Another Week, another win?

Alright, it’s almost that time of the year where the wins feel like one small step closer to a playoff spot, but the losses are absolutely heart wrenching. While some teams are running out of racetrack, next week’s article will look to see which teams have clinched a playoff spot, as we will have a better idea of the playoff picture.

Otherwise, let’s dive into the ins and outs of this past week in the FPF world.

Division Talking Points

  • The Royals are 2-1-1 in their last 4 games and it has risen them from the dead and put them in a prime position to make the playoffs.
  • The Habibis made a statement with a 31-6 smothering victory, as Manny Bizogias couldn’t beat Zack Stacey and Nick Di Maulo with their combined 4 interceptions. Stacey had 3 while Di Maulo returned one to the house. Fiddlers also couldn’t contain Di Maulo offensively, as he went off for 3 TDs on 9 catches for 89 yards.
  • Need an XP1 convert? Call up Daniel Devine. He leads the Div with 7 successful conversions.
  • In my prediction last week, I had TuneSquad winning it 26 – 18 against No Fly Zone. Final score was 20-19, so No Fly Zone were able to get 1 additional stop, but the victory went TuneSquad’s way with extra points being the deciding factor. Adam Antel‘s two XP1 converts ended up being the difference maker.
  • Man, 17 points is a weird amount of points to score with just 2 TDs. Nonetheless, Maccabees come away with a very strange 17-6 victory over MTL Red Blacks, mostly spearheaded from Jordy Melnik and his 5 sacks.
  • Emerson Peterkin and Sam Anastasopoulos have taken over the INT leaderboard, both guys with 10 INTs on the year.

  • Really Win Diesel? No jerseys?🤦Pigeons come away with a surprising 30-24 victory. They are definitely making teams look over their shoulder, wondering who these Pigeons are. I’m definitely intrigued now and want to see them in action.
  • What is happening with the Betway Bandits? They are stumbling a bit with back to back losses, with their latest loss to Don’t Blink. Both teams scored 4 TDs, yet Don’t Blink won by 6 thanks to their 2 point converts. HUGE!
  • Noah Swaminadhan‘s 133.1 QBR is NASTY and might just win him the Quarterback of the Year.
  • LaSalle Warriors Midget, after being covered on FPF’s Mic’d Up on IG, go 2-0 in Week 10 with wins over Practice Squad and a close one against Douilles Molasses.
  • I’m not sure which one of the 3 picks it was, I just know it wasn’t the Demon’s first throw of the game, but one of them was as if Ryan McGrath caught a punt and ran sideline to sideline, back jukes and all for 15-20 seconds before the Demons were able to deflag him.
  • Idk if beating Betway Bandits was their mic-drop moment, but Don’t Blink followed up their surprising victory with a no-show forfeit.
  • Speaking of forfeit, Mountain Dew Babies almost forfeited their game against FA Squad, and with some late night communications, FA Squad were scrambling to get to the field. Needless to say the game didn’t start the way FA Squad wanted, down 24-0.
  • Luca Chiricosta (Pigeons) is making a name for himself as one of the division’s best receivers. He’s 5th in catches (33), 1st in yards (476) and T-1st in TDs (14).

Game Preview

Threat Level Midnight (1-7) vs. Trailer Park Boys (1-6)

Threat Level Midnight

vs.

Trailer Park Boys

Two struggling teams battle it out at 9:10 pm in Laval. The struggles for both teams start at the Quarterback position. More surprising of the 2, Antoine Meunier who we expected to be amongst the Top 8 QBs in Division 6, finds himself tied for 18th for the most TD passes and Passing Yards. For Threat Level Midnight, Antoine Richard has the 14th most Passing Yards and is 23rd with 16 Passing TDs but has done so in 8 games to Meunier‘s 7. The comparisons don’t end there; both Quarterbacks have targeted their family members the most. Antoine Richard has targeted snapper Simon Richard 44 times, grabbing 37 of those targets (1st in receptions in the division) for 342 (13th) and 4 TDs (T-58th), while Antoine Meunier has targeted Fred Meunier 41 times but have converted less often, as Fred has caught 26 (T-13th) of his targets for 213 (47th) yards and 5 TDs (T-41st).

All that said, when those are your leading receivers and your next-best receivers are way behind them, the overall offense is easily described as trying. With both offenses struggling and both teams with 1 win, this Group D divisional matchup is crucial for both teams looking to make a late-season push to the playoffs. While Trailer Park Boys will have 2 games left after this one and TLM will only have 1 game, I believe Threat Level Midnight actually have the better chance to make it in over TPB, if either team were to win this matchup. TLM would need to win their last game of the season, which is against the 0-7 Gyprock State University who have given up 327 points, while TPB’s would need to beat the Mountain Dew Babies and Pigeons, two 6-2 teams who have put up more than double the offensive points than them.

As for this game, both teams will need to test the deep ball for a quick score at least 1 time per drive. The offenses haven’t been consistently moving the ball, so if that’s the case, why not take a shot deep to put up points? In that given situation, I like the Meunier-to-Meunier connection just a little more. That said, Threat Level Midnight have produced considerably more turnovers from interceptions than the TP Boys. The TLM defense has produced 10 INTs to TPB’s 5 (3 of which come from subs Alex Blais and Alex Wilhelm). I think both defenses will have 3 INTs, so whoever can get the 4th INT will come away the winner. If Will Richard played for the Trailer Park Boys, he is a menace as a rusher and will cause either sacks or errant throws from Antoine Richard. He will also be able to contain the shifty Richard, as he has accumulated over 200 rushing yards so far this season.

The game could come down to converts as well, and that is tight between the 2 teams. TLM have 4 successful XP1 converts and 1 XP2 convert while TPB have converted 6 XP1 attempts and 1 XP2 convert. Look for the aforementioned receivers, Simon Richard and Fred Meunier to come up with a big convert play.

Prediction: Threat Level Midnight 18 – 19 Trailer Park Boys
