Bombsquad’s Breakdown (DIV A) – Week 8
What a week! After some exciting week 8 play, the action translates into the week 9 Game of the Week! Also, we have a three way tie for second place.
I won’t bore you with all sorts of babble. To the action I say!!!
Countdown To Detonation.
3. One Night Stands finally close the deal and seal their first win as they defeat the Triple Sixers in dramatic fashion 46-41. It was a true shootout. Craig O’Brien threw for 7 TDs and 230 yards while Karim Chaoual threw for 6 TDs and 229 yards with one interception. The big story of this game was Tam Vilaydeth making himself big and catching the go ahead TD leaving only 1 play for O.N.S. to come back. On the last play of the game, Craig O’Brien threw a hail mary that Pat Jérome tried to knock to the ground but which popped up and was caught by Ryan Brewster to give the One Nighters their very first victory of the season. Great game.
2. DA Finest royally pound the Kingz 56-33. In a game that was back and forth the whole first half, DA Finest really turned on the Kingz in the second half. The poor Kingz were only six and they were clearly worn out. The highlight for the Kingz was the great performance of Charles Baillargeon who had 117 yards receiving and 4 TDs. DA Finest had the assistance of a Knight once again with Andre Knights. But it was Akked Moore who could not be stopped this day as Kevin Wyeth found him for 3 TDs of his tossed 6. The big stat of this game was back to back pick 6’s by DA Finest’s defence. This game puts the Kingz in the unenviable position of a win and you’re in scenario.
1. The Mercenaries reap revenge on the Rainmakers for their loss earlier in the year beating them 45-30. Paul Lapierre is putting the final touches on his receiver of the year trophy catching 6 balls for 141 yards and 4 touchdowns for the second week in a row leaving him at 21 and well within record breaking territory with 2 weeks left. Carmine Pollice is making a statement as well for QB of the year leading in yards and TDs. Ryan Kastner found his brother Derek ten times in this game but the Mercs were just too much for the Rainmakers on this day. Kastner was limited to 5 TDs on the day while Pollice tossed 7. This is going to be a great final stretch as these two teams are in a three way tie for 2nd right now. Can you feel the tension?
Boom, SNAP! Like that wire in the movie Ghost Ship that cuts almost everyone in half.
This week’s SHOWSTOPPA is DA Finest’s defence for putting up back to back pick 6’s which I have never seen before. Great job boys.
The Golden Boy or should I say Boys this week is a tie between O.N.S. offense for the hail mary to get their first win and Paul Lapierre for his crazy 8 TD’s in 2 weeks.
At this time of the year many people will start looking at where they stand for individual awards. Many people want to maintain their lead or catch up. My question is should you be doing this when closing out the season instead of focusing on winning out? This season there is a traffic jam ala Mercier bridge of the Ville Marie. One loss can make the difference between 2nd and 5th!
As I said last week, I’m all for looking at your stats and following like a maniac but I would never suggest doing this above team goals. This is a team sport and you need to do what is best for the team to make the playoffs and catch the title. It is always great to be recognized as the best at what you do. But I would trade all the individual awards in the world just to hoist another championship trophy.
That being said I wish you all good luck at achieving your goals and hope you put team first.
Picks are in and here we go.
Due to the Ottawa touch tournament this weekend all games are on Thursday in Brossard. The Kingz and O.N.S. meet in a Wild West showdown as it is basically a win and in situation. This game is so hard to choose but as I picked on the WEPL I will say O.N.S. will win this game if they have Craig O’Brien but not by much. The Kingz have kept thing interesting almost all season and this won’t be any different. If O’Brien is not there, the Kingz are playoff bound. I believe the Kingz can win whether he is there or not but I just feel they don’t have the bodies to close out a full game at this point.
Another great matchup is DA Finest against the Rainmakers. This game has interesting implications. If DA Finest lose they will drop into a tie for first with possibly 3 teams. If the Rainmakers lose they can drop out of second. This game has a lot riding on it and it will be a great battle to say the least. Let’s hope both teams field a full squad as they play. The Rainmakers definitely want revenge for this year’s earlier loss. Come watch the action and see who wins.
The Mercenaries take on a deflated Triple Sixers team who fell victim to a fluke play that dropped them to 2nd. I think the Sixers will have difficulties stopping Paul Lapierre as well as Stephane Chartrand and Jacques Void. But the person they need to stop most is Carmine Pollice who is having a ridiculous season. Karim Chaoual and crew will have their work cut out for them. Unfortunately I just think it is too much for them on this week and I predict a Mercs victory.
Two weeks left,
Then playoffs begin.
The Mercs have the tools,
To bring home the wins.
Anyone can take this,
As the season has shown,
But who will step up,
And claim the D A Throne.
This season just keeps getting better. You can email me at [email protected] with your predictions for individual awards and playoff matchups. But until then, another week has been defused.
