Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div 1 & 2) – Week 7
Can you see it? It’s not far away. It’s just around the corner. You can almost taste and feel it. The playoffs and another run towards FPF glory. It won’t be long now. This past week brought us ever closer to the end game and some teams are in good shape to make a run, while others are desperate and scared they may fall flat, missing their chance and having to wait for the next train that will move towards the finals this coming Spring.
So let us take a look at what happened this week and what is to happen…possibly….in the near future.
Countdown to detonation.
9. TG and the r thingy take down Terror Squad 35-25. Paul Lapierre led his team to victory with a modest performance that was all he needed to salt away another victory and keep them in the playoff driver’s seat. His 5 TD’s and 1 INT were enough as he used Shane Williams this week to do most of the work and Williams caught 2 TD’s on 70 yards. On the other side Tam Vilaydeth wasn’t able to keep their first half momentum into the second half. As usual, Pat Jerome had a strong outing and led the team in receiving yards with 72 and 2 scores. Tam is definitely spreading the ball around well but they are not getting in the end zone enough to close out games. But this was also a division 1 opponent, so we shall not judge too harshly.
8. The Gladiateurs harness the Wild Boys and win 38-36. Francois Lebeau had another big game with 236 yards passing and 6 TD’s with 1 INT. Alex Lever assumed the role of top receiver on this week with 83 yards and 2 TD’s. Francois’ brother Marc-Andre Lebeau also scored twice and had a pick on defense. Mathieu Rene had lots of yardage this week with 213 and 5 scores but also a costly 2 interceptions. Nigel Thomas got most of the yards with 83 and a TD while Laurent Foucault and Rashawn Perry both caught 2 touchdowns apiece. The Gladiateurs are still getting the wins and the Wild Boys are showing they can hang with the big boys. Should make for an interesting end of the season.
7. Purple Haze smokes the Mercenaries 37-19. Gino Di Fazio has had 2 weeks of very forgetful football. Nine interceptions in the last 2 games and a match with the Finest on the horizon. Carmine Pollice was the lone bright spot with 10 catches for 120 yards and 1 TD. Meanwhile the Haze continues to steamroll through their opponents. Nincheri spread the ball all over the field once again. Robbie Robinson with 2 TD’s and an interception was huge as was Sean Kennedy in the middle with 2 scores as well. This team is living up to what we expect from them.
6. The Wild Boys split their weekend double header as they defeat the Ducks 34-30. Matt René did a great job controlling this game with 4 TD’s on 201 yards passing. All 4 TD’s were to different receivers. The Ducks however were without their starting QB and missing other players as well. Francois Martorello did what he could which wasn’t too bad going 4 for 8 with 3 TD’s. Kenny Baye even threw a TD but he also threw the very costly pick 6 to Frank Bruno which in the end cost them the game. The Ducks only had 5 completions but 4 led to scores. Interesting. I am sure they look forward to having their QB back.
5. Montreal’s Finest slows down the Express by defeating them 53-15. Kevin Wyeth had an incredible game, recording a very interesting Hat Trick. Kevin threw for 6 TD’s, rushed for 1 TD and took an interception over 40 yards to the house for another TD! Quite the game. When throwing, he spread the ball all over the hitting multiple targets. But it was the Finest defense that was huge on this day. Accumulating 3 interceptions off Pat Chenard while only giving up 2 TD’s to the previously hot QB. It was a rough game for the Express and it really hurts their playoff chances now as TG and the little r have extended their lead with very few games remaining.
4. The Hall of Famers continue their winning ways by taking down the Wolfpack 47-28. Once again QB Justin Smolar threw for 7 TD’s. That is the fifth time this season. 3 of those were to his favorite target Adam Crystal. Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, Smolar used the rest of his offence this week. On the other side Pascal Murray had a mediocre game with 4 TD’s. They were to 4 different receivers; this team is still without a win. They can still actually make the playoffs, however. So now is the time if you guys have any Wolfpack magic! Hall of Famers continue to roll and have a great matchup this week.
3. The Bills edge out the Rainmakers in a crazy close game that could have ended in a tie, 40-38. Both QB’s threw 6 TD’s and did not turn the ball over except on downs. This game was a great battle. Bills’ QB Chad Byers used his big man Geoff Beauchense to the tune of 4 TD’s. The Rainmakers’ defense just didn’t seem to have a solution for him. While the Bills were struggling to keep Bobby Mikelberg out of the end zone as he had 3 TD’s. C.A. Sinotte added 2 scores as well for the Rainmakers. Kastner had a chance to end the game in a tie as they scored on the last play of the game and had to go for 2. But his pass attempt sailed out of the back of the end zone securing a Bills victory.
2. The Wolverines hang with Flag Moi L’Sac but fall short losing 38-40. The 2 QB’s in this game were almost identical except in passing attempts. Both had 6 TD’s. But Alex Nadeau-Piuze used 13 completions to get 229 yards while Tony Tabet used 23 to get 228 yards. For L’Sac, the workhorse was Jonathan Beaulieu-Richard who had 108 yards and 2 TD’s. For the Wolverines, Raffi Kozanian had 2 TD’s and the most receptions. But the game once again came down to converts. They are such a huge part of this game and every team should strive to get that much better at them.
1. Top Guns faced off with the Pantheres and lost 28-33. Mike Grilli had a very strong game with 5 TD passes and only 1 interception. And he used all his weapons on this day, hitting Matt Morin for 2 scores. Morin also had a pick in this game and 2 passes defended as well. On the flipside, Mario Porecca had 4 TD passes and 2 INT’s which really hurt the Top Guns’ chances of winning. Although Yadel Meshesha had a big game with 164 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. The win puts the Pantheres closer making the playoffs but they have already played 8 games.
