A 35+ Football Story – Week 10

35+ FPF/KTFL Week 10 Article

Welcome to week 10 with a mix of a championship game and Final regular-season games with 3 teams fighting for 1st place in the Legends division.

March Madness is pure madness this year.  No #1’s left in the Elite 8 on the Men’s Side, 7 teams who’ve never won it now with a chance for their first championship. These players are going to put on a show. It’s not only the #1’s that have fallen, so many top seeds 1-2-3-4 didn’t make it out of the round of 16. The Women’s side while not having as many upsets, is delivering in terms of quality ball.  UConn getting bounced is a shocker but it’s good for the growth of the game to see other teams rising to the top. It’s also nice to see in the expanded channel universe we live in, that we get to see both tourney’s getting lot’s of coverage. Go Miami for both sides on Sunday. #theU

What’s at stake this week in 35+?

JMJ pulled off the upset of the year last as they knocked off the top ranked FPF squad, can they find that magic and take the Championship?  Will Monster hold on to first and lock in a playoff game against the resurgent Rainmakers?  Let’s keep scrolling see what happened this week in the oldest division in FPF!

Legends Division

Monster 41 – Gladiateurs 31

1st place battle here for the regular season championship, who will end up in 1st and face Rainmakers in the semi’s? The answer is above and it’s Monster.  Alex Lever steps in at QB for this game for an absent Francois Lebeau and does an amirable job punching in 5 TD’s with zero INT’s , but his counter Andy Peterkin has a killer day going 15 for 19, 211 yards and 6 TD’s leading Monster to the final W of the regular season.  I don’t know what the record is, but I’m sure Monster set the record for most TD’s to completions ratio. They have set themselves up at the team to beat this year and now face Rainmakers in the Semi’s this coming Wednesday.

Key Stats –  Andy Peterkin’s insane 152.5 QB rating, Nicolas Guimier’s 8/11 in catches with 100 yards and 2 TD’s.

Rainmakers 19 – Pacemakers 18

Last time these teams met, Rainmakers picked up their first and only W of the season, so can they make it 2 in a row or will Pacemakers avenge the previous loss?  Well after season where they saw 5 losses by a TD or less, they finally win a close one and pick up their 2nd win of the season.   While the Jason Rossie and Chris Bockwell connection has been on fire recently, they keep it going here connecting 8 times for 3 TD’s, it’s the Rainmakers who get the only convert of the day via Super Spare Dave Weiss which is the deciding factor in this battle.  Pacemakers now lock in with Gladiateurs for the Semi Final’s.

Key Stats – Pacemakers Chris Bockwell’s 8 Catches/74 Yards/ 3TD’s and Jason Rossie’s solid 4 rushes for 57 yards along with Rainmakers Reynalto Merisier strong defensive outing with 5 tackles and 4 PD’s,

KTFL Draft Division

Paramount 32 – JMJ 18

So after the upset of the season, could JMJ do it again? Not on this day as Paramount comes out swinging and takes the 2023 FPF KTFL Draft Division Championship. Chris Olson would not be denied as he leads his squad with 5 TD’s for 198 yards, 4 rushes for 33 yards, zero sacks against and contributes on defence with 3 tackles, a lone INT to that pesky rabbit Tanner being his only mis-fire on this day. JMJ doesn’t roll over however and puts up a fight, with Jordan Rossie’s 7 catches and captain GM setting the tone on defence with 7 tackles, but while they moved the ball well they just couldn’t find the end zone enough on this day and a late game INT by Rob White seals the deal for Paramount. Congrats to everyone on Paramount on their championship season!!!!

And we didn’t have the plaque at the field and didn’t give out the award, we are pleased to acknowledge Chris Olson as your 2023 KTFL Draft Division Finals MVP!!!

Special shout out to our brother Jon Moodie who lost his mother last week unfortunately, our condolences from everyone in 35+ and all of FPF. Jon is one of the great guys to have ever played FPF and we offer all our support in this difficult time.

Key Stats – Chris OlsOn’s 121.5 QB rating and above listed stats, Karim’s 3 TD catches on only 4 receptions and GM’s 7 tackles.

Legends Playoff Look Ahead

Welcome to the Playoffs for the Legends Division and we’ve got some great Match Ups ahead, this Wednesday at 9pm @ Baie D’Urfe.

(4) Rainmakers @ (1) Monster

Monster went 3-0 vs Rainmakers during the year, but Rainmakers kept it under a score for 2 of those wins.  On Paper, obviously, Monster is the favorite, but as we saw in the KTFL division, regular means nothing and on any given Wednesday, it’s anyone’s game.  Rainmakers have gone through a decade’s worth of injuries in a single season, but signing Chris Rosen, Dave Mallais and Andrew Carruthers during the season has solidified their roster and makes them a threat for the upset.  While they might be ready for the upset, Monster earned 1st place and has a roster that outmatches most and won’t lie down for anyone.  With 11 players playoff eligible, they won’t have a lot of 2 way guys so when they are on the field, expect Monster efforts from each player.  If Karl De Nie is only rushing, he’ll be full of that Dutch Energy so Ryan Kastner better be ready to move and throw on the run.  Definitely a must watch game.

(3) Pacemakers @ (2) Gladiateurs

During the regular season, these squad’s hold an even 1-1-1 record between them. Gladiateurs won the first one early on by 12 but then a tie and Pacemakers winning a shootout 33-32 in their 3rd battle, so we have a pick’em situation here. Reading the Stats, it’s a simple path for Pacemakers to take the win, shut down the Alex twins.  Lever and Moreau has been on fire offensively for QB Frank Lebeau cashing in on almost 50% of their teams receptions. For Gladiateurs, there is a lot to cover offensively, with Shane Williams, Chris Bockwell, Scott Binns leading the way, and of course, the always  dangerous brother combo with Jordan Rossie.  If Jason Rossie is in the zone at pivot, this will be a shootout.  Turnovers and Converts will be the story here as I see these teams scoring early and often.

Good Luck to all four Legends division teams as they battle for a chance at the 2023 FPF Legends Division Championship on April 5th.

So we say goodbye to the Draft Division until next year, where they will move to 10 games like all other divisions. No more making fun of Tanner and the other KTFL characters, but the 35+ division isn’t done yet, as we have some great battles coming up with the Legends Semi-Finals this Wednesday at Baie D’Urfe. Don’t miss any of the action kicking off at 9pm.

Down to 2 games only 2 games next week, so hopefully lot’s of action to make the article bountiful!

See you on the field

Thanks

Dave
