Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div A & B) – Week 3

Bombsquad’s Breakdown Week 3 Spring Div A & B

Well, well. Here we are once again in Spring 2013 and already we see the competition is fierce. Some great games were played this past week so let’s take a look at them shall we? OKAY!!!

Countdown to Detonation.

5. In a shocking upset, the Roosters & Donkeys took down the Division A Rainmakers 39-32. Both Q’s had similar stats as both threw 5 TD’s and 1 INT but Ryan Kastner’s pick was for 6 and turned out to be the difference. While Kastner had a decent game, it was below his usual standards, but brother Derek had a big game with 5 receptions for 70 yards and 2 TD’s. For R&D it was Antonio Lanni who made the pivotal defensive play. Danny “Scoop” Gentile spread the ball well and moved it against a top tier opponent. Looks like they are definitely a top contender for Div B. Meanwhile this is a very rough start for the Rainmakers.

4. After taking the CLR Forces flag tournament with the help from our friend the little drunken r thingy, DA Finest raced back to Catalogna to take on the Jonesers who they defeated 53-26. (And I really mean raced). Kevin Wyeth had a ridiculous game. 20-21 for 310 yards and 8 TD’s. Of course the only drop was a pass to the only person on the team who can’t catch a Wyeth pass….(cough, cough Kirouac). Akked Moore was a beast collecting 8 passes for 104 yards and 2 TD’s while the Hair Benabdelkader had 84 yards and 3 TD’s. For the Jonesers, Ryan Lelinowski shined for QB Eric Rapps with 11 catches for 131 yards and 3 TD’s against a strong Div A defense. This team might have a chance if they can pull it together.

3. The Alkaholiks defeated the Triple Sixers 34-14. Karim Chaoual struggled once again although this time against a very strong Alks D. He only had 2 TD’s and 3 INT’s. While he spreads the field well, he is still having issues getting into the end zone. Despite throwing 2 interceptions, Paul Lapierre still had a good game. Tossing the good twin Serge Pilon JR. 2 TD’s on 5 grabs and even giving brother Alex a TD as well. Shane Williams was the star on both sides though with a TD and 2 interceptions. Triple Sixers need to regroup.

2. Once again AAA proves me wrong as the destroy they Mercenaries 45-14. I cannot ever seem to pick the correct outcome for any game involving this group. Gino Di Fazio had another meltdown game as he threw 5 interceptions. 4 of those interceptions found their way into a Lebeau’s hands. On offense, Francois Lebeau had a game we have to expect from him. 27-31 for 289 yards and 6 TD’s. Marc-Andre had another strong game with 8 snags for 64 yards and 3 TD’s while Serge Groulx had 2 TD’s. This team is so unpredictable. As for the Mercs, they will bounce back as they always do.

1. Daron World Wide secures a victory over the Maniax 32-24. Alex Lever had a decent game with 5 TD passes and 2 INT’s. Matthew Bishara caught 2 of those TD’s as did Anthony Comeau. On defense, Gordon Hogan played center field and grabbed 2 interceptions out of the 3 that Rapha Beladjat threw. Rapha hit J.R. Verger 5 times for 114 yards and 3 touchdowns but that was his only bright spot in this game. This team has too much talent not to make some noise soon. Meanwhile, DWW is finally converting on those close games.

BOOM!!! BIEN OUI!!!!!! If you were in L’Assomption last weekend, you know what that is in reference to. Time to point out those who shined. So here they are.

Div A

My Golden Boy can’t be anyone other than QB Kevin Wyeth whose only mistake last weekend was choosing to throw Matt Kirouac a pass.  Otherwise a perfect performance after throwing for 5 other games in 2 days. Amazing.

My SHOWSTOPPA for D A has to be the big man himself Shane Williams and his 2 interceptions against the Triple 6. Great game.

Div B

My Golden Boy for this week is Ryan Lelinowski and his monster game against their Div A opponents. Very quick player and great competitor. Great game, kid.

My SHOWSTOPPA is the brother combo from AAA as both Francois and Marc-Andre Lebeau both had 2 interceptions each. Great family bonding, boys.

It seems the competition is fierce in division B. Out of the 7 teams, only 2 have a winning record. One is undefeated. Of course these teams have been playing against D A as well, but there still seems to be an evenly level playing field for most of the conference.  Although I will say that I expect R&D and their dumbass name to stay at the top with AAA, the rest of the division will cannibalize itself I am sure.

In Div A, it is an interesting scenario. Right now the Rainmakers are in an early hole. Due to their loss against R&D they already have to start analyzing how to make the finals. They already need the 2 other teams to stumble basically to make the finals or they have to step up and start knocking off the big boys. Tonight is their first shot.

Regardless this season is very interesting and is a pleasure to cover. Soon I should have enough material to provide you with some Bombsquad’s Random Thoughts.

Let us now take a look at the week ahead.

In the usual Div A showdown, DA Finest take on the Rainmakers once again. These teams just can’t seem to get enough of each other as they recently faced off in the Div 1 winter final. We know all the names and the usual suspects. These are always great games to watch and epic battles so come out Wednesday and see the action live at 8PM in Brossard.

The Alkaholiks face AAA in a battle of A’s. AAA has been showing signs of their old selves as of late and their defense seems to be stepping up. But they are facing the D A squad that is stacked unlike any spring team I have seen before. Not to mention Paul Lapierre seems to be getting better each passin season. I think AAA will need assistance and they won’t get it. Take the Alks in this matchup.

The Mercenaries renew their old rivalry with the Triple Sixers. Now this is a very interesting game. The Sixers know the Mercs and QB Di Fazio well. But the Mercs also know the Triple Sixers as they have played many times. Mostly I think that the Triple Sixers are just nowhere near where they used to be. The Mercs had a combo of youth and experience and they will put that good use as they defeat the Triple 6 this week.

The Maniax face the Roosters & Donkeys. This should provide an interesting matchup for R&D as the Maniax have a very fast team and big team. But Scoop Gentile had a long conversation with Kevin Wyeth and his offense quickly looked similar to a certain D A squad. Can the Maniax shut down this squad? Maybe later in the season but right now R&D are really strutting their stuff. I see them winning this one.

Finally the Jonesers face Daron world Wide. Again, this is a great matchup. The Jonesers have a phenomenal group and can really make some noise. QB Eric Rapps seems to be getting better each week. But DWW has the talent and experience going for them right now. I think that will be the difference in this game which will be a very close game. Of that I am sure. But DWW will squeeze out the win.

The season is in stride,

And we move towards our goal.

Div B is up for grabs,

The tickets for finals not sold.

The nicknames have started,

Such as “Sleeves and Scoop”,

If you don’t have a nickname,

Your team may be poop.

That is it for this week’s segment. Feel free to hit me up at [email protected] or tweet @DonaldWShepherd to ask me what any of my strange references mean or for directions to L’Assomption, QC. But until then, another week has been defused.