BOOM!! So fell Lord Perth….and the ground did shake with such thunder.
Accolades…it is what some dream of and play for each week. Who will attain Golden Boy and SHOWSTOPPA status this week? Let us See now!
Div 1
The Golden Boy this week is the big man in the middle for the Bills who could not be stopped by the Rainmakers defense and made an incredible one handed grab for one of his 4 TD’s on 6 grabs and 77 yards. Big game, Geoff Beauchenes!!
My SHOWSTOPPA is one of the most unlikely. And it pains me to give it. Mostly because he will never shut up about this FOREVER but Kevin Wyeth had 2 tackles, 1 pass dropped…I mean defended and a 40+ yard interception return for a touchdown against one of the fastest teams out there. Now I hang my head in shame and disgust with myself.
Div 2
The Golden Boy this week goes to the man who tried very hard to carry his team on his shoulders. Yadel Meshesha turned 5 catches into 164 yards and 2 touchdowns in a losing cause for the Top Guns. The second highest yardage by a receiver for the Guns that game…25. Great game and way to push yourself…as long as they didn’t give you some of your brother’s stats and confused the 2 of you! In that case then the backup Golden boy is……never mind.
My SHOWSTOPPA this week is the man who had a pick 6 which was the difference in his game and helped his team win. Frank Bruno of the Wild Boys. Great job.
I had so much fun sharing my random thoughts, that I thought it was time to have another round of them. Hope you enjoy them.
Bombsquad’s Deep Thoughts
How many sets of twins play in FPF?
And can we have the Meshesha twins face off in a relay against the Div 3 Pilon twins?
Why must Damian Hirt of Top Guns wear those eye watering orange pants to games so often? MY EYES!!!
Why do I think of the Three Musketeers every time I see Felix Prevost?
When is the Wolfpack going to have cubs and rebuild their den?
Has Gino Di Fazio possibly gone temporarily colour blind?
Has Adam Crystal stopped kissing balls?
How does Justin Smolar feel about this whole ball kissing situation?
If probiotics are so good for you, what is the opposite that is so bad? Conbiotics?
Is there any way to make Kevin Wyeth completely forget his defensive performance from last week? Like an Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind kind of thing?
Will Karim Binette ever return a pick to the house?
Will Andy Peterkin start a QB controversy with Paul Lapierre out of town?
Where is this tall guy I heard about for the Gladiateurs that finally changed the average height?
Are the Wild Boys ever going to be able to keep calm with the Band Perry on board?
When are people going to start covering Dany Ostiguy? Who you say? Exactly!!! Guy’s a ninja.
Where is the Wolverines team picture?
Does Robbie Robinson realize that Louis Richard is a better receiver and has 140 more yards receiving on 4 less catches?
Why Ducks? Who choose the name and what…….why DUCKS?!?!
If a tree falls in the forest, does it really make a difference one way or another?
The season is winding down and crunch time is definitely upon us! There is not much time left for teams who are not in the playoffs right now, to step up and jump in. The great thing for some teams is that it is not too late! It is up in the air and anyone can make the playoffs. So let’s preview some games from the upcoming week.
Terror Squad started the season at 2-0. Then they faced Montreal’s Finest. Since then they have not won a game. And it does not get any easier this week as they face off against the division 1 Bills. Terror Squad is currently in the playoffs and they need to step up if they plan on making a run. Trying to slay the Goliath Bills is not going to be fun. Byers and company are on their own little winning streak since losing to L’Sac. Sorry Terror Squad but the Bills win this one.
The Mercenaries who were 4-0 to start the season now sit at 4-3 after a close loss to the Rainmakers followed by two poundings by the Express and Purple Haze. QB Gino Di Fazio has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in his last 2 games. Now enter this week’s opponent: Montreal’s Finest. The Finest are coming off a strong victory against the Express, who punished the Mercs. Definitely not an easy task for the Mercs who could possibly sit at 4-4 after starting the season off 4-0. Only time will tell.
The Gladiateurs take on the Wolverines, who have been battling all season against tough opponents. The Glads also have not had the easiest road. I think these 2 teams match up very well. The Wolverines have been playing much better football. The Gladiateurs are as consistent as ever. But I am going to go with an upset pick of the week and take the Wolverines to pull through with some tough defense!
TG and the little r thingy are taking on the Wild Boys. Interesting fact is that Paul Lapierre is on vacation. Most of the time that would give a huge advantage to the Wild Boys. The problem is Andy Peterkin is the backup QB and already has chemistry with half the team! Matt René and the Band Perry have their work cut out for them. But I do not think it will be enough to overcome the talented riddled TG and you know the rest. TG wins.
In the Game of the Week, Flag Moi L’Sac takes on the Hall of Famers. Now the big question is will L’Sac have enough of their roster there to properly defend against the HOF aerial attack? Smolar has ridiculous stats as does his top receiver. But L’Sac has a very potent offence as well. And I think it is their offence that is going to win it for them on this day because the Hall of Famers defense just hasn’t really held their ground most of this season. So in this shootout, I am going to give the edge to L’Sac and their D which has given up 100 fewer points.
Random, deep thoughts,
Are written and done.
We also looked at,
Who lost and who won.
Now the time has come,
To truly step up your game.
If you have any hope or prayer,
Of reaching FPF Fame.
That is it for me here. Feel free to send me your random thoughts and guess as to which direction the TV The Following is going to take at [email protected] or tweet me @DonaldWShepherd but until then another week has been defused.
