Week 3’s Power Rankings/Week 4’s Picks

Peeze’s Playbook Week 3

We’re a little short on time this week so I’ll just head right into the content.  More insane ramblings to come next weekend.

Power Rankings

There is a little bit of a shake up as Marc Andre Desaulniers and Simon Dagenais took the opportunity to go on undeserved vacations.  AS such I hopped in and Iggy did some double duty to make sure all the divisions were covered.  Here’s the hottest teams in each division.

Division 6/6D

By Ignacio Valdez-Manzanedo

1

Trojans (3-0)

Well, I asked last week, which team would be the one to strike down the Trojans in the coming weeks. At the end of week 3, no one’s claimed that title yet but we’ve got some teams climbing the rankings, and coming up fast. But for now, with the way Fafard is executing on the deep ball, and the way he’s running all over defences (leading 6D in rushing yards and rushing TD’s with 186 yards on the ground and 4 scores) and averaging a first down per run, it’s a dangerous combo that 3 teams so far have not been able to stop. Looking at their schedule, unless they hit bump in the road, this team is going 10-0 this season. That doesn’t mean they won’t get knocked out of their #1 spot in the Power Rankings though, as their schedule is softer than what other teams have to play against, so if your a team right below the Trojans, keeping working and let your play convince me! For now, the Trojans stay at #1 for a 3rd week in a row.

7th Rounders (3-0)

Unbelievable! 3 Shutouts in a row. I don’t recall having seen this in FPF in the past 3 years; this is just insane! I realize it comes against the weakest of competitions, but I’ve played in games like these, and opponents have managed to put up at least 1 score on the board. It truly is hard to post a shutout in a game and league built for offense, but to do it in back-to-back-to-back games is ludicrous. The defense is next level, having gotten 4 pick 6’s in their last 2 games. Olivier Dufour and Jafar Hassan have been the major contributors to their team’s success, and are in a battle for the most INT’s and TD’s on their team. Both have 100+ receiving yards, but Dufour has the edge in TD’s (3) to Hassan’s 2, and Jafar has the lead in INT’s (3) to Dufour’s 2. If I had to critique this team in one area, it would have to be at the QB position. Even though they obviously have less possessions to work with, I don’t like Vocino’s 36.4% completion percentage. I’ll give him a pass on only throwing 4 TD’s since the offense has less drives when your D scores pick 6’s, but get in a closer game and the 36% completion percentage doesn’t translate into first downs nor touchdowns. A small asterisk to consider in future games in an otherwise perfect (3-0) season so far. 7th Rounders rise 3 spots from last week to claim the #2 spot.

What Could Have Beens (3-0)

We might have another Air Force 1/Bballers in the making in 6D with What Could Have Been’s. This is a reference to a new team sliding in 6D for a lack of a prior knowledge/historical data, and dominating their competition. This is why FPF has implemented the reshuffling of playoff teams (see Peeze’s article released on Friday 1/24 on the Division 6/6D split: (https://www.flagplusfootball.com/en/news/2371), a particularity only seen in 6/6D. Sean Brown and his offense scored their lowest output this week, and that was 30 points! WR Regis Kodua absolutely went off this week, putting up these monster stats on offense: 7/187/3 TD’s to go along with 4 tackles and 1 INT. Defensively, this team has been as good as any with 8 INT stats and averaging 13.3 points against a game. They’ve yet to play a strong team, but even then, I say they are more than capable of keeping up with the Trojans and Tropic Thunder’s of this division. They continue to climb the charts, up 1 spot from last week.

4

Les Studz (3-0)

Les Studz do, unfortunately, drop a spot, but not because of their own play, but rather the continued dominance of 7th Rounders and WCHB’s in week 3. Les Studz have the #2 defence, only allowing 25 points in 3 games and are tied for 3rd in offense, having surpassed the 100 points mark already. I will continue to mention it, but they do have a weaker schedule than most, and face their first test only until week 8 of the season vs. The Replacements. Despite the weaker schedule, you still have to win your games, and they have performed admirably, posting a shutout against Goon Squads in week 3. They also are tied with Tropic Thunder for 1st with 11 INT’s on defense, as 4 players have 2 INT’s to their name, and have returned 4 of their 11 interceptions for touchdowns. That’s scary for an offense to go up against. They land at #4 this week.

