Week 6’s Power Rankings/Week 7’s Picks

Peeze’s Playbook

Week 4

This week’s introduction is a segment I like to call: “This Week in Facebook”. For those members who are avid participants in our Facebook group this may seem a little repetitive.  However, there are some of our community who are not involved in Facebook discussions and may not even have an account.  As such, I wanted to use this platform to extend the conversation.

In the past we had weekly article that, while not completely different from what we have this season, were somewhat different in format.  Each week, a writer who was assigned a division would have an article that would recap some games, preview others, allow authors to make their picks for the division and list their power rankings (in addition many of the writers would have a portion of the article that was unique to their style).  This is a format that worked well.  However, one complaint we would get from readers is that all of our content would come out at the same time.

For example in a season such as this, the games run from Saturday to Thursday.  The weekly podcast has been on Thursdays for years at this point and as such the articles would come out Friday evening or Saturday morning.  Often these articles would recap games that happened nearly a week ago.  The content was cluttered and often seemed out of date.

Writers had an issue too.  As previously constructed, the writers had a few hours to write an article that was often 7-8 pages in length.  The idea behind the articles this season was firstly, to put less strain on our writers as we have realized that good FPF analysts and writers are hard to come by.  Secondly, we wanted to spread content out so that there was FPF content every day of the week.

This comes in a season where we offer more coverage than ever before.  Game of the Week has become a standard as well as the podcast and our written content.  We have added weekly recaps on social media (Facebook and Instagram) and have employed photographers to capture action photos for Instagram and for the writers to use in their content.  We’ve also added team stats (which we are working to expand) and a play by play tracker.

The main issue we’re having on a logistical/administrative side is that we tend to think ahead of the capacity of our website.  We have great ideas but often, our website doesn’t support these ideas.  We are working on that but it will take some time.

So for the moment, it does seem as though the content is scattered and a little hard to follow.  It is also new and people are resistant to change.  Additionally our writers are working on this new format and they are going through going pains as well.

One thing I did mention in my Facebook post is that I don’t pretend to have all of the answers.  These are ideas and like anything else there are positive contributions and negative consequences as well.  No idea is final and written and stone and everything is subject to change.  I am always interested in hearing ideas with regards to how we can improve.  I want to take this opportunity to reach out to the community and ask for ways we can best meet your expectations for coverage while keeping In mind that we want to focus on nearly daily coverage that is complete and relevant and will not wear down our talented media members.  Remember that you can reach out to me on Facebook @Peeze Della Reeze or by imaging us at [email protected].

Power Rankings

Ever heard the expression “ball don’t lie”.  You may think you’re better than your record or that your team got screwed.  Our analysts will consider your resume, your record and whether or not you are truly deserving of being the top teams in the division that you play in.

Division 6D

By Ignacio Valdez Manzanedo

1

Trojans (5-0)

Another week, another win, another #1 seed in the Power Rankings for Alex Fafard and company, this time, teachine the once undefeated Inglorious Basterds that they are the class of Division 6D. It’s not on their schedule, but a battle against What Could Have Beens would have been a Super Bowl game for the division. Fafard has this offense rolling with 971 yards of total offense and the defense has come away with 14 interceptions.

2

What Could Have Beens (6-0)

WCHB’s once again steam roll another easy opponent in week 6 vs. Boucsaneers. Sean Brown has been lights out with a 6.25:1 TD-to-INT ratio and while so has Regis Kodua, this past week, it was brother Randolph Kodua with the big game, snagging 4 receptions for 86 yards and 2 TD’s and picking up a sack on defence. Finally, they will have their first test since playing The Replacements back in week 4, when they face off against the 7th rounders on Wednesday night in Laval.

This Week: #2

3

7th Rounders (6-0)

38 points allowed in 6 games is just unheard of… for you math wizzes out there, that’s 6.3 points allowed on average a game. I think that average is going up next week after the face Sean Brown and the electric What Could Have Beens offense. This matchup will be a classic Offense vs. Defensive battle, and as you saw in the Super Bowl, you can hold down an offense for only so long… 15 INT’s and 10 sacks combined as a defensive unit, the 7th Rounders better be ready for the challenge on Wednesday.

