Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div A & B) – Week 7

Welcome back for another exciting installment of Bombsquad’s Breakdown as the season draws to a close and we are finally getting down to the nitty gritty!! In DA, the Rainmakers are barely on life support as we near the end. The Alkaholiks have booked their ticket to the finals where they wish to prove this is their season.

In Div B, AAA and R&D are battling for top spot while the rest continue to cannibalize themselves. It truly is a very interesting season. So let’s see how it all went down last week.

Countdown to detonation.

5. The Alkaholiks defeat the Rainmakers 27-18, adding another nail to their season’s proverbial coffin. Paul Lapierre had a very rough outing throwing for only 68 yards on 12 completions. So the receiving core does not have the stats to mention. But the defense was HUGE!! They had two pick-sixes by defenders Jamil Springer and Shane Williams, while rusher Dave Cesari had 3 sacks. The Alks defense was everywhere. Ryan Kastner surely wishes he could have a few of those passes back. Although he did toss 3 TD’s and hit Bobby Mikelberg for six grabs and a score, it wasn’t enough after the very costly turnovers.

4. The Triple Sixers forfeit to the Maniax. Not much else to say.

3. DA Finest take down the Roosters and Donkeys 46-37. Danny “Scoop” Gentile had a good game. 5 TD’s and 214 yards with 2 TD’s catches each for James Crowe and Marco “Sleeves”  Masciotra. Sleeves even had a pick. But on the other side, Kevin Wyeth threw 7 TD’s and Pat Jerome had over 100 yards receiving. Wyeth spread the ball across the entire lineup- although some more than others. R&D put up a great fight and I am sure they are proud of the game they played. DA Finest are one win away from another finals appearance.

2. The Jonesers continue to come very close to victory but fall short again as they fall to AAA 19-20. Eric Rapps grabbed the helm once again and continues to improve by leaps and bounds, hitting Dave Chitayat for 1 of his 3 TD passes. For AAA, Benny Goodfriend came out of obscurity to toss the ball. Goodfriend was a little rusty with 2 INT’s but he got the 3 TD passes and more importantly the converts to win the game. Tam Vilaydeth seemed to be his favorite target as he had 7 grabs for 61 yards and a TD. Marc Lebeau must miss his bro as he only had 1 catch. Jonesers are getting closer.

1.  Daron World Wide chops down the Mercenaries 40-19. Alex Lever decided to show the league who Jordan McLaren is with his 3 TD performance on offense, he also added an interception on defense. Lever tossed 5 TD’s en route to the win. On the other side, things just weren’t clicking for Di Fazio and company as he had 3 TD passes and 1 interception. Jon Lyristis and Carmine Pollice were the sole shining stars as they did all the scoring and the bulk of the catching as well. Should make for an interesting playoff run.

BOOM!!! That is all. Just boom. But thanks for checking.

Individual awards? Not this week….. just kidding.

DA

My Golden Boy this week is Pat Jerome who came off a busy weekend and walked into Lachine and still dominated with 105 yards receiving and a TD.

My SHOWSTOPPA this week is the tandem of Shane Williams and Jamil Springer who both had pick-sixes, which were pivotal in the Alkaholiks win over the Rainmakers! Unreal performance boys.

DB

My Golden Boy for the week is Jordan McLaren and his big 3 TD performance. Great game!!

My SHOWSTOPPA for Div B is Ryan Aridi and his 3 sacks for AAA which ended up being pretty important. Great game Ryan.

Well, the playoffs are close. So here is your update.

Div A is simple. If DA Finest win one more game this season they are off to the finals to face the Alkaholiks and the drunk r thingy. If the Rainmakers lose one game, they are out. Their only chance lies in the fact that DA Finest play only DA opponents for the last 3 games.

In Div B we have a battle for top spot between Roosters & Donkeys and AAA. R&D hold the tie breaker via their 1 point victory over AAA in week 2. The Maniax and DWW are tied in 3rd and 4th with the Mercs nipping at their heels. The last playoff spot may come down to week 10 as neither team has a win and they face each other on that week. I guess it makes for an interesting game but it is still a little sad that a 1 win team may make the playoffs.

The question is, which teams can upset R&D or AAA? Will that be the finals? How will it all play out? Can you feel the tension?

Let us preview this week’s games.

Unfortunately, due to Holidays I did not get my article out in time to predict the outcomes of the 2 Wednesday games but they were epic games which you shall read about next week. What receiver caught for 200+ yards and 5 TD’s? How did the teams fair and the playoff outlook change?

Here are the games I can discuss.

In one of the matchups we have been waiting for all year, the Alkaholiks face DA Finest. With so many epic battles already behind them, I can almost assure you another great game. Both teams have too much talent for this not to be a good game. The Alks have pieced together a team with talent that we have not seen very often in this league. A basic who’s who of FPF. Both sides of the ball are stacked! DA Finest have been at this for a while, but all good things must come to an end. Could this be the season? As for this game, check it out for I shall never predict the outcome of a game in which I play.

AAA face the Maniax who have had an unexpected bye week thanks to the Triple Sixers forfeit. As for AAA, where is Francois Lebeau? The QB who has consistently led his team to finals, has been away on vacation recently. The Maniax surely are happy about that. When will he return? Meanwhile the Maniax are riding a high after the huge upset they pulled out. I have no idea who will be throwing for AAA so I will say this. If Francois Lebeau is back, I believe AAA will win this game. He has great chemistry with his receivers. If he is not there, I am taking the Maniax for another upset.

The Triple Sixers are supposed to face Daron World Wide this upcoming Sunday. Will they have enough to field a team? That is a question on most people’s minds. On my mind is another question completely. Will it make a difference if they do field a team? The answer is likely, no. DWW is playing really good football and the Sixers sometimes can’t even field a team. I am sorry if this comes off as harsh but we all pay to play in this league and a forfeit is a waste of absolutely everyone’s time and it does not bode well for the league either. So DWW wins regardless of who shows up. Not to say the Triple Sixers do not have talented players, just that this season has been a waste of time for these talented players.

The words may sound cruel,

But what else can I say.

You want me to shut up,

Then show up to play.

For the season closes shortly,

And the playoffs ever loom.

For some it will spell glory,

While others shall find doom.

That is it for the Breakdown. You can email me at [email protected] or tweet me @DonaldWShepherd with your own thoughts on forfeits or possible summer blockbusters. But until next time, another week has been defused.