5

Tropic Thunder (3-0)

Despite winning in week 3 matchup 31-19 over BDR, the reason Tropic Thunder drop 3 spots is much the same as why Les Studz drop a spot: teams above them performing at a high level. To be honest, I’m a little surprised Tropic Thunder let up 19 points to BDR, but it’s possible my expectations of BDR are influenced from past seasons. BDR did add the 6’5 Free-Agent Tristan Weiss from the FPF combine onto their team, so the offensive punch may have been supplied there. While I have praised QB Tyler Grondin’s play 2 weeks into the season, his interception numbers have started to go up, and is now casting a 2:1 TD-INT ratio which needs to go up more in the 3.5:1, 4:1 range for his team to remain a contender. As long as the defense can continue picking off opposing quarterbacks as frequently as they have (T-1st with 11 INT’s), then this team will be fine. But those kinds of turnover numbers are definitely hard to sustain, hence why Grondin’s ratio needs to improve. For these reasons, TT slide down this week, but remain a top 5 ranked team.

6

Inglorious Basterds (3-0)

Inglorious Basterds don’t seem to mind which quarterback lines up behind center, as they’ve rotated 3 quarterbacks in 3 games, and have come out victorious each time. Not only is the rotation at the quarterback position, but no one on the team has played all of their games yet. Despite that, they have a clear #1 receiver in A.J Titleman, leading the team in yards (126) and TD’s (3) in 2 games played. Hopefully the lineup can find some consistency as the season develops, because come playoff time, you want to have developed some chemistry between QB and WR’s (learning when players make their cuts, speed at which routes are run, etc.). They’ve got a matchup coming up against 89.9ers which should be a 4th victory, but have a tough test in week 6 against Trojans. Time to see how well FPF Jr. has trained you against the #1 Power Ranked team. For the reasons mentioned, I thin its fair they stay put at #6 for a 3rd week in a row.

7

Stiffy Arm (2-1)

After dropping a game to Trojans in week 2, Stiffy Arm got back in the win column with a convincing win over Killer Rays. Adamo Colella racked up 212 yards and threw 4 TD’s en route to a 26-6 win. Colella has relied most heavily on Ryan Castiel and Alex Evangelidis, and that’s more than okay, they are their best weapons on offense. Defensively, Nic Corbo has racked up 6 sacks, and minus the Trojans game, have allowed all but 13 points. This team is projected to make the playoffs and can possibly pull off an upset against a higher-ranked 6D team.

The Replacements (2-1)

Hmmm… week 3 against Lionhearts is a game I fully expected The Replacements to win, after putting up 86 points in 2 weeks combined. Sorry, but this is exactly why I didn’t raise them in the Power Rankings as high as what their record and Points For indicated. I know it seems weird that they get placed higher than a team that just beat them, but I think if there’s a re-match down the line in the playoffs, that The Replacements are capable of winning that playoff game. Overall, Frank Teoli-Colatrella is having a career year, averaging just under 200 yards and 5 TD’s a game, and has the two receivers leading the division in TD’s with 6 – Robert Di Ielsi and Nim Jenikovszky. Not only that, Di Ielsi is tied for 1st in receiving yards with 229 and Nim is not far behind, in 4th with 176 yards. These 3 will have to stay hot against the new kids on the block, What Could Have Beens, in their week 4 matchup, Wednesday at Baie D’Urfe. As was the case when they went 2-0 and didn’t rise too fast in the Power Rankings, the setback vs. Lionhearts doesn’t drop them that far down either and switch spots with Stiffy Arm.