4

Stiffy Arm (4-1)

Adamo Colella is coming into his own, having put up a minimum of 26 points in every game so far this year and having 5 receivers with over 100 yards receiving. However, in looking at their strength-of-schedule, they have had the 2nd easiest schedule, and in their only tough game, they lost to the Trojans. That’s why this week’s game vs. Tropic Thunder will be a great test for them, and be a telling game for the rest of the division to see where they truly stack up. Stiffy Arm are the fastest rising team this week, moving up 4 spots from 8 to 4.

5

Tropic Thunder (5-0)

I think I was just as disappointed in Tropic Thunder as Alex LaRoche was in their team captains, Emre Sagir and Tyler Grondin for having planned a schedule that had them play an 11pm game against 89.9ers last Sunday. A win is a win, but it definitely matters how you win, and squeaking out a victory, 13-12 against an inferior opponent is not how you want to start your ascension into the playoff conversation. Offense looked lack-luster while the defense kept them in last week’s game with 3 back-to-back-to-back interceptions to seal the win.

6

Les Studz (6-0)

Although their game was close against Boucsaneers, Les Studz turned it around and laid a beat down on Zone 6 Ballers, 42-0. I like what I’ve seen from Les Studz so far, but I am going to have to go with Peeze and swipe left on this team. That Boucsaneers game scares me a little that they can let a team creep in on them like that. On top of that, Les Studz, along with WCHB’s, Trojans, and Zone 6 Ballers, have had the easiest road so far en-route to their perfect records (minus Z6B’s), where opponents have a measly 44.44% win percentage.

7

Inglorious Basterds (4-1)

The IB’s suffer their first loss of the season against the high-flying Trojans. Time to pick up the slack and get back to work, as the season is a long road of ups and downs. Keep playing at a high rate against Killer Rays and Raw Sauce as you prepare for Tropic Thunder in week 9.

This Week: #7

8

Lionhearts (4-2)

The Lionhearts have made it clear they can score points, but the fact remains that if almost, for every touchdown, there is an interception being thrown, I don’t like your odds of winning a game. While I like the leadership that Joe Morgese and Gino Di Pietro are bringing, the decision-making at the quarterback position has to improve.

9

Believe The Hype (3-1-1)

Finally! Believe the Hype make the cut into the top 10 Power Rankings! I have been waiting on these guys, as they usually made my #11 spot, just shy of being written about. Jacob Soles is a great quarterback who reads the field well and can deliver a strike from the pocket and on the run. I’ve seen a couple of their games early in the season and the connection between Soles and Jackson Roy-Hebert is on point, and he’s showing that by leading the team with 215 yards and 7 TD’s. They absolutely need to win their next 2 games as they close out their season against 3 tough opponents in Stiffy Arm, Trojans and Tropic Thunder.

10

Zone 6 Ballers (4-2)

Just as I mention a breakout game by Jeansley last week, I must have put a curse on him and the Zone 6 Ballers, as he had his worst outing as a quarterback in FPF… 0/8, -5, yup, that’s a MINUS 5 yards, and an INT. One way to look at it, and this is the way Z6B’s must look at it, is that a game cannot get any worse than this. They need to stick together, take the loss to heart, and come out angry, but composed as they face The Replacements this week. They round out the top 10 because I do believe in this team, but they are on the edge if next week doesn’t go well.

Division 6

By Ignacio Valdez Manzenedo

1

Suicide Squad (5-0)

Even down to a 5-man roster and needing to add 2 subs off the field at Hebert in Karine Legault and Lauriane Beauchamp, was not enough to slow down Alex Noel and his offense. They ploughed through the Kings of the North and shut them down offensively for another easy win to go 5-0. Note: They are the first team to crack the 100 mark in the +/- differential, which is always an impressive feat.

2

Winnie Tha Bish (4-0-1)

This team can win almost any type of game. This past week they had a shootout against Stack Your Roster and came out on top, pouring on 41 points on their way to victory. I caught a bit of that game, and while Danny McFee’s running agility is legit, he could use the remaining games to improve his precision passing, as he completed less than half his passes, and threw 2 pick 6’s. A little cleaner game from McFee and this team is close to unbeatable.

