Bombsquad’s Breakdwon (Div 1 & 2) – Playoffs Week 2

Well they did it to me again; damn Glads. It was a great week of playoff football, so I won’t sit around batting my gums; straight to the action!

Countdown to detonation

Div 2

4. The Purple Haze got smoked by the Gladiateurs, 53-40. Even with Nincheri hitting his best receiver Louis Richard 10 times for 107 yards and 2 TD’s, it wasn’t enough to get the win. Rob White and Guillaume Robert both had 2 scores as well. But it was another stellar playoff performance from Glads’ QB Francois Lebeau that was the story this day; 27-36 for 231 yards and 8 TD’s!! Four of which went to Nick Guimier and 2 to the man with name I can never pronounce: Charles Baillargeon. The Gladiateurs seem to do this almost every playoff season and that is why I hate picking against them.

3. The Mercenaries tame the Wild Boys 40-26. It seems using Carmine Pollice as a half can work. Who would have thought using an FPF H.O.F. at the QB position could pay off dividends? Well, Pollice had 2 TD’s thrown and 1 receiving. Di Fazio tossed 3 himself and the Mercs got the job done. Matt Rene did not have his best day as the Mercs defense picked him off twice. He had 4 touchdown passes and all 4 of them went to Rashawn Perry. Who was covering– or not covering him? But it wasn’t nearly enough. The Band Perry will come back stronger next time. Until then, the Mercs advance.

2. In an entertaining battle, Terror Squad grounded the Top Guns 36-28. Now get this, Tam Vilaydeth had more yards rushing than throwing. He ran for 91 yards and 2 TD’s against the speedy Guns. He threw for 60 and most of it was to Corey Greenaway. On the other side, the Guns made a game of it. QB Porreca had a rough day completing 11 passes but had 4 TD’s with 1 INT. Casey Cook was a shining star for the Guns with 3 TD’s. It was fun to watch all that rapid movement as the teams chased each other all over the place. Congrats to the Squad and good fight by the Guns.

1. Flag Moi L’Sac pulls out the win over the Hall of Famers 39-27. Justin Smolar had a very average day at the office in this one with 4 TD’s and 2 INT’s. J.R. Verger was his main target on this day with 103 yards. David Chitayat got in on the action with 2 scores and Adam Crystal made it to the end zone once. But Alex Nadeau-Piuze had a slightly better game. 5 TD’s and 136 yards but only 10 completions. He also ran for a TD. JP St-Pierre was the Cris Carter of the game with 3 catches for 3 TD’s. Only 3 receivers caught passes this game on which most of the team had an outdoor U of M practice earlier in the day. But it was enough for them to pull out the win. Flag moves on and great season for the H.O.F

Div 1

2. Montreal’s Finest defeated TG and that little r thingy 47-38. TG gave it a great fight. Jumping out to a 14-0 lead and making the road rough for the Finest. Lapierre threw 6 TD’s but also 2 interceptions, one of those was very pivotal. Jacques Void continued his awesome season with 92 yards receiving and 3 Td’s. But it wasn’t enough. TG had problems stopping Kevin Wyeth and the big man Akked Moore. Moore had 8 receptions for 93 yards and 2 TD’s with 1 coming on a huge 4th down play. Wyeth was efficient as ever with only 6 incompletions and 6 TD’s on 265 yards. This marks the third final in a row for the Finest. Great season by TG and that damn r.

1. The Rainmakers exercise their demons and take down the Bills 45-43. Chad Byers had a big game for the Bills with 7 TD’s and 287 yards but he also had 2 costly interceptions. Michael Samman made a huge play near the end of the game for the Rainmakers, hauling in one of those picks and giving the boys a chance to win the game. Ricky Martin, Geoff Beauchesne, Yves Beriault, Alex Charpentier and Pierre Ianniciello did everything they could on offense to put the game away. But Ryan Kastner and the boys just would not be denied on this day. Kastner spread the ball all over the field using Tim Kraemer, C.A. Sinotte for 3 scores and 133 yards. But it was the pass to his brother Derek, on the second to last play of the game for the go ahead score, that will always be remembered. Giving the Rainmakers the 2 point lead with 1 play left. After a knockdown by defender Bobby Mikelberg on a Hail Mary attempt, the Rainmakers are on their way to the Div 1 Winter finals!

BOOM!!! Like the fireworks exploding before the finals for both divisions…..well maybe not fireworks…possible fire crackers.

Now to preview the upcoming Div 2 Semi-Finals

We have Terror Squad taking on the Mercenaries. The Squad took down the Mercs in week 9 with a 39-20 drubbing. This was at the end of Di Fazio’s 3 week pick-fest. Do not expect the same result this time. It will be a much closer game this time. Both sides have experience. The question is how many times will Carmine Pollice drop to half? I will tell you right now that with Gino Di Fazio throwing; I think the Mercenaries will lose this game as Terror Squad has a great defense with Corey Greenaway, Joe Duclair, Pat Jerome and Sebastien Deschamps. But will Pollice be able to sit back and watch the game slip away if that is indeed what happens? QB Tam Vilaydeth is having a great season and this team caught fire down the stretch. While the Mercs have a great combination of experience and youth, they are also facing a team that is a great match for them. While this will be a very close game, I think Terror Squad will come out ahead.

Flag Moi L’Sac takes on the proverbial underdog Gladiateurs. L’Sac has had a great a season. Coming from almost out of nowhere to dominate division 2 in FPF. The Gladiateurs had a season with a few ups and downs but basically were the same consistent team we see year after year. These teams faced off in week 9 ironically, as did the other semi-final participants. In that game L’Sac won 39-25. Samuel Nadeau-Piuze had a huge game and Francois Lebeau was held to only 130 yards but more importantly he was intercepted 3 times, which is very rare. The Gladiateurs are very good at bouncing back against opponents who have defeated them earlier in a season; I know this first hand. This game will also be a close one I believe. While L’Sac has the speed and talent, the Glads have the years of FPF experience and they have played together for a long time. And it is with this mind that I believe the Gladiateurs are going to upset Flag Moi L’Sac and move into the finals. I know they would prefer if I picked against them but history has shown how that turns out.

Next week we will have the finals previews for both Div 1 & 2.

After many years of work and pain,

The Rainmakers step into the final game.

Montreal’s Finest pursues titles Back to Back,

Rest assured their offense will be on the attack.

While in Div 2, the finals remain to be seen,

4 teams still battle in hopes to reign supreme.

So Saturday night they shall take to the field,

And from the outcomes, the final will be revealed.

That is it for this week. You can contact me as usual at [email protected] or tweet @DonWShepherd with whatever your heart’s desire. But until then, another week has been defused.
