division’s best offense. From his penchant for making plays and keeping them alive with his legs, to his ability to get all of his receivers involved and make defenses have to pick their poison, Olshansky is without question the standard For D6.

Receiver of the Year (Category Number 1)

  1. Andrew Grant- L.A’ Finest
  2. Andrew Hopkins – Obamacare
  3. Marc Belhomme Jr. – Balls Deep
  4. Daron Migdesyan – The Sun Bros
  5. Kyle McGuigan – Obamacare
  6. Emmanuel Sarikakis – The Sun Bros

Regular Season Award Winner: Andrew Grant 35 catches / 600 yards / 12 TDs / 17.1 YPC

This one was really close, as any of these choices could have walked away with the award. I’m going with the talkative L.A.F receiver because not only does he have the edge in yardage and yards per catch, but his ability to go from 0 to 60 so quickly with his speed, is just something that you can’t coach. He is a constant treat to take a 5 yard hook route to the house on any play.

Receiver of the Year (Category Number 2)

  1. Danny D’Amour – Wax On Wax Off
  2. Jonathan Grizzley – Pardon My Swag
  3. Yacoub Telemaque – Woofpack
  4. Jad Aridi – Smokin’ Axolotls
  5. Marty Freedman – Flagrant Fouls

Mid-Season Winner: Danny D’Amour

Regular Season Award Winner: Danny D’Amour

His has more yards and touchdowns and a better yard per catch than anybody else on this list. What makes those feats even more impressive, is that he did it with less catches than everybody else.

Defense Player of the Year (Category Number 1)

  1. Jordan Allard – Balls Deep
  2. Maxime Turpin-Lalonde – Beast Mode
  3. Rohan Mayers – Balls Deep
  4. Billy Makris – L.A’s Finest
  5. Daniel Goloff – The Mean Machine
  6. Jesse Castiel – Flagrant Fouls

Mid-Season Award Winner: N/A

Regular Season Award Winner: Jordan Allard

While the Balls Deep rookie has less interceptions than Turpin-Lalonde, the former has more trips to the house than the latter. As I explained earlier this season, a pick doesn’t get you automatic points, a pick-6 however does.

Defensive Player of the Year (Category Number 2)

  1. Jonathan Grizzley – Pardon My Swag
  2. Jad Aridi – Smokin Axolotls
  3. Marty Freedman – Flagrant Fouls
  4. Yacoub Telemaque – Woofpack
  5. Theo Bekelis – L.A’s Finest
  6. Danny D’Amour – Wax On Wax Off

Mid-Season Award Winner: Danny D’Amour

Regular Season Award Winner: Jonathan Grizzley

At the end of it, this category came down to Grizzley vs D’Amour. While Dangerous Danny D’Amor got my mid-season vote, Grizzley gets the nod here curtesy of registering an interception in 6 out of his last 7 games.

Rusher of the Year

  1. Simon Laporte – Jean Guy
  2. Kevin Gauthier – Smokin’ Axolotls
  3. Mathew Barsetti – Obamacare
  4. Alex Evangelidis – Flagrant Fouls
  5. Alex Torres – Pardon My Swag
  6. Stuart Fink – The Pocketwatch

Mid-Season Award Winner: Simon Laporte

Regular Season Award Winner: Simon Laporte

I’ll make this short and sweet. Laporte won the mid-season award due to the fact that he had notched 14 sacks. At the end of the regular season, he came within one QB take down shy of doubling that total. Just in case…he picked up 27 sacks.

Two-Way Player of the Year (Category Number 1)

  1. Billy Makris – L.A’s Finest
  2. Jordan Allard – Balls Deep
  3. Jordan Mcinnis – Obamacare
  4. Daniel Goloff – The Mean Machine
  5. Maxime Turpin-Lalonde – Beast Mode
  6. Stephane Tirelli – N.W.O

Mid-Season Award Winner: N/A

Regular Season Two-Way Player of the Year: Daniel Goloff

This category was extremely hard to choose a winner from, as everybody put up great numbers. I am going with Goloff because he was the only player to lead his team in touchdown passes, runs, and interceptions.

Mid-Season Two-Way Player of the Year (Category Number 2)

  1. Danny D’Amour – Wax On Wax Off
  2. Jonathan Grizzley – Pardon My Swag
  3. Jad Aridi – Smokin’ Axolotls
  4. Theo Bekelis – L.A ‘S Finest
  5. Marty Freedman – Flagrant Fouls
  6. Yacoub Telemaque – Woofpack

Mid-Season Award Winner: Danny D’Amour

Regular Season Two-Way Player of the Year Award Winner: Danny D’Amour.

Dangerous Danny D’Amour gets the decision here due to his offensive stats. Yes Grizzley has one more interception and trip to the house than D’Amour, but the Wax On Wax Off WR/DB has more TDs and a better yard per catch average, and almost 100 more yards on less catches.

That’s it for this week. I hope you guys liked my end of the season awards article. I will be back next week to recap tonight’s Divisional Round games, and preview next week’s Quarter Final matchups.
