Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div A) – Week 2
Bombsquad’s Breakdown Week 2 Division A
Well we’re into week two and already we have only one winless team, but at least they managed a tie. This is definitely looking like a season of parity my friends. Shall we take a seat and reflect on the happenings of the past week? I think so.
Countdown to Detonation
3. The Kingz end up in a tie against the One Night Stands in a surprising offensive showdown 40-40. The Kingz had a two-TD lead at one point and it just slipped away from them as they left the door open for the opportunistic O.N.S. Once again the brothers seemed unstoppable for the Kingz as Francois Lebeau threw for 300 yards with 6 TD’s and hit brother Marc-Andre 9 times for 110 yards and 3 scores. Despite the huge offensive output, Craig O’Brien only needed to throw for 208 yards to get his 6TD’s and match the Kingz. The addition of Hainsley Adams has been a welcome sight for O.N.S. so far this season; he and Jeff Millar combined for 4 TD’s. This just may be the kick start O.N.S. needed to get in gear. As for the Kingz, only time will tell if O.N.S. really stepped up their game or if the Kingz had a letdown game after the emotional win over DA Finest.
2. DA Finest take down the Rainmakers 34-25. The Rainmakers were without Shane Williams and Addley Dufour, that said, the defence of DA Finest was much better than the previous week’s. Not to mention the fact that a UR on FlagPlus’ own Moe Khan seemed to really fired him up for the rest of the game as he had 2 sacks and 3 batted balls. Ryan Kastner spread the ball around to his usual cast of characters as Michael Chitayat carried the brunt of the load with 5 receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown along with Bobby Mikelberg, catching 2 TDs, being the big target he always is. On this day, Kevin Wyeth was not to be denied throwing for 4 TD’s and even rushing for 1. Tony Tabet was out with DA Finest on this week and lit it up with 5 catches for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns. I’m sure the Rainmakers were upset not having two of their very strong weapons at their disposal, but DA Finest played a great game. Let’s see what a rematch in week 9 will produce.
1. The Mercenaries pounce all over the Triple Sixers and the season debut of Karim Chaoual, beating them 52-21. Carmine Pollice must have been really ticked off about that season opening loss because on this day he was nearly perfect. 23-28 for 312 yards and 8 TD’s. Jacques Void did the dirty work racking up 119 yards with a TD as the duo of Stephane Chartrand and Paul Lapierre pulled in the rest of the scoring with 7 TDs combined. Karim Chaoual must have been a little rusty, but he was also up against a very strong Mercs defence. He is still using JF Marcotte as his favourite weapon, but they just couldn’t get any flow and consistentcy on this day. I have no concerns about this Triple Sixer team. I know they will pull it together and make a run. As for the Mercenaries, well this team seems to be out to prove that the week one loss was a fluke.
BOOM goes the Dynamite…..wait….wrong division. My bad.
Well I am sure it is no surprise that this week’s Golden Boy is Carmine Pollice in his roasting performance over the Triple Sixers. His 8 TD passes and no turnovers gives him the title belt this week.
In a huge surprise and words I never believed I would write: This week’s SHOWSTOPPA has to be DA Finest and WEPL’s own Moe Khan with his 2 sacks and 3 knocked down balls. After that UR penalty Moe Khan was a man on a mission and he definitely made a statement. Good job.
So now we must look to the future and see the interesting matchups it will bring to us. Let’s make some picks!
Thursday night the Rainmakers will take on the One Night Stands. The One Nighters made great strides last week to bring their game up and get that first win. Unfortunately this week they come up against a very strong and I’m sure pissed off Rainmakers team. If the whole squad is present, I’m not sure O.N.S. can match up on defence, but they can always prove me wrong. I have to take the Rainmakers here.
In a game you should all want to see, DA Finest take on the surging Mercenaries. Both teams are loaded and looked better in week two. As I am taking part in this game I will not pick. I will say that the offenses of both teams are very hard to stop so this should be a very high scoring game. Come out to Lachine at 9pm this Sunday to watch the fireworks.
Finally the Kingz take on the Triple Sixers. I think this game is a very good matchup. I think the Triple Sixers have the right defence to frustrate the Kingz. This game has all the makings of a great rivalry to be developed over the season. I look forward to it. Although I believe that the Kingz and their consistent roster will win on this day in a very close match.
The picks are in,
As we head to week 3,
Some great games to watch,
So come out and see,
Pollice and Wyeth,
Go head to head,
Grab your popcorn,
Enough has been said.
