Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A) – Week 14
So here we are. The end of another exciting FPF season and what a ride it has been. Ups and downs for everyone involved. So let’s get straight to the finals.
Countdown to detonation.
- Carmine Pollice and his MVP performance, leads the Mercenaries to their second consecutive spring title over the Triple Sixers 39-19. This game was not nearly as close as I thought it would be. Karim Chaoual was held to only 87 yards passing and 2 TD’s. While Pollice had 159 for 6 TD’s and 4 of those were to Paul Lapierre, who also hauled in 10 catches for 96 yards. This game was full of unsung heroes. The largest of which would have to be the rushing performance of Jon Lyristis who had 2 sacks filling in for defensive player of the year Brandon Pierre, who decided to take the playoffs off and relax. Ironically enough, Pollice used more or less two receivers, Lapierre and Chartrand, to win the game. Only one other person caught balls: Gino Di Fazio who had 2 for 7 yards. It just wasn’t the Triple Sixers’ day. The ball was spread around but they just couldn’t get the offensive flow going. An early pick by Teddy Frenette on a long pass to Pat Jerome may have changed the game plan as they did not target Jerome deep much the rest of the way, which is what got them to this dance in the first place. Marcotte had another day at the office with his 8 receptions. But the defense of the Mercs was as solid as ever with Adi Sharma calling the shots and Godfrey Abu, Stephane Chartrand and of course Pollice monitoring the field. A bit of a blowout but hey, these things happen. Congrats Mercs.
My Golden Boy is Paul Lapierre since Pollice got the MVP but Paul finished his season with 33 TD’s total and was the rock Pollice needed for the title. Great season.
My SHOWSTOPPA is Teddy Frenette who had the pick at the start of the game to change the shape of the finals. He is someone who almost never mentioned only because he did such a great job resulting in teams staying away from him. Great season.
Well, it was a memorable season as the Triple Sixers just keep getting better. The Mercs were consistent as ever. DA Finest once again had a letdown in the playoffs and the Kingz fell off the map. O.N.S. once again squeaked into the playoffs and the Rainmakers are looking to be a force in the future. The shape of this league is determined by the level of the competition and every division is definitely getting more challenging. It is a pleasure and a horror to play in this league because regardless of what anyone says about it just being for fun, it hurts to lose in the playoffs. But the ups can be so high.
So come on back for the winter and we’ll do this all again. Bring your squad and battle with the rest of the teams for the title. Rumours are already starting about teams moving players and making pickups. Regardless, it will once again be another great season, just like this last one.
That’s it for us here,
At the Weekly Extra Point Live.
Come back in the winter,
And hope that you team thrives.
You only have to wait,
Another 4 months or so.
Then back to the field,
As teams line up row after row.
Thanks for letting me rant all season. I can still be reached during the off season at [email protected] with any and all rumours of team’s moves and gingerbread house recipes. Until then, another season has been defused.
