Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A) – Week 9
Bombsquad’s Breakdown Week 9
Well, well, well ladies and germs. What a strange week in our little part of the globe. The Kingz fall to O.N.S. and lose their playoff spot in an amazing shootout. The Mercenaries fall to the Triple Sixers who were without Karim Chaoual and in doing so have now lost their shot at the number one spot. At least we have no winless teams. Let’s get to the recap.
Countdown to detonation.
3. O.N.S. takes a strangle hold on the last playoff spot by defeating the Kingz in dramatic fashion 53-52. Both QB’s had great games and almost identical stats only Francois Lebeau had 2 interceptions. But he still managed to match Craig O’Brien’s output of 8TD passes! I still can’t believe the Kingz managed 8 TD’s after turning over the ball twice. The big story for me in this game was the incredible touchdown grabs by O.N.S.’ Hainsley Adams. The last one was absolutely spectacular. Down the sideline, long bomb, with no room and somehow makes the grab and keeps both feet in bounds. It was something to behold. That grab sealed the victory and places O.N.S. in the playoffs. The Kingz have been mathematically eliminated.
2. The Rainmakers defence once again gives up 30+ points to DA Finest as they fall 39-26. Both QB’s had very similar stats but the big problem is while both QB’s threw an interception, Kastner’s was returned for 6 points by Kishon Thompson. This game was a back and forth battle as both teams had players with multiple catches. The big story is Akked Moore having another huge week for the Finest with 3 TD’s and Karim Binette doing his part with 9 catches for 95 yards. Somehow the Rainmakers kept giving Binette the 10 yard out which he capitalized on all day connecting with Wyeth. Good game but the playoffs are coming up and that is when you really need your A game so to speak.
1. The Mercenaries fall to the Triple Sixers 26-25. To be fair, in the first half the Mercs looked out of sorts and not their usual selves. Meanwhile on the other side Corey Greenaway struggled but somehow got the victory. He tossed 3 interceptions but he also ran for 60 yards on a very good Brandon Pierre. Carmine Pollice tossed 2 interceptions. The most noteworthy thing in this game for the Mercs was Paul Lapierre scoring another 2 TD`s to put him at 23 and an outside chance at the record of 27 not to mention he is 6 catches from 50 receptions and 85 yards from 700. Lapierre is having a season most receivers dream of and is the stand out player on this team. Pollice is also having a great season but I think these seasons are expected of him. I`m sure Pollice will try to get Lapierre there this week. The Triple Sixers have now placed themselves in sole possession of 2nd place. Bruno Collette was all over the field with 9 tackles, 1 pass defended and 1 interception. Pat Jerome had the usual 2 TD`s and JF Marcotte had 8 receptions. This team might be peaking at the right time.
This week`s SHOWSTOPPA is the aforementioned Bruno Collette who had 9 tackles and 1 INT and PD a piece. Great performance and way to step up when your team needed you most!
This week`s Golden Boy is Hainsley Adams who may not have had the best statistical performance but made some amazing TD grabs when his team needed them most, including a game winner which clinched them the last playoff spot. Amazing game Mr. Adams!
Last week we were witness to an ambulance coming out to pick up one of our fellow players who was accidentally injured during a game. I hope this has brought home the realization that we are still playing for fun. Most, if not all of us have to go to work the next day and can`t afford to jeopardize our lively hood by getting seriously injured in a flag game. That being said I hope we all take a moment when playing to realize we have to control ourselves. You must keep control of your body when playing. There should be no excuse for injuring another player or even worse, yourself. We all have lives outside of the field. Of course injuries happen but the least we can do is try to make sure we are not the cause of someone going down.
This game is supposed to be non-contact. Of course it is still football and contact will happen no matter what. But keep your head in the game and don`t let your emotions or aggressiveness get the better of you and confuse flag football with tackle football. Just some food for thought because I know I can`t afford to show up for work in a cast or with a black eye or some other sort of serious injury.
To the PICKS!
The Kingz have been mathematically eliminated and will be in tough against a Mercenaries team looking to avoid the extra game that comes with finishing fourth. In other news, you have Paul Lapierre gunning for the TD receptions record and Carm Pollice who is not happy with his game against the Sixers so that makes for a bad combination for the Kingz who do not have the defensive capabilities to stop Lapierre. I think the Kingz will fall to the Mercs because the Mercs have too much to shoot for and want to close the season out strong.
The Rainmakers play the Triple Sixers in a battle for the 2nd seed. The Triple Sixers defeated the Rainmakers by a single point the last time these 2 teams played. If the Sixers win they lock up the 2nd seed. Interesting thing here is if the Rainmakers and Mercs win, then we have a 3 way tie and the Sixers drop to 4th with the Rainmakers in 3rd and the Mercs jump to 2nd. And I believe the last part is what will happen with the Rainmakers taking a close fought and hard battle.
Finally DA Finest close their season against O.N.S. With a win DA Finest will finish first (they will likely finish first even with a loss and Sixers win, due to their large advantage in +/-). The side story is that the bet is on again where if Jeff Millar intercepts Kevin Wyeth, Wyeth must walk off the field with his head down and not return. I think Kishon Thompson is licking his chops somewhere as last time these teams met, that bet led to a huge game for him. It will be a good game I`m sure as last time O.N.S. were without Craig O`Brien and he is supposed to play this week.
The end of the year,
Only one week left.
Four teams fight for seeding,
And one is left bereft
This time next week,
The stage will be set.
On come the playoffs,
Everyone place your bets!
That`s it for us here at rambling central. Tune in next week to see what the playoff story lines are. I can be reached at [email protected] with any craigslist offerings of vintage furniture and interesting personals but until then another week has been defused.
