Bombsquad’s Breakdown (Div 1/2) – Week 6
Two Hall of Fame players who have never had a tie in their careers managed to pull off two apiece. On the same night. This season has definitely seen its share of ties. The standings are all over the place and nothing seems settled. This season is nuts. Let’s get to it!
Countdown to detonation

3. The Demons and Old Skool took to the field and battled. And in the end, no one won. The final score was 45-45. The Demons even managed to survive the turnover battle. It only took Carmine Pollice 12 completions to get 6 TD’s and he ran for one too. Andy Peterkin tossed 7. Six of the seven were to the Cuscuna brothers Jay and Mike. Jay had a great game on both sides, getting 3 sacks to match his TD total for the day. Both Steph Chartrand and Sean Kennedy had 2 TD’s while Paul Lapierre pulled off 101 yards receiving. But in the end, there was no decision.
2. The Expos ground the Redhawks 44-8. Chad Byers also used 12 completions to get 6 TD’s. Both Geoff Beauchesne and Alexis Charpentier caught 2 touchdowns each. Charles St-Martin had a rough outing with no TD’s and 3 INT’s although he did run for one. Rough week for the Redhawks. They need to defeat the Rainmakers to stay in the playoff hunt because the road gets really rough after that. The Expos are still chugging along. P.O. Brunet had 2 interceptions to lead his defence. They are moving towards a very strong finish.
1. Montreal’s Finest defeat the Rainmakers 44-30. Kevin Wyeth had a great game with 209 yards passing and 6 TD’s with 5 receivers catching scores. The defence for the Finest stepped up big when it had to. Ryan Kastner had a good game but the turnovers seem to be killing them this season. Charles-Antoine Sinotte caught 2 scores while Tim Kraemer had 72 yards and a score. The Rainmakers desperately need to win this weekend.

7. Carmine Pollice faced off against fellow Demon Paul Lapierre in the epic battle between Victorious Secret and the Trojans. Final score….39-39. Yes. Another tie. Both QB’s had trouble converting converts. While Pollice relied on centre Jimmy Coupethwaite who had 5 receptions for 88 yards and 2 TD’s, Lapierre relied on Rochdi Benabdelkader who had 7 receptions and 3 TD’s. But the result was still a tie. So the Trojans remain undefeated.
6. The Triple Sixers barely avoid another stumble as they defeat MOMO Nation 19-13. Yannick Vanasse did his best but still could not complete over 50% of his passes. However, he did not turn the ball over, which helped keep it close. Karim Chaoual, nursing a broken thumb, had a rough outing as well. But the extra score is what it all came down to. This was a very sloppy game.
5. In a highly anticipated match, the G-Men took down the Wolverines 40-38. Both QB’s had great games, throwing for a combined 11 TD’s and 1 INT. And that one interception (thrown by Tony Tabet to former teammate Nareg Yessayan) wasn’t even the difference as the Wolverines had a goal line stand to keep the G-Men out of the end zone. Tabet and Gianni Settino led their teams up and down the field. Sevag Kaloussian found the end zone twice for the Wolverines while Daniele Gentile also found the end zone twice. But this game came down to converts. And the G-Men had more. Great game.
4. The Mercenaries took out O.N.S 46-31. Adam Bailey was a monster for the Mercs with 8 receptions for 157 yards and yes…6 TD’s. Although the last one was an insane push off. Andrew Blevins was a beast again for QB Kevin Wyeth catching 4 for 104 yards and 2 TD’s. Hainsley Adams also had some spectacular grabs. But the O.N.S. defence was non-existent. Gino Di Fazio picked them apart with 274 yards and 7 TD’s. The boys in orange better fix that D quick if they want in the playoffs.
3. The Wolfpack pull out a surprisingly close match-up with the Blazer 27-24. Pascal Murray had an okay game. Tossing 4 TD’s, 2 of those to the big man Remy Pare. Leon Holder just cannot seem to stop throwing INT’s. The two he threw were his 11 and 12th on the season. But once again the difference was converts. And the Blazers need to get it together if they have a hope of making the postseason.
2. The Gladiateurs slay the Top Guns 45-20. Francois Lebeau had a great game going 14-18 for 179 and 6 TD’s. Mario Porreca…not so much. He tossed 1 TD with 3 INT’s. But they are still a young team. Damian Hirt helped out his QB, catching 6 for 72 yards. The Gladiateurs’ Charles Baillargeon caught 2 scores and, defensively, Simon Rheaume had 2 picks. Great game after the debacle last week.
1. The Air Squad topple the Tomahawks in surprising fashion, 25-13. Nicolas Lafond still had 2 picks but the 3 TD’s turned out to be enough on this day. That and a lot of running as he gained 71 yards on the ground and a TD. Manuel Lauzon caught 3 for 64 yards and 1 TD. I would write the name of the person who scored the other two, but I am lazy and it is ridiculously long. (Hakim Kasbi-Filiatrault 😉 Mike Grilli just had a really bad day at the office tossing 4 interceptions. Not too often that Lafond wins the turnover battle so here you go. Great win boys.
And BOOM goes the dynamite! Seriously, who thought of that name and does it have a meaning to someone somewhere?

