Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div A & B) – Week 2

Welcome back for another weekly recap and all around discussion on the top divisions in FPF. This is going to make for a very interesting season to say the least. No one has really established themselves as an early favorite which is why this division is so fun to cover. So let`s take a look at the week`s happenings shall we?

Countdown to detonation

5. The Rainmakers dowse the Triple Sixers 27-12. Just another day at the office for Ryan Kastner with 4 TD’s and 1 INT. C.A. Sinotte was once again the main target for Kastner, catching 6 balls for 55 yards and 2 TD’s. The usual spring additions of Addley Dufour and Teddy Frenette are paying off dividends of course. Meanwhile the Triple Sixers still seem to be having problems getting out of the gates. Karim Chaoual had 153 yards and only 2 TD’s. While he is spreading the ball around well, he needs to start finding the end zone more often. He has the receivers, let’s see how things develop.

4. The Alkaholiks dismantled the Maniax 32-14. Paul Lapierre had a decent game with 5 TD passes and 235 yards but he also had 2 interceptions. Alex Pilon had a big game for Lapierre with 102 yards receiving on 8 grabs and 2 TD’s. Seems like Lapierre is liking his new toys. Jamil Springer was a beast on defense with 2 interceptions. On the other side, the Maniax struggled but this was also a crossover game so you can forgive the lacklustre performance. Curious to see how things shake out for the Maniax as the season progresses.

3. The Roosters & Donkeys defeat AAA in a defensive battle 20-19. Danny “Scoop” Gentile threw 3 TD’s and 4 interceptions yet still won the game. His main target was Marco “Sleeves” Masciotra who had 2 TD’s on 6 catches for 66 yards. On the other side, Francois Lebeau rough game going 23-45 for 180 yards and 2 TD’s with 3 INT’s. Very out of character for Lebeau. His brother Marc-Andre still had a good game with 9 catches for 63 yards and a TD. What happened to AAA on this week? Even with all their defense they struggle. Rochdi “Hair” Benabdelkader even had 2 INT’s and it all just wasn’t enough.

2. The Mercenaries spank the Jonesers 41-20. Gino Di Fazio had 6 TD passes on 221 yards passing and 1 interception. The story of the game had to be the monster performance of Carmine Pollice who had 13 grabs for 182 yards and 3 TD’s. Insane numbers against a fast squad. Sean Avramm added 2 TD’s as well. On the other side, the Jonesers need to figure out their QB situation. Eric Rapps stepped in this past week and had 6 completions. Mostly to Ryan Lelinowski who had 4 balls for 96 yards and 2 TD’s. This team has a lot of talent, now they just need a QB.

1. DA Finest defeated Daron World Wide 43-26 in a game of 2 halves. DWW was actually leading at halftime as they kept the ball out of DA Finest’s offense hands by having long, methodical drives. But after the half DA Finest came alive, outscoring their opponents 29-7. Kevin Wyeth had his usual game of 6 TD passes and of course he spread the ball amongst his team. Alex Lever had a strong first half for DWW but it all fell apart with 3 interceptions in the second half. Maxime Laflamme was big down the middle for Lever with 9 catches and 107 yards with a TD. This team has had a rough start, but I can see them pulling it together very soon.

BOOM!!! Guess I should have cut the red wire.

Well it is time for the individual accolades and I am sure there are not many surprises here.

D A

MY Golden Boy this week has to be the good twin Alex Pilon who racked up over a hundred yards receiving for Paul Lapierre. Also adding 2 TD’s. Great game.

My SHOWSTOPPA has to be Jamil Springer who had 2 INT’s in his game for his D. Monster defense Kid.

D B

My Golden Boy has to be Carmine Pollice who had 182 yards on 13 grabs and 3 TD’s. Still strong after all these years.

My SHOWSTOPPA has to be the man with the Hair as Rochdi Benabdelkader had 2 interceptions for AAA including a pick 6. Great game.

Very interesting debate on the Podcast last week about teams moving up to the top division. No one can argue that there is a definite lack of teams in the top tier. While we understand that everyone pays to play and wants to win a Championship, how can your team ever get better if you do not face the best.

The great thing about these Spring sessions is that the D B teams get to test their metal against the D A teams in crossover games. At least this is a good proving ground. But how interesting is it now that if you win Div A, there is now a cash incentive? Is that enough to convince teams to move up?

I have always wanted to face the best. It is what pushed me to move up. There is definitely something to be said for facing the best. It really is time for teams to start playing in the division their talent deserves. The Winter season will hopefully bring in a new format which will help solve these issues. But I think stepping up on your own is always the best option.

I wonder which D B team will be the first to take down a D A team.

Now to preview this week’s action.

The Roosters & Donkeys take their stupid name to Brossard to face the Rainmakers. While R&D has a very talented squad, they are facing the cream of the crop. Kastner and company may have a few issues with the very strong R&D defense but I know they will come through and win this matchup. Let’s see how many sacks Matt Kirouac can pull off. Rainmakers win.

The Jonesers face DA Finest. I really hope the Jonesers have a solid QB coming into their lineup because they are facing the defending champs in D A in this crossover game. Mind you, DA Finest will be participating in the outdoor flag tourney this weekend so they might just be vulnerable to a letdown game. The Jonesers have their hands full.

The Triple Sixers face the drunken r thingy now known as the Alkaholiks. The Sixers have struggled so far this season and this matchup won’t help matters at all. They are facing a stacked Alks team that looks to take the D A crown. It will be a long Day for Chaoual and company. Look for the Alks to win big.

AAA faces the Mercenaries. While any other season I would have gone with AAA, this season they do not seem to be themselves, so far. While there is lots of time for them to get it all together, right now they do not look like their old selves. Meanwhile the Mercs have a very talented group and possibly one of the strongest in the past few seasons. They are hard to stop. I see the Mercs winning this game.

Daron World Wide faces the Maniax. Now this will be a great game. Both teams have experience. While Maniax may be more athletic, DWW is more consistent. This will definitely be a battle. Can the DWW rusher contain shifty Rapha Beladjat? Can the Maniax defense stop the short game of DWW? It will be a great game but in the end, I think DWW will squeeze out a narrow victory.

Thanks for stopping by,

That’s it for week 2.

Time to see to see who steps up,

And which teams move through.

For we all want the same,

A FPF title in our hands,

So we can call ourselves Champs,

And then strike up the band.