Last Week: #3

This Week: #2

3

Trapstars (4-1)

Moving their way up to the #3 spot is Trapstars with another stellar performance from Ryan Garber at QB in Week 6 vs. Chambo. I’m excited to see how they fare against teams that will truly challenge them in Pension Plan and Space Ape’s in the coming weeks. While Cooper Young has established himself as a stud WR, they need someone to be the clear #2 and #3 option. It should help the offense be less predictable. Nice job by the defense to keep a streaking Chambo team at bay, although the CTA feed suggested that Chambo QB Jonathan Perez may have been playing injured.

Last Week: #4

This Week: #3

4

Space Apes (3-2)

This is a very solid 3-2 team that has many of the components needed to win in FPF: A solid offense that can sustain drives with a solid short and run game, while able to hit the deep shots when it gets opens, a returning, more composed Charles Duschene at QB after having had more reps playing in the MFL, a stellar rusher in Terry Babalis, and an imposing defence with the likes of JF Daloze and Kamba Katchelewa as pillars on the field, and a clear #1 receiver in Louis-Mathieu Dufour who torched the Average Joe’s this past week for a 7 reception, 114 yards and 3 TD performance. They are the fastest risers this week, moving up 5 spots from last week.

5

Masters of Coin (3-1-1)

Well, they lose their first game, so they, as promised, drop in the Power Rankings to the #5 spot. It’s possible MOC took their opponent lightly after seeing a team with a losing record, but Tankin’ for Tua has the talent to keep up with most teams, and showed it last Saturday. Masters of Coin should have a relatively easy time with the rest of their schedule and should use the remaining games to get playoff-ready. Yeah, it’s already time to start mentioning playoffs!! While we are in the dog days of the winter and the FPF season, an exciting time is just around the corner!

6

Average Joe’s (4-2)

The Joe’s lose a tough one to Space Ape’s in Week 6. Sitting at 4-2 is decent when considering they’ve had the 3rd hardest schedule in Div 6, as analyzed via Alex “The Eagle” D’Aquila’s Strength-of-Schedule tool. While the offense can put up points, the defence needs to regroup and refocus, having allowed 82 points over the last 3 games vs. giving up 38 in the first three. This may be my most biased comment yet, but I’m confident in this team and certain the Joe’s can matchup with just about anyone in the division.

7

Primetime (4-2)

Primetime have now won 4 of their last 5 games through the arm and legs of Nick Richard, along with other second year WR’s Alessio Muro and George Zergiotis. But it’s been rookie Zack Stacey stealing the show for Primetime, already eclipsing the 400-yard mark on offense. I have them ranked ahead of their next opponent, The Potatoes, because I think in a matchup between the two, Primetime can take it. Let’s see if I’m right on Saturday.

8

The Potatoes (5-1)

I’m sure players from The Potatoes are scratching their heads after being left off the Power Rankings last week with a 4-1 record. I’ll reiterate, this is not a ranking of the teams of the teams based on the standings, but it did seem funny to be leaving off the #1 off the Power Ranking. They do make it on the list this week, as they finally played, and beat a consistent, solid team in the Trailer Park Boys. Samuel Lamothe is really taking care of the rock with out 3 INT’s in 6 games and has spread the ball very nicely, resulting in 5 receivers with 100+ yards, with Billy Kourtoglou leading the way with 18 catches and 214 yards. Also, Jeremy Pelletier is making a case for 2-way player of the year as he’s caught 7 TD’s for 140 yards, and intercepted opposing quarterbacks 5 times already. Potatoes get a little longer write-up as they haven’t seen the words typed in their favor the last weeks. They have allowed an average of 13.7 points a game, a stellar defensive stat that may finally prove Peeze wrong that defense can win championships.

9

Pension Plan (4-2)

Pension Plan get back to their winning ways by bullying their way through the Wolfpack to improve their record to 4-2. The legend of Vince Pisano continues, as he is 3 yards away from having 5 receivers at 100+ yards for the season. They’ve had the 4th easiest schedule in Div 6, so this next week’s matchup against the young Trapstars team will be their toughest test yet and will answer the age-old question of which is better: wistful experience or youthful exuberance? Find out Sunday at Lachine.

