Brent’s 2nd annual Division 6 Awards
With Division 6 on a bye-week of sorts, instead of giving you guys my re-cap of last week’s games and preview of the second round of the playoffs, and that have it sit there with no fresh reading material for the next 7-8 days, I figured what better opportunity then to release my 2nd annual Regular Season All-Star Article.
The rules are the same as last time. I will pick 5-7 players for each category, and I will give you a brief explanation for my choice. Just to be clear, just because a player was nominated, or won the Mid-Season All-Star for their respective position, does not mean that they will earn the selection this time around. Futhermore, just like the professional ranks, I will ignore what is going on in the playoffs, as these awards are predominantly based on individual success, and not that of the team.
Please note that these are not the FPF Individual Awards, and that my selections do not rule out higher division players like the FPF awardsa do.
Before we get started, yes, the Brandon Weeden Award (given to the Quarterback that throws the best deep ball spiral) will be included as well!
Without further ado, here is my Regular Season Awards Article
Quarterback of the Year
Joseph Kano – (PB n’ Jelly)
David Deandrade – (Tip Top Shape)
Daniel Richman – (Gamecocks)
Brad Evans – (TDs and Beer)
Michael Sanchez – (N.W.O)
Francois Martin – (Diablos)
James D’Andrea – (Spartans)
Winner: Joseph Kano (PB n’ Jelly) – He had the most touchdown passes (45), and had the second best QB Rating and completion percentage. He also helped lead his team to a perfect season.
Wide Receiver of the Year
Charles-David Martel (Spartans) 18 Catches 466 yards 12 TDs
Dylan Catellier (PB n’ Jelly) – 46 catches 558 yards 15 TDs
Alexis Bessette (Spartans) 26 catches 602 yards 13 TDs
Georges Élie-Voyer (Diablos) 37 Catches 714 yards 15 TDs
Mickey Marini (Sabrfc) – 44 catches 727 yards 16 TDs
Vincent Alessandrini (Nighthawks) – 28 catches 428 yards 13 TDs
Kyle Tanzer (Gamecocks) – 45 catches 615 yards 18 TDs
Winner: Georges Élie-Voyer (Diablos) Yes, Marini has 1 more touchdown and 13 more yards, but I going with G.V.E due to the fact that he always seems to come up with a big play when his team really needs it. His ability to steal the momentum from his opponents with his timely catches shouldn’t be ignored.
Two-Way Player of the Year
David Deandrade (Tip Top Shape)
Vincent Alessandrini (Nighthawks)
Georges Élie-Voyer (Diablos)
Giovanni Bavota (Victorious Secret)
Kyle Tanzer (Gamecocks)
Charles-David Martel (Spartans)
Myles Keiller (TDs and Beer)
Winner: Charles-David Martel (Spartans) – This one came down to Kellier and Martel. I am going with the Spartan for two reasons. First, Keiller who has been playing in FPF since 2011, played with a better QB this season in veteran passer Brad Evans. If Martel had played with a more accurate pivot, there’s no telling what kind of offensive numbers he would’ve put up.
Secondly, while Keiller’s 5 interceptions are definitely valuable, Martel’s 17 sacks and 7 pass knockdowns (5 more than Keiller) are more important.
Defensive Player of the Year
Vincent Alessandrini (Nighthawks)
Simon Beliveau (Trojans)
Matt Brock (Gamecocks)
Daniel Hernandez (Spartans)
Charles-David Martel (Spartans)
Giovanni Bavota (Victorious Secret)
Domenic Benevento (N.W.O)
Winner: Giovanni Bavota (Victorious Secret) – I am going with Bavota here, not only because he leads all of D6 with 9 interceptions, including an impressive 4-game INT streak earlier this year. He also plays on a team in Victorious Secret that is to put it kindly – offensively challenged, meaning that he doesn’t get much time to rest when his offense is on the field.
Rusher of the Year
Joseph Crivello (Bricksquad)
Jaime Steinmetz (Gamecocks)
Charles-David Martel (Spartans)
Simon Laporte (Jean Guy)
Fernando Massa (Victorious Secret)
Michael Boss (Sabrfc)
Benoit Millette (Diablos)
Winner: Charles-David Martel (Spartans) – Even though Steinmetz has 1 more sack, I am going with Martel due to the fact that the latter has 7 pass defended, while the former has none. Getting sacks as a rusher is sort of like the icing on the cake. Being able to bat down passes, and force QBs to make early and/or bad throws is part o the job description. On a separate note, the torch has officially been passed on from Jean Guy’s Simon Laporte. Time will tell if it’s only for this year, or if the move is permanent.
Brandon Weeden Award
Michael Sanchez (N.W.O)
Daniel Richman (Gamecocks)
Francois Martin (Diablos)
Winner: Francois Martin (Diablos) – As Georges Élie-Voyer can attest to, Martin still puts the best arch and spin on the ball in the entire division. He makes it look effortlessly.
Regular Season Team of the Year
Tip Top Shape
PB n’ Jelly
Gamecocks
N.W.O
Winner: PB n’ Jelly – Who else did you think I was going to go with here?
That’s it for this week. I will be back next week with my Quarter-Finals preview, and give you guys a quick re-cap of the Divisional Round. The action starts next Sunday at Loyola in the Stinger Dome at 8PM. Good luck to 8 teams remaining, or as I like to call it, the Elite 8.
