Crunch Time, A Shocked Armenti and Remember The Name Oriola Poirier

We are back for another week in the FPF world as teams try to clinch their playoff spot while others are trying to stay alive. It’s do or die out there, and while the stakes are high, the emotions need to be kept in check. There were some heated battles (nothing crazy), but guys, especially in Division 6, need to remember to be in control of their body. Saturday March 18th in Brossard I witnessed a Brian Dawkins hit on Alge Crumpler type of hit, as a guy lowered his shoulder, made 0 attempt for the ball or flag and tried to separate the receiver from the ball. It was clearly and correctly called for Unnecessary Roughness. Guys don’t see the play the same when they are directly involved. I really wish guys would see how plays are seen from a 3rd party perspective. If there was a replay of it, I guarantee you players would say “oh crap, that looks really bad, but it didn’t seem like that when I was directly involved”. Like the famous Dawkins hit though, the receiver held onto the ball for a crazy catch with massive contact.

Remember to keep your heads cool as the games get more intense. This will help you manage the game and make clear, wise decisions when they are necessary. Also, have a beer or 2 after your game following an exciting victory or painful defeat, but drink responsibly this St. Patty’s weekend.

Division Roundtable Discussion

  • Shoutout to Oriola Poirier (Dak To The Future) for starting in his first Div 4 game this past Saturday. He did not look out of place whatsoever, catching 4 balls for a team-high 77 yards and 1 TD. The guy is a beast and it’s no wonder he has 507 yards and 13 TDs in Div 6. There isn’t anyone in Div 6 that can cover this guy. The name is on the map!
  • In his last two Div 6 games, Poirier has racked up 8 catches for 175 yards and 6 TDs🔥🔥
  • Wild Hogs are streaking, as they are on a 5-game win streak after losing back-to-back games in Week 2 and 4.
  • Speaking of Wild Hogs, they had their hands full with the young and gutsy X-Men team. They needed all the help they could get from rusher Stanley Louis (not a household FPF name) and Ahston Thibeault. Stanley is absolutely the worst kind of rusher for Noah Swaminadhan. If only he would consistently release the ball as quickly as he does, that would have limited the effect the Wild Hogs rusher would have had in the game. Despite all that, if I showed you these QB stats: 16/25, 206 yards, 4TDs, 3INTs vs. 12/28, 99 yards, 3TDs, 2INTs, who do you think would have won the game? The 43% completion percentage and 99 yards from Jason Armenti were enough to lead a final drive where Armenti converted a 3rd-and-10, a 4th-and-16, and a 4th-and-goal (from the 3) to go ahead in the game, leaving just 1 play for the X-Men that couldn’t pray hard enough for Mary to Hail upon them.
  • Speaking with Armenti after, he was super impressed with the young X-Men squad, in particular with the QB on the other end, Noah Swaminadhan and the well-coached, well structured and insanely quick defense. He was shocked when he said they were about 17-18 years old and I corrected him saying the entire team is 15-16.

  • 5 Quarterbacks have over 300+ rushing yards: Emerson Peterkin (411), Felix Gerin-Lajoie (396), Michael Orlando (349), Davide Bartolucci (324) and Simon Constantineau (315).
  • Maccabees want their team to be voiced in different media outlets. OK. Here it is. Done.
  • Douilles Molasses got a gutsy win over Pigeons, with Jérémie Lafortune having a big game offensively with 95 yards and a TD. Pigeons almost completed the comeback, with a late game TD, a successful onside kick conversion, but the DM defense locked it down from about 4 yards from the endzone.
  • Another surprising team with a 5-game winning streak is TuneSquad, as they shutout Gru’s Crew 25-0 that saw them pick up their 6th win of the season to improve to 6-2.
  • Xavier Hilditch (The Royals) is on an absolute tear. In his last 4 games, he’s amassed 400 yards on 23 receptions, 10 of which have crossed the endzone. He’s now catapulted himself into the #1 receiver in yards in Div 6. Most TD catches goes to Luca Chiricosta (Pigeons) with 16.
  • Nabeel Khatib has racked up the most sacks, with a Division-high 15 sacks.
  • 7 of the Top 9 rushers have 9 or more sacks and have between 4-6 PDs on the season. That is a double-threat that really sets back offenses in a major way.
  • All you 5/6-point teams are the line for playoff teams and are in a battle to not get eliminated, which includes Why So Serious?, Towers FT, Bananas, MTL Red Blacks, FA Squad, The Royals.
  • George Spano is your tackle machine with 31 tackles. That leads the Division and is a testament to his ability to shoot gaps and limit the opponents short game.
  • Last weeks game prediction: Threat Level Midnight 18 – 19 Trailer Park Boys.
  • Actual result: TLM 6 – 36 TPB
  • FA Squad put together their best game of the season on Saturday against C Town Spice since their 2nd game of the season against Slippery Slopes. “Mr. V” had a big game for them offensively, hauling in all 6 targets thrown his way for 57 yards and 2 scores. Defensively, Eagle had the team in position to make plays on the ball, as the FA Squad came away with 5 turnovers, including a “wait, what just happened?” INT from Mathieu Béland and a crucial pick 6 from Dean Fleming to end the first half. Dallas Odem is still sometimes deciding where the ball is going in the huddle, runs a little too much for my liking, and has thrown a Division-high 26 INTs. He was better last night, but I do have to constantly remind myself this is Div 6 and that I was pretty similar when starting out at QB. Gotta remind myself to have some patience!
  • FA Squad absolutely needed the victory to stay relevant and alive in the playoff race, as their next game is against the exhilarating and youthful X-Men tonight at Hebert.
  • Justin Gauthier has now thrown the most TD passes in the Division with 39. Can he make a splash for the QBOY award?
  • Top G have to be the team with the most size, and great skill, but at the same time, the most disorganized team in Div 6. They are good guys that just wanna play some ball, but would have even more fun if they just followed the basic roster and uniform rules.
  • Your remaining undefeated teams are down to 2: The Habibis and Baby Rays, both at 8-0. They also happen to be the only 2 teams that have allowed less than 100 points, 80 and 96, respectively.