Zone 6 Ballers (2-1)

Zone 6 Ballers will be an interesting team to follow this year. Looking at their schedule, I actually think they can pull off a 7-3 record, but I don’t think it’s as strong a 7-3 team as I have seen in the past in 6D (I think of strong teams like Vultures and the Sunday Touch Boys from Winter 2018 who both went 7-3). That being said, I think it’s a great schedule for Jeansley Valbonard to improve his reads, playcalling and precision throwing the ball. So far, the QB stats don’t look good, averaging just 5 completions a game, 64 yards and completing 35% of his passes. Their offensive gameplan can get predictable, as he has 8 TD’s on 15 completions and has 124 rushing yards. It isn’t my intention to reveal gameplans against the whole division… but put 2+2 together and it’s time for Jeansley to work on his precision and short game. He’s got a great receiver in Matthew Valente who’s a big body with good hands, time to feed him the rock! After dropping out of the Power Rankings last week, Z6B’s make it back in at #9.

Lionhearts (2-1)

Lionhearts get the huge win against The Replacements to bring their record to 2-1. I think it’s time to put away the mental impression past season’s have left on me; the team can score now! It’s nice to see returning players improving and stepping up their game, like Alex Montanaro and Gino Di Pietro. Montanaro is on pace to have a career year, posting 61 yards and a TD in 3 games and has 4 INT’s on defence; the first 4 of his FPF career (3 seasons). For Di Pietro, he already has a career high in receiving yards and TD’s in a single season with 117 yards and 3 TD’s. They also seeked assistance from the Free Agency pool, where Joe Morgese has been a huge addition to this team, matching Montanaro’s 4 INT’s with 4 of his own (2 of which have gone back for a score). Lionhearts round out the Power Rankings for 6D, after having fallen out of the Top 10 in week 2.

Division 6

1

Masters of Coin (2-0-1)

Masters of Coin are the first team to knock off Suicide Squad from the #1 spot, after MOC beat their opponents in week 3 in convincing fashion by putting up 47 points. Max Dayan has looked to prove that he can fill in just fine for Mitch Fergenbaum, and so far, he’s done so steadily, improving his passing yards and lowering his interception totals in each game he’s played so far. This past game, his best, saw him throw for 160 and 5 TD’s, with another 42 yards on the ground and a rushing score…oh, and don’t forget his INT in the redzone, to top off a fantastic game for him and his team. Even with Benji as a clear #1 receiver, Dayan is spreading the ball well amongst all the weapons he has on offense. On defence, 6 different players already have interceptions and Zik Sigler is one of the faster rushers in the divisions. Now the question is, how long can they stay at #1?

2

Suicide Squad (3-0)

Suicide Squad slide down 1 spot from #1 probably purely out of my expectations for this stacked team. I expected them to finish their game against MACDO with a higher spread, expected Noel to throw for over 100 yards, and expected 1, if any, sacks against Noel, all of which did not happen. Instead, it was a 7-point game, Noel threw for 87 yards, and got sacked a shocking 4 times, including a safety. Of course, if you ask Suicide Squad, they will answer back (and rightfully so) that MACDO scored a garbage time TD when the were already down 2 scores, that Noel threw for 4 TD’s on 22 attempts, completing 77% of his passes, and that the sack came so late in the game, it truly had no impact. Those points are all accurate and true, and they also are the team with the greatest contributions amongst all players on their team. They have 10 receivers with at least 1 catch, 9 of which have a TD (that’s crazy!!), 5 different players with at least 1 sack, and 8 players with a PD… Talk about a ball hawk team! Despite all the good, I expected a little more vs. MACDO, and since it’s a week-to-week Power Ranking, well, they slide 1 spot.

Winnie Tha Bish (2-0-1)

Winnie Tha Bish also slip 1 spot due to Masters of Coin taking rising 2 spots, but they take care of Stop Whining by 19 points in week 3. Andrew Di Miele has been a great compliment piece to Joey Taylor, contributing with 3 TD’s and 2 INT’s so far. I still think that Danny McFee has a high potential, so I want to see him perform better than the 9 passing TD’s he’s put up in 3 games. Still, I said it last week, and I’ll say it all year, until someone beats this team and the Joey Taylor offense.

