KGP vs Killa Bees

Score: KGP (31-12)

Division 2

by Jeff Rosenblatt

To quote FPF Legend Moe Khan, who was at the field Sunday night at Lachine, “It looked like the KGP defenders had magnets in their hands all night”. In all the years I have been playing flag, even in the highest divisions, KGP plays some of the best defense I have ever played against. Even without their defensive captain Quaysie Gordon-Maule, the KGP defense picked off Pat Chenard 4 times to solidify their first win of the year.

Phil Cutler, a former Mcgill linebacker, has established himself as one the best QBs in FPF. He went 18 for 25 for 174 yards and 5 TDs in this contest, mixing up short and deep passes all night. The Killa Bees had no answer for the methodical KGP offense. Jonathan Garfinkle led all receivers with 7 catches for 90 yards and 2 TDs.

With the score 19-6 at halftime, KGP started on offense in the second half. They capped off a 5 play drive with a TD that essentially ended the game. Dylan Garber chipped in with 2 TDs of his own on 5 catches, and KGP now looks ahead to their battle with Run it Once to try and secure their second win of the season.

Unfortunately for the Killa Bees, they simply couldn’t finish their offensive drives with scores, and some costly interceptions has them in an 0-2 hole to start the season. With division 2 being stacked this year, they will need a win ASAP to keep their playoff hopes alive. The team is filled with FPF veterans with Pat Chenard, The Viens brothers and Matthieu Thuot, so I am hopeful they will get on track in their upcoming games. The road doesn’t get any easier as they face Braves 2.0 in their next game.

Braves vs Flag Moi L’sac

Score: Braves (46-35)

Division 1

by Jeff Reosenblatt

Over the past few seasons, FML and the Braves have provided us with some of the most entertaining Div 1 battles. Almost all games have been decided by one score or less, which is not surprising, as these are 2 of the best teams FPF has to offer.

In a classic Div 1 offensive explosion, The Braves outlasted Flag Moi L’Sac 46-35 Sunday night at Lachine. Jo Maheu led the Braves, going 18 for 27, 215 yards and 7 TDs for whopping 130.4 QB Rating. He distributed the ball evenly with Alex Pilon, Serge Pilon, Mike Pierrecin, Guillaume Beland and Georges Gariepy all finding the end zone. On the other side, Alex Nadeau-

Piuze went 22 for 35, 249 yards and 5 Tds for FML. Francois Rocheleau and Nicolas Arsenault-Hum combined for 13 catches and 184 yards.

The game went back and forth, with the Braves scoring on the last play of the first half, to take a 26-21 lead into halftime. In the second half, with the score 32-29 Braves, ANP missed a wide open JP St-Pierre on a crucial 4th down to give the ball back to the Braves. On the ensuing drive, Jo Maheu missed a wide open Phil Pharand on 4th down to give the ball back to FML. Those were two throws that these veteran QBs rarely miss. FML drove down the field, and on another crucial 4th down, FPF sack king Julien Paiement sacked ANP to give the ball back to the Braves.

With 6 plays left, and the score 38-29 Braves, ANP threw a deep ball into 3 Braves defenders, but Francois Rocheleau made an incredible catch to cut the lead to 38-35. FML conceded their Extra Point attempt and opted to use their onside kick. With an impeccable play design, JP St-Pierre made an incredible catch on the sidelines. Unfortunately, he landed with one foot in bounds and one foot on the line, making it an incomplete pass. Maheu then connected with Gariepy for the TD to cap off the game for the Braves.

Another exciting game in the Braves-FML rivalry.

Urgence Medic vs Moretti Crime Family (Div.2)

Brent Bodkin

On paper, this matchup looked like it was going to be a showdown between two of the best teams in Division 2, and two squads who could very well meet up in the Finals.

One team kept up their end of the bargain, as Urgence Medic looked like they were one of the best, and could very well be playing championship weekend, while the Moretti Crime Family looked dazed, lost, and confused, from the opening whistle. After forcing four straight incompletions to start the game, Urgence Medic, scored two plays later on a touchdown pass from Quarterback Jesse Dupuis to Receiver Alexis Gaumont.

The rout was on from there, as the aggressive Urgence Medic defense forced two more turnovers on downs on the next two MCF offensive drives, which resulted in TDs for AJ Gomes and a second for Gaumont.