10

Trailer Park Boys (3-3)

Ah, the ups and downs of Flag Plus Football… after winning 3 in a row, the Trailer Park Boys have lost back-to-back games and find themselves with a .500 record at 3-3, with a strength-of-schedule very near the middle of the pack (opponents winning percentage is 51%). While the team’s defense is averaging 19 points against, which is decent, the offense isn’t scoring enough to help themselves, averaging 17.6 points a game. They face off next against the Fridge Raiders, where both teams have recently lost to Primetime. One of the teams, either TPB or the Raiders will be 4-3 after Saturday night in Brossard. Trailer Park Boys kick out Fridge Raiders from the last spot in the Power Rankings, but will they do the same in Week 7?

Division 5B

By Marc-Andre Desaulniers

1

South Side Speedsters

5

New Wave

8

Tuts and Parlays

5

The U

6

Pardon My Swag

7

Brotherhood Lite

Division 4B

By Corey Walwaski

1

BBallers (5-0)

The BBallers continue their dominance and have now score 50 points in their last 3 games. I don’t picture anybody beating them in the near future. The matchup I’m circling is their week 10 game against Backwood Boyz.

2

Les Gros Coqs (5-0)

I almost put Backwood Boyz in second place, until I realized that Les Gros Coqs beat them in both teams’ opening game of the season. Moving up from a lower division is always tough and it’s the reason why I keep having my doubts and they keep proving me wrong. They’ll stay at #2 until either they or BBallers lose.

3

Backwood Boyz (4-1)

They are probably the most athletic team in the group and their success will rest on the shoulders of Alessandro Barazzoni. As I mentioned earlier, their date with BBallers will tell us a lot – they don’t have an overly difficult schedule until then.

4

EZW (4-1)

They used to be the up and coming team of the division but now it feels like they’re the classy vet that has to deal with all of these young guns chomping at the bit. Don’t be fooled though, Jeremy White and his fantastic ability to drop his hips as he runs are still very relevant.

5

Mangoose (4-1)

Another dominant win keeps them in the top 5. They also have a relatively easy schedule until they play Backwood Boyz in their final game of the season which should mean that their record may close in on 8-2 when the dust settles.

6

Ballers (3-2)

Beating Takeover gets them my respect and a shot in my top 10. The middle of the pack in 4B is very cloudy and it may take another convincing win or two to stick around. Wins against Dream Chasers and a close game against Team Ethnik will help get them ready for the playoffs.

7

The Sheriff (4-2)

Finally seeming to find their form, they’ll be dangerous if they can find that perfect balance between talent and experience that they have.

8

Takeover (4-2)

Does their latest loss change how I see them? Yes. Will that impact them in the long run? Doubtful. They’re still one of the most talented teams in the division and I’m not worried about the regular season when it comes to this team.

9

Team Ethnik (3-2)

It’s not often that you put up 43 points and lose, but I’ve said before that the offense isn’t what’s wrong with this team.

10

FILP (2-3)

The only team with a losing record on this list, but they’ve lost to only teams above them. What does that mean? Who knows! They definitely have been competitive and while I don’t know how much higher they will get, you can learn a lot from a loss.

Division 4A

By Corey Walwaski

1

Bandit Bruthers (5-0)

Huge game between the top two teams on the list this week. Winner takes number 1 spot, simple as that.

2

The Infantry (6-0)

*Copy Paste* first comment here. Infantry are the class of the division regardless of the outcome on Saturday night in Lachine. Who the hell put Infantry, Bandit Bruthers and Les Verges Folles in the same Conference anyways!?

3

Les Verges Folles (5-0)

Outscoring opponents on average 36-20 will put you in a good spot to do some damage. Quiviger continues to play at a high level and no team has really come close against them. Their second half schedule gets a little bit tougher so we’ll see what they’re made of.

4

C2E (4-1)

I contemplated moving them down a spot or two, but ultimately they lost a close game to an elite team and they were missing one of their best players. One week doesn’t tell the story of a full season.

5

Chocolate Thunder (4-1)

There once was a time when Nikki Papich told me he wouldn’t play flag this season… well, he’s a big fat liar. Fast forward until now and he’s part of a trio of receivers that are tearing up Division 4. Joe Kano ain’t too shabby either.