Average Joe’s (3-0)

My team is showing some great promise overall, especially in the first half of games. We’ve come out strong in the past 2 games, having been up 20-6 and 18-6 while starting the game on defense. It’s been the 2nd half where I would like to see us take control of games, and we haven’t. I still like our ball distribution on attack, as evidenced by having 5 receivers with 64+ yards. On defence, adding Andel Thomas-Gordon to this team was a big free-agent acquisition, in terms of talent, leadership, and knowledge. Last Winter, the Joe’s gave up the 5th most points in Div 6, averaging 25.7 points against per game whereas this year, we’re tied for the 4th least amount of points allowed, averaging 12.7 points against a game. All that being said, I put us at the status quo; #4 for the 3rd week in a row.

Pension Plan (3-0)

Pension Plan keep coming out on top in their close games, which bodes well for their inevitable playoff run, which are always close games. We’re still in January, so March and April are still far away from now, but getting comfortable in these close games is great early-season experience that hopefully they can look back on for confidence. Not sure if Vince Pisano got hurt, but curious to see Justin Fraraccio throwing 8 passes this past week. That would not be good if Pisano were to miss time, but I don’t want to speculate, because that’s 100% what I would be doing.

Trapstars (2-1)

After losing by a single point to Kings of the North in week 1, Trapstars have grabbed all the attention and headlines with names like Ryan Garber and Cooper Young absolutely killing the competition and putting up monster numbers. At QB, Garber has completed 30 passes for 334 yards and 12 TD’s, while Young has caught half of Garber’s completions (15) for an insane 233 yards and 8 TD’s. I can’t recall any 2-week stretch in Div 6 as dominant as what Young has done in weeks 2 and 3. Let’s see how the dynamic duo can perform against the Average Joe’s defense in a great matchup 10pm on Monday in Saint-Laurent. Their hot play as of late has them moving up 3 spots from last week.

Kings of the North (2-1)

Although they suffered their first loss of the season in week 3, Kings of the North showed resilience in that game, getting some key stops and scoring when they had to in order to get back in their game vs. Average Joe’s. They have a very strong defence, starting with Marc-Andre Blais rushing the quarterback, and have the height and range in players like Sean Thomas-Furlong, Kevin Desjardins, Jeremie Gladu and Ostiguy. Their offense can use another playmaker, as the offense tends to get a little predictable. That being said, with a strong defence, most of their games will be within their reach and for that reason, reminding me of a team like Trailer Park Boys.

Trailer Park Boys (2-1)

Trailer Park Boys have now won 2 in a row and move up 2 spots in the rankings after holding the #10 spot in weeks 1 and 2. Their defense once again came to play, keeping Adrian Lortie under 75 passing yards, and picked him off 3 times while allowing only a single score. I highlighted the Meunier WR brothers last week in the Power Rankings, but they got a huge contribution from secondary players this week in Phil Ramsey, who put up 4/51/2 TD’s on offense and recorded 3 tackles and 1 INT on defense. When Antoine Meunier can protect the ball like he did this past week, and not throw a pick, this can be a tough team to beat. So far, they look like they are putting together a season that leads them in the 5-6 spot I envisioned for them.

Primetime (2-1)

Primetime get their first crack in the Power Rankings and fill in the #8 spot this week. They, like TPB’s, have also won their last 2 games. I was able to see Primetime for the first time this season in their scoring fest vs. Stack Your Roster. Every time Emile Janda’s would score and try to spark a comeback for his team, I saw Primetime quarterback, Nick Richard answer the bell and match their score (and then celebrate with an air guitar move that he seemingly loves). He also had a crazy run where he probably ran 83 yards in total, 53 laterally, and 23 down the field that had the Stack Your Roster rusher huffing and puffing down the field. He definitely impressive to watch, and is now 5th in passing yards and 4th in rushing yards, so definitely a dual threat quarterback. He’s also helped make Zack Stacey the #2 receiver in yards, behind the aforementioned Cooper Young. I like the team’s offense, but the defence is still a question mark for me, so they get the #9 spot. Welcome to the Power Rankings, Primetime!