Well this week’s Golden Boy and SHOWSTOPPA is none other than Jay Cuscuna who stepped up big for his team with 3 sacks and 3 TD’s from the receiver position on the right side of the offense. Great game Jay.
D2
This week’s Golden Boy could only be the monster performance by Adam Bailey as he had 6 TD’s and 157 yards receiving!!! Sick game.
This week’s SHOWSTOPPA would have to be Simon Rheaume of the Gladiateurs who had 2 interceptions. Great job Simon.
The race for receiver of the year is heating up in D1. Rochdi Benabdelkader has 10 TD’s to lead the way while Paul Lapierre leads the division in both receptions and yards. Fellow Demon Stephane Chartrand has 9 TD’s and is third in yards. Old Skool receiver Shane Williams is second in yards and has 8 TD’s. This season the race is incredibly tight. Every team has someone in the race which makes it all the more interesting. I can honestly say I have no idea who will win out but one thing is for sure, this season the balls are being spread out around the field.
In D2 the race is just as tight. Sevag Kaloussian leads the division in touchdowns. Vinny Gualano leads in yards and receptions and is only 1 TD behind Sevag. But look at the rest. You have O.N.S centre Andrew Blevins second in yards and 11 scores. The Wolfpack’s Mikhail Davidson is third in yards with 9 scores. Tomahawks receiver Dany Ostiguy has 12 TD’s. There are 9 receivers with 10 touchdowns or more. All of them have over 300 yards receiving. Talk about competition. Keep at it boys. The season isn’t over yet.
Well now it is time to make some predictions.
D1
The Battle of the Basement! The Rainmakers battle the Redhawks in what could very well determine the last playoff spot, as early as week 7. The Redhawks won the first time around. But their schedule after this match is a virtual death sentence. The Rainmakers on the other hand managed to beat the Expos and are tied with the Redhawks but behind them due to head to head. This will be a great game. But I think the Rainmakers will have their day in the sun this week as they will go onto victory.
The Expos battle Old Skool. The last time these two teams played it was a 20-19 victory for the Expos. Both teams are playing great football right now and both are poised for a great finish. The Expos took down the Finest this season and thumped the Redhawks last week. Old Skool has taken down the Demons and tied them as well. These teams match up so well. But I am going to take Old Skool on this week. If they can pull off a tie with the Demons with only six players, I think they can edge the Expos in a close one.
D2
MOMO Nation battles the Top Guns. These two young teams have had a rough ride this season. MOMO has not won a game but thanks to two ties is tied with Top Guns. I think this is a great match as both teams have lots of speed. Yannick Vanasse should not be able to run all over them. Then again the MOMO defence should be able to contain QB Porreca. This game will be close. But I believe that the little extra experience of MOMO Nation will take them to victory lane.
The Gladiateurs battle the Blazers. The Blazers had a very close game with the Wolfpack last week. The Gladiateurs thumped Top Guns. I see this being a very good matchup. I think both teams have very strong offensive players but I think the Gladiateurs have more experience on defence. Also I believe rusher Charles Baillgeron will be able to contain Leon Holder. So advantage Gladiateurs.
The battle of the Empire. Teacher versus student. Pollice versus Di Fazio. Hall of Famer takes on Hall of Famer. This game is going to be great and it is the game of the week. I think with Adi Sharma calling the defence against his D1 QB, things will be interesting. On the other side, the Trojans defence is not that of last season. They have really stepped up. The Mercs have very quietly risen to the top this season. But this week they will stumble. Only because I think Di Fazio always has issues playing Carmine. Hail the Trojans this week.
That all this week,
I’m sorry it’s late.
It couldn’t be helped,
So please don’t hate.
For the end draws nigh,
The playoffs still loom,
Tis the almost the end,
This season ends soon.
That’s it for us here and by us I mean me and end I mean I’m done. Please feel free to email me any and all misheard Lil Wayne lyrics or Master’s predictions at [email protected]. But until then, another week has been defused.