The key to the success of the Urgence Medic defense, was their ability to smother the MCF Receivers with glue-like coverage and take away the deep ball. Defensive Back Samuel Lapierre had a standout performance with a game-high two interceptions and forced QB Joey Taylor to have to tap the ball repeatedly or overthrow his targets to avoid the DB’s length.

The Moretti Crime Family who trailed (31-0) at halftime, got their act together in the second stanza as they put up 29 points, but by then the damage was already done.

Final Score: Urgence Medic (43-29)

Vengeance vs Braves 2.0 (Div 2)

Brent Bodkin

For what feels like the millionth time, the best two Quarterbacks in FPF went head-to-head, in Kevin Wyeth and Jonathan Maheu.

Just like virtually all the other times before it this matchup did not disappoint. Both Quarterbacks marched their teams up and down the field delivering strikes and throwing passes into tight windows that very few other QBs could do.

Both Quarterback also received great performances from their Receivers, as Georges Gariépy, Rory Semerjian, Matt Kirouac, Sébastien Crisi-Lauzon, combined to score 10 touchdowns, and made huge plays on both sides of the ball for their teams the entire contest.

This showdown came down to the final play of the game. After getting a 43-yard touchdown from Semerjian, Vengeance, declined the extra point conversion, and attempted an onside pass. The attempt the unsuccessful, which gave the Braves 2.0. the ball at Vengeance’s 5-yard line.

The Braves 2.0 took a (46-41) lead on a TD by Crisi-Lauzon, giving the ball back to Vengeance with five plays left in the contest.

The remaining time would be exactly what Wyeth needed, as he connected on passes to Antonio Lanni, James Drysdale, and Michael Khazaka to get the ball down deep inside their opponent’s territory. On the final play of the game, Wyeth, realizing that the Braves 2.0 were playing a man defense, called for Drysdale to do a double move at the goaline. The route worked, as the QB hit his Receiver on an out at the front left corner of the endzone for at the game-winning score. Fantastic end to an amazing game.

Final Score: Vengeance (47-46)

Mongoose vs That’s What She Said (Div 3)

Brent Bodkin

This is another game that came down to the wire, as Mongoose was able to escape with a three-point victory on a game-winning touchdown by

Credit to both teams who only had six players apiece and made it all the way out to Laval in the middle of a snowstorm, which slowed down everybody including yours truly, and delayed the start of the game.

Going into the half, Mongoose clung to a (14-13) lead. The second stanza was just as good, as both offenses wasted little time getting in gear as each team scored on their first play after the break, as Antoine Roberge for That’s What She Said, and William Tondreau of the Mongoose scored on 40 plus yard touchdowns that saw them burn their defender down the sideline.

This game came down to the final possession for each team. After Marc-Olivier Beauchamp of That’s What She Said, who had a strong game, scored a 26-yard touchdown to bring his team to within three points, the team elected to go for an onside pass. Unfortunately for Michael Scott’s team, they were as successful as Dwight trying to best Jim, which resulted in Mongoose getting ball back on their opponent’s side of the field. Two first downs by the offense sealed the game and the victory for Mongoose.

Final Score: Mongoose (28-25)

Les Bleue Dry vs No Punt Intended (Div 5B)

Brent Bodkin

This game lacked excitement in the first half as No Punt Intended held a (12-6) lead at the break. Les Bleue Dry woke up on both sides of the ball in the second half, as the offense exploded for 26 points, as Quarterback  Frederic Juneau, who looked shaky at times, delivered some beautiful passes, and used his feet to evade the rush buy time for his receivers to get open, lure the defense in one direction, and throw back to the other side of the field to wide open targets.

The Les Bleue Dry offense was helped by their defense that forced two interceptions, one by Samuel Sicard, and a second by Eric Namts, that was run back to the house for a score putting the nail in the coffin in this one.

No Punt Intended has some talent on their team in Carter Condon, Matthew Cadogan, Marco Durante, and Jack Tsonos among others, but they need to iron out the turnovers and deep ball defense.

Final Score: Les Bleue Dry (32-12)

traded jabs, uppercuts, and haymakers making the matchup look like a potential heavyweight championship fight that many including yours truly wouldn’t mind seeing once again come playoff time.

Division 1 féminine – Semaine 2

Vortex 34 – 6 Torrents

Marie-Laure Chaput

MVP Vortex: Joanie Provost

MVP Torrents: Sacha Logue