The Potatoes (2-1)

After dropping out of the Power Rankings in week 2, The Potatoes are back in to round out this week’s Div 6 Power Rankings after a great victory 26-6 over Tankin’ for Tua who tanked out of the Power Rankings this week. Led by JJ Cosentini with a statline of 4/48/1 and adding 2 tackles and 2 INT’s on D, he’s led his team to a 2-1 record. Lamothe needs to complete more of his passes, currently sitting with a completion percentage 44% for this offence to drive the field more often and score more points. They are however, the #3 defence with 34 points against and looks like they will do more of the same in week 4 vs. Stop Whining.

Division 5B

By Ignacio Valdez-Manzanedo

Division 5B

1

South Side Speedster (3-0)

The South Side Speedsters have the 2nd highest +/- differential in 5B with +69 and 2 of the most dominant and dynamic brother duos in the division in Dawson and Nicolas-Emmanuel Pierre. The two have combined for a ridiculous 7 INT’s, 8 receiving TD’s and 229 yards. Not only that, they are both physically imposing football players and can box you out and Moss you all day long. They aren’t the only pieces on offense though, as all their receivers have caught a TD, and Ben Reid has yet to throw an interception in 3 games which is remarkable. When needed, Reid has the awareness to escape the pocket, tuck it and explode for a big run when he feels the safe throw isn’t there. The team is firing on all cylinders, which bodes well for their next matchup against the Warriors, Wednesday night at Hebert. I have them repeating where Marc-Andre left them, atop the rankings at #1.

2

Leftovers (3-0)

Leftovers rise 4 spots from last week’s rankings written by Marc-Andre Desaulniers. Emilio Cecere has been on a tear this year, catching 9 balls for 171 yards and 2 TD’s in only 2 games as a WR. In his third game, all he did was replace brother Joseph Cecere at QB in week 2 and throw for 5 TD’s. Combined, the Cecere brothers have thrown 13 TD’s and a single interception. This is yet another dynamic brother duo in division 5B that is looking to challenge the Pierre brothers and the Bellini brother’s (Honey Martin), that are looking to lead their teams to the perfect 10-0 season. So far, all 3 teams are 3-0, but it is certain that not all 3 will be by season’s end, as the Leftovers face Honey Martin week 9 of the season. On defence, they are lead by rusher Anthony Palombo, who for his size, has deceiving speed, and has sacked opposing quarterbacks 3 times so far this season. They beat a very good Broke Boys team in week 3, and look to move to 4-0 as they face the Gryphons in week 4.

3

Honey Martin (3-0)

I actually play on this team, so I look to write an unbiased comment on our season so far. Quarterback Dave Roaldi is on a mission this season. His in-game focus is 2nd to none, and is leading the division in Passing yards, Passing TD’s, Completion %, tied for first in Rushing TD’s, and has put up a division-high 114 points on offense, with a nasty 131.1 QB rating. This team’s balance on attack is one of its strengths, as 4 different receivers have 3+ TD’s and 96+ yards; the majority coming from the Bellini brothers, Mark and Enzo, combining for 320 yards and 7 TD’s. Snapper Jason Hervieux has the height and speed to be a great offensive and defensive weapon, as shown with his division-leading 107 yards in week 3. After going 8-1-1 in 5B last Winter, but coming up short in the playoffs, the team is looking to go on their longest playoff run as a franchise, and now have the confidence to do it. Defensively, Damien Jean-Jacques and Donald Mathurin are leaders on defense, Mark Bellini is contributing with timely sacks (3) and Francis Turpin with opportune interceptions (2). The team has let up 89 points of defense, so if there’s something to work on and critique, it’s definitely on the defensive side. The team has to have a greater focus on allowing less scores and bring down the average of 30 points a game we currently own.