6

The Tide (4-1)

Another impressive win against Super Saiyans, I don’t think enough people around the league are taking them seriously.

7

Outlaws (3-2)

How can you throw 28 touchdowns in 5 games and lose twice? They just made it work against C2E and have one of the best rosters on paper in the division. Combine that with Stephen Harripersaud’s skill and experience and you have a hell of a team.

8

Les Princes de la Rive Sud (3-2)

Huge game coming up with ChocolateThunder, I don’t know if they can come out with a victory. If they can, they’ll be a team to watch moving forward.

9

Eskimo Brothers (3-3)

They have had easily the toughest schedule to date and they’re still at .500. They’re a smart team that has the tools to succeed and if they continue to learn from their mistakes, they’ll be a force to be wreckoned with.

10

Half-A-Stars (2-3)

Andrew Langburt will make the appropriate adjustments needed for the playoffs. The fact that they are losing to some of the tougher teams will only help him game plan for when it matters. Plus, he has everything on film.

Division 4B

By Alex Blais

1

Bballers

7

The Sheriff

8

Class On Grass

Division 4A

By Alex Blais

1

Bandit Bruthers

4

The Infantry

6

The Tide

9

Don’t Mess With Texas

Division 3

By Brent Bodkin

1

KGP

Last Week: 1st – This Week: 1st – It wasn’t pretty, but they took care of a short-handed Backyard Bullies squad (24-20). Up next is a huge game of the week matchup tonight, against a Junkyard Dogs team, who just dropped 50 points on the Game Changers.

2

The BrotherHood

Last Week: 2nd – This Week: 2nd – Their suffocating defense was able to deliver once again, as they managed to hold their fifth opponent to under 20 points. Doing that against a Jagerbomb squad that averages nearly 26 points a game this Wednesday in Laval, won’t be easy, but The BrotherHood, has the horses to do it.

3

Keyport Lock

Last Week: 3rd – This Week: 3rd – Did Keyport Lock take their foot off the gas in the second half of their (25-18) victory against the Loups, or is the winless first year team improving? I think it’s a little bit of both. If Jeff Rosenblatt’s team delivers that type of performance this Monday versus Les Maloudes, Keyport, will be a lock to suffer their second loss in three weeks.

4

Trinity

Last Week: 7th – This Week: 4th – A huge (44-30) win over a stacked Sweat & Beers squad, sees Trinity jump three spots in the rankings. This team has a ton of talent, and is starting to find their chemistry at the right time. Up next, is a matchup against the struggling Backyard Bullies. Trinity, should keep on rolling.

5

Junkyard Dogs

Last Week: 4th – This Week: 5th – Getting hammered (41-15) by the previously one win Greendale Human Beings squad, will definitely see you fall in the rankings. Was the loss just a one off, or are they the signs of bigger problems for JYD? Their biggest test of the regular season takes place tonight, when they take on KGP. It looks like we will get the question answered shortly.

6

Pineapple Express

Last Week: 5th – This Week: 6th – The surprising one point loss (27-26) to the Dirty Dawgs, drops Pineapple Express, one spot in the rankings. Let’s see if they can shake off the loss this Monday, against an Easy Jake Oven team who needs to dust off a stinging defeat as well.

7

Martine et le Flag

Last Week: 6th – This Week: 7th – The third straight team on the list that is coming off of a loss, as they fell (32-31) to a one win All Hooks squad. Just two weeks ago, it would have been easy to say that Martine et le Flag, would just take out their frustrations on the Loups, but with the latter getting their first point of the season recently, and almost pulling off a colossal upset against Keyport Lock last Sunday, a guaranteed victory for MELF, is far from a given. Let’s see what happens.

8

Les Maloudes

Last Week: 9th – This Week: 8th – They came within a play of giving The BrotherHood, their first loss of the season. Saddled with arguably the toughest remaining schedule in Division 3, a victory over Keyport Lock this Monday, would see Les Maloudes, rise even further up the rankings.

9

BearSkins

Last Week: 8th – This Week: 9th – They were able to knock off the winless Lonzo Ballers (27-20), last Sunday at Loyola. Can the BearSkins, make it three wins in a row when they take on an All Hooks team, who are coming off of a big upset victory over Martine et le Flag? Stay tuned.

