The Final Countdown!
Alright, this is it, the final week of the season. While some teams are primed for a playoff run, others are already in playoff mode and have been for a few weeks now. Others are eliminated, and we want to thank you for your service, it was fun covering you. There is more football however, so let’s break it down. We will start with listing those we finished thanking.
Ok, back to Division 6 talk. With the playoff picture much clearer, let’s take a look at who’s clinched a ticket the big dance so far, and who’s officially eliminated.

A Look Back at Week 12
- If the LaSalle Warriors Midget vs. Slippery Slopes taught us anything, it’s that Slippery Slopes should go with Trevor Ruffner at Quarterback for the playoffs. I then looked at the QB stats and Tro Atolikian actually had 10 TDs and 1 INT going into the game. Maybe the lesson is that Ruffner should QB if they face the Warriors again.
- Where did this explosion of offense come from, from the Trailer Park Boys? 32 points against the Mountain Dew Babies, and 36 points against Threat Level Midnight. But? This just in. With the Trailer Park Boys having gone 1-0-1 in their last 2, dropped their final game of the season against Pigeons, where had they won, they would have clinched a playoff spot. Not only did they lose, they got SMACKED 43-7. OUCH!
- On Monday night, Towers FT got off to a slow start against Gru’s Crew, up 7-6 at halftime, with a hobbling Sam Anastasopoulos diving for sacks against a running Davide Bartolucci, but were able to attack GC deep in the 2nd half en-route to a 20-6 2nd half score. Gru’s actually had a chance to comeback though. Down 19-12 after Mathieu Lafortune‘s 40-yard post-across-the-field TD, the Crew forced a Towers 4-and-out punt to give them possession back. With about 4 minutes left, a final drive to try and go for the win, the drive started and ended with an untimely bad-snap in the endzone, resulting in a safety, making it a 9-point (2 possession game) and giving the ball back to Towers to ice the game.
- Yes, The Habibis are going into Week 13 with a 9-0 record, but their game has been a little off, at least offensively. Their game against TuneSquad was a tough, defensive battle, but dropped balls and interceptions in the redzone were killer for The Habibis. It wasn’t until the 2nd half, where Nick Di Maulo got more touches and were able to drive the field to see the endzone. Defensively though, Nicolas Tawfik is a very good rusher, and even batted down a key pass, but will need to learn to not jump, as Garner Ross exploited it a few times, and other QBs will as well. Also, for your highlight of the game, Adam Antel had a sick one hander in the field of play for a first down as he was spiraling to turn around for the pass. Overall, I’m weary of The Habibis going into the playoffs when they eventually face the top dawgs around them.
- Adam Ouici proved me wrong and put up 5 TDs and 2 more extra points than Liam Gilmore and the MTL Redblacks. 32-30 is a playoff score, and that bodes well for them in the early rounds of the playoffs.
- C Town Spice, nice try on Wednesday night. I know it was a rough season, but the guys got bit by the FPF bug and have already been asking about the spring season. Lots of teams struggle in their first year and comeback to see more success (and beat up on teams just like themselves, who didn’t know what they were doing in Week 1).
Extra Divisional Talk
- Dak to the Future end as the highest scoring team
- TuneSquad could not climb the rankings to make it part of the Top 8 teams that receive a Bye.
- Mountain Dew Babies and Fiddlers COULD climb into the Top 8 if they both win and both Wild Hogs and Win Diesel lose. I don’t see WH or WD losing their games though.
- Your receiver with the most yards will end up being Xavier Hilditch.
- A very underrated and not-uttered name is Cohen Champagne. Why? He has the key stat along with Marcus Lynch and Jeremy Laplante; all are tied with the most 2-point converts with 3 each. I’ve learnt that going for 2 can really put teams away.