4

New Wave (3-0)

New Wave have a stellar defence, allowing a simple 8.7 points a game. Gianni Johnston is 4th in the division with his 6 sacks and 3 PD’s, constantly pressuring quarterbacks into errant throws and ending opposing offense’s drives earlier than they expect. On offense, Nicholas Gorenc and Dylan Cernik are leading the way with the following WR statlines: 10/172/5 and 7/118/4, respectively. Jared Gallant is a tall QB who’s playbook and quality decision-making has him handing the 1st down bags to refs fairly often, whether its by air or ground. They are averaging 23 points a game, and according to the Peeze adage of “You gotta score at least 30 points to win a playoff game”, they could use that extra score to give themselves a greater cushion in their games. They’ve got Threat Level Midnight coming up in week 4, which by no means is an easy matchup, and may very well need to put up 30+ to win it.

Air Force 1 (2-0-1)

Air Force 1 get their first convincing win of the season, 20-6 over the Gryphons, after a 1-point victory over Team Y.S and a tie against Johnny Fireball. The poised and highly accurate Simon Blais at QB is where this offense starts and stops. Then give this pivot the multiple weapons on offense that he is very comfortable throwing to, and you get a seriously balanced attacked, including their own brother duo, Chris and David Van Oordt who both lead their team with 3 TD’s. With them and free agent additions Alex David and Phil Angers, Blais is more than confident in this offense and the team can win football games in different ways, whether the game is an offensive shootout or a defensive battle, Blais and company can work the short game as much as the intermediate and deep ball. They’ve got a date against a hungry Clinkers team in week 4 that got a taste of victory with their first win of the season last week and will look to take down AF1. I think AF1 will have something to say about that.

Tuts and Parlays (3-0)

With Borova, Morgese, and Mangione at WR, they have 3 quality WR’s that have respectively, the following receiving stat lines: 5/112/4, 13/169/6 and 14/165/3. Each have eclipsed 100 yards and have a minimum 3 TD’s. In fact, all their offensive TD’s have come through this 3 headed monster, including an incredible performance in week 2 by Joe Morgese, who caught FIVE (read that again, FIVE) Touchdown passes against Holy Trollers. In what looks to be Anthony Lazzara’s first full season at QB, he’s done a stellar job leading his troops on offense, averaging 171 yards in passing and 4 TD’s per game. Not a knock against them, but Tuts and Parlays schedule is a little lighter than other teams, but I’m a believer that any given week in FPF, if you don’t show up ready to play, your opponent can surprise you and pull out a big win. That being said, Tuts have gone out and won the games decisively, so good on them for executing regardless the opponent.

Los Banditos (2-1)

Los Banditos put on a whipping show in their week 3 matchup against the Thundercats, ending the game with a shutout and putting up 40 points on the board. While Francis Desrochers was nearly perfect in the game (5 TD’s, 1 INT) and was deadly with the deep ball, it was his defense that truly shined in this game. The Thundercats actually would drive down the field, but Xavier Tardif turned the ball over 2 or 3 times in the redzone, ending the game with 5 INT’s, against a stingy Banditos defense. With the ball often in his hands, Desrochers simply had to execute his drives, and did so, again, nearly perfectly. Loic Savoiz-Seguin is known for his defensive prowess, but is making key contributions on offense, putting up similar numbers to Vincent Benjamin. Anytime you can say that someone is putting up similar number to Vincent Benjamin, that is always a good thing. Being able to have both Vincent Benjamin and Jeremie Gauthier on the team makes all the difference from the past Fall Cup. If they don’t end up as a top seed by season’s end, then they will end up in the middle of the pack and become a dark horse team to go deep in the playoffs, as they have the roster to knock out a top team.