10

The Crew

Last Week: Not Ranked – This Week: 10th – The Crew absolutely smashed an undermanned The Commission squad (43-12) last Sunday in Lachine. As we saw last Winter, this team is fast and physical, and the approach has paid off once again, as they have won two in a row, and three out of their last four overall, which is good enough to put them on the list. With the exception of their Week 9 showdown against Les Maloudes, The Crew, finish with the easiest schedule in Div. 3, as they face La Brume, Lonzo Ballers, and Loups, who have combined for one win and two ties.

Division 2

By AJ Gomes

1

#NR

A clutch win vs Taco Tuesday keeps this undefeated power house in the #1 spot. The perfect season is in reach and a serious possibility as we approach week 7.

2

Taco Tuesday

They’re one of the three teams sitting at 4-2. They still hold the #2 spot despite back to back losses because they still have the lowest number of points against in the division. Let’s hope they can bounce back strong this week.

3

BYOB

This high powered offence has put up the second most points in the division. An upset loss to Terror Squad last game makes it tough to determine what the rest of the season will look like for them but they’re in a perfect spot to regain some confidence this week vs a strguggling Killa Bees team.

4

Bad Boys

The last team sitting at 4-2. They would be sitting easy in the #2 spot at 5-1 if they didn’t suffer an unfortunate loss to a much lesser opponent last game. Bad Boys failed to get the job done against Les Studs and will need to pick it up if they don’t want to take another drop in the standings and power rankings. They will have their hands full when they face #NR this week but you can count on them to be up for the challenge.

5

The Underacheivers 2.0

They have a pattern of losing, winning, losing, winning, etc.. So by that logic, this weekend should be an L but I forsee them breaking that curse and securing their first back to back win of the year. For the time being they’ll sit comfortably in the middle of the pack.

6

Terror Squad

A huge win over BYOB is exactly the spark they needed. The upset win put an end to their three game losing streak and also put them back on track. Fun fact: Terror Squad has the exact same amount of points for as they have points against (147-147).

7

Les Studs

After losing to one of the worst teams in the division, they went and beat one of the best teams in the division. That’s a perfect example of the team they’ve been this season. Another big upset win this week vs Taco Tuesday would be a season changer for them. Let’s see what kind of team shows up this week.

Division 1

By AJ Gomes

1

Braves

The rematch win vs YCSWU proved that their first and only loss was just a fluke and a result of them being without Jonathan Maheu. They sit on top of the standings and I’m eager to see if they will be beaten again this season. Probably not.

2

YCSWU

They have the second most points for and the second most points against. Adjustments need to be made if they want the rematch win vs one of the two teams that beat them this season.

3

Da Finest

They’re coming off a nail biter win which certainly helped restore some confidence but they have a tough test ahead vs Braves this week. Kevin Wyeth was nearly perfect in his last outing going 18/23 but will need to be even better this game vs the division’s best team.

4

Got-Skills

Back to back losses has them in a tight situation. They will need a second win against YCSWU this week if they want to keep their head above water. Let’s see if Tam will be a menace again this time.

5

STL

Back to back wins has them feeling good. They climbed out of the bottom spot and will be looking to keep the same energy going into this week’s matchup vs Flag Moi.

6

Flag Moi L’Sac

They find themselves in last place after three staright losses. They also have the most points allowed in the division. They can and will be better but will it be before it’s too late?

Sunday’s Simmering Seabass

Super Sunday is here and we have less games than usual.  That said, for the few that are playing this week! Best of luck!!! For those who have any thoughts, commentary or complaints, I am very easy to find.  I’m @peezefpf on twitter and Peeze Della Reeze on most other forms of social media.  You can also take a chance by emailing me at [email protected] and if it happens to be one of the two weeks per season that I check that email I will surely answer!

Remember that each week you can join the party on Facebook live or at www.youtube.com/flagplus on our weekly podcast: Calling the Audible.  The show starts each week at 7:30 pm and we discuss topics such as the the the best meals to consume whilst on the run, who’s Valentine’s day was the loneliest and which hair styles are the most out of date!  Till next week, I want to thank you falettineme be mice elf agin!
