Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div A & B) – Week 9

As we reach the final chapter of another great FPF regular season, we see how things are unfolding. It has been a great year of football and one many can be proud off. As week 9 is now behind us, let us look back and break down the action. To the games!!!

Countdown to detonation.

5. DA Finest take down the Rainmakers for the second time this season 48-37. Just another in a long lineup of great matches between these two squads. Ryan Kastner protected the ball and played well, tossing 6 TD passes. Tim Kraemer (who I forgot to put on my top 25, sorry Tim) was the main weapon with 2 scores but Kastner spread the ball as usual. On the other side, Kevin Wyeth had another big 7 TD performance as well as only throwing two incompletions. Rochdi Benabdelkader was a scoring machine with 3 TD’s and even a sack on defence! Season is almost done, but at least the games are still epic.

4. The Doosters & Ronkeys defeat Daron World Wide 46-37. Danny Gentile had a big game with 7 TD’s and 1 interception. Both Antonio Lanni and Marco “Sleeves” Masciotra scored twice each and Lanni had a pick as well. Alex Lever had a decent game as well with 5 TD passes and an interception. He distributed the scores amongst the entire team with his workhorse being Anthony Comeau. R&D are looking to be finals bound, but can Gentile handle the playoff pressure?

3. The Alkaholiks win by forfeit over the Jonesers. All I can do is shake my head and ask if anyone read my article last week. Forfeits are UNACCEPTABLE!!! (Search YouTube for Lemongrab UNACCEPTABLE!)

2. The Mercenaries take down the Maniax and cool off their hot streak 39-32. Sean Kennedy was Di Fazio’s main scoring threat with 3 scores and Carmine Pollice carried the load with 7 grabs and 73 yards. Rapha Beladjat threw 5 TD’s and 3 INT’s. If he can limit the turnovers, they would win this game. JR Verger was unstoppable as usual with 3 scores. These teams face off once again this week. I think the result will be different but I have been wrong before…..many times.

1. AAA beats the Triple Sixers 33-18. Karim Chaoual was there….but on the sidelines. Instead Alex Campeau was behind centre and he was solid in his first FPF start. He also had Paul Lapierre in the game to use as well which helped on at least 1 occasion. But he still only managed 3 TD’s with 2 INT’s. Francois Lebeau had an efficient game. 5 scores with a single INT. Brother Marc Lebeau is back on the scoring track with 3 TD’s and 95 yards and 9 receptions. This team also looks primed for a long playoff run. As for the Sixers… not quite. That said, they can get into the big dance with a win this week.

B……B…….B…..NOPE! No Boom because this final week will see a team make the playoffs with a single win in the very last week only because they are playing against another team who does not have a win.

Time to check out the week’s top performers in each Division.

Div A

The Golden Boy this week has to be Kevin Wyeth (again). He had another 7 TD game with no interceptions, 226 yards passing and only 2 passes falling incomplete. Did anyone else notice he is sitting at 59 TD’s for the season with a game remaining?

The SHOWSTOPPA this week is a tough choice for Div A since there was little defensive stats so I will give it to Rochdi Benabdelkader for recording his 4th career sack!!! Good job, HAIR!!!!

Div B

The Golden Boy this week is Marc-Andre Lebeau with his 3 TD’s, 95 yards on 9 grabs. Great game.

The SHOWSTOPPA for Div B is Charles Baillargeon with his 3 sacks against the Triple Sixers. This player does not get enough recognition. Great game.

Now for our final, regular season, weekly preview:

DA Finest take on the Alkaholiks in a preview of the Div A finals for this season. Once again, both teams are stacked but I believe both squads will have players missing either on vacay, injured or whatever. Regardless, there will be scoring and most likely a lot of it. Good game to check out.

The Rainmakers take on AAA. Lucky for AAA, this game cannot move them lower in the standings if they lose. They also can’t move up because of the head-to-head record against R & D. So it is all academic. And I know the Rainmakers hold no interest in leaving on a losing note as their season is done after this. So I expect the Rainmakers to win this game. But it will be close.

In the Battle of the Basement and for the last playoff spot, the Jonesers face the Triple Sixers. Now, will either team be able to field a squad? And if so who wins? A tie would be hilarious but I would rather not see a team in the playoffs without a win. I think both teams will show up (both literally and figuratively) and I believe the Jonesers will step up and secure their first and possibly only win of the. Regardless of their records, both teams have a lot of talent and any game with this much on the line should be compelling.

The Maniax face the Mercenaries in round 2! Round 1 had Rapha a little shaky as he threw 3 INT’s but his team only lost by a score. Gino Di Fazio got the job done. But I think the tables will turn this week and we shall see the Maniax lower their turnovers and squeeze out a win.

Finally, Daron World Wide takes on the Roosters & Donkeys…..still the dumbest name in both Div’s but you can’t argue with the results; they sit in first place by themselves. DWW has had a good season as well. I think this will be a very good game. But I like R & D’s chances a little more that DWW’s. So I will go with them to close out the season in first.

As said by Jim Morrison,

This is the end.

Our season laid to rest,

Sadly, my solemn friend.

But just around the corner,

The excitement of playoffs awaits.

As well as the road show with Moe Khan,

Hipsters line up at the gates!!!

That is it for this week’s breakdown. You can email me at [email protected] or tweet me @DonaldWShepherd on Twitter with your thoughts on Moe Khan’s skyscraper looking haircut and your café of choice. (Aren’t you glad you don’t have to watch him each week on the WEPL anymore? He definitely has the face for radio.) Until then, another week has been defused.