Johnny Fireball (2-0-1)

Johnny Fireball has come out hot, still not having a lost a game. They’ve also played 3 great opponents in Broke Boys (W), AF1 (Tie) and Green Monster 2.0 (W), so their 2-0-1 record is definitely not the result from playing weaker competition. QB Edouard Leroux is growing as a leader before our eyes, having accumulated valuable experience from 2 regular seasons in Co-Ed and an FPF cup tournament this past fall. He is on pace for career high in TD’s and passing yards and a career low in INT’s thrown. He’s still using his legs as this is part of his skill set, but I feel he is more in control of the passing game than last Fall. Instead of looking to run on every 2nd play, he’s looking pass first, and using his legs only after he’s made his reads and they aren’t open. It’s great to see his play develop and improve in such a short amount of time. Helping him out most at the WR post is Guillaume St. Jean, leading the team with 15 receptions for 167 yards and 4 scores. Up next for them is another tough test in the pass-heavy offense of Chocolate Barracudas. The Fireball defense has got to be ready and will want to exact revenge from a 32-22 loss to Chocolate Barracudas in last Fall’s Semi-Finals.

Holy Trollers (2-1)

The Holy Trollers make it back into the Power Rankings after falling out in week 2’s edition. Max Rosenfeld has spread the ball beautifully and is lucky to have big targets with good hands in both Kevin “Neckdana” Kousaie and Max Sadori. The size this team possesses, alone, makes them a difficult matchup for opposing offenses to attack their Defense and for opposing defenses to stop them on offense. Mix that with their actual abilities, and they become a very tough matchup for any team, as the Warriors found out this past week. Looking at the team’s schedule, it looks like their on track for a 7-3 record, which would easily qualify them for the playoffs.

It really is hard to pick only 10 teams with so much talent in the division. This spot could have gone to many teams, but this week it goes to Threat Level Midnight. Making their first appearance in the 5B Power Rankings, it’s about time they make it, as they won the Tier 3 Championship in FPF’s Fall Cup. It’s hard to ignore the team with the #3 offense, putting up 103 points so far, and the #2 defence, allowing a measly 30 points. Ignoring that, and their week 3 performance, against Wack Attack, a 37-0 shutout victor, would have been a bad decision to pass over. Jo Lemieux is having quite the season so far, boasting a 117.7 QB rating, is T-2nd in passing yards, is 2nd in TD’s and 2nd in completion %. TLM, like many of these teams listed here, have the balance on offense to compete with any team. Amongst their top 5 receivers, the lowest has 86 yards and 2 TD’s. I’m sure many teams would take that as their #5 receiver any day of the week. With speedy threats down the field in Antoine Baril and Alex Girard, mixed in with big bodies like JD Joly, Simon Richard and Alex Guertin, this team can play any style of offense and can dictate a game’s flow. That speed and size combo is also highlighted on defense, as Baril is tied for 2nd in the division with 7 sacks and JD Joly’s tall presence has seen him pick off quarterbacks twice to Girard’s 5 INT’s. As previously mentioned, this team has already completed a playoff run, although it was a smaller run (2 games) than what a regular Spring/Winter season demands (4 wins) due to the Fall Cup format. Still, the playoff experience and title win is sure to build team confidence and chemistry like nothing else. For those reasons, Threat Level Midnight rounds out this week’s Power Rankings for 5B and look to climb the rankings in the weeks to come.

Division 5A

By Paolo Della Rocca

1

Bruins (3-0)

The Bruins have yet to allow more than three scores in a game. They face the ahtletic Unknown Talent in their week 4 matchup. Let’s see if their defense holds up against a team that is quicker than they are.

2

Unknown Talent (2-1)

Rakim Charles has only 8 incomplete passes in two games. They are quick and can break the game open on a single play. this week’s matchup shpuld have been spotlighted as GOTW. If you happen to be at Hebert at 11pm on Sunday I recommend you give the game a look!

3

The U (3-0)

Two of the wins are by less than three points. However, they are beating the teams before them. In case you haven’t heard, Josh White is pretty good. He has 5 TDs in three games so far.

4

MTLoud (2-1)

MTLoud’s only loss came in week one of the season. Since then they have scored 40 and 47 points. To top it off Xavier Tremblay has yet to throw an interception. MTLoud are an unknwon quantity but they are starting to make a name for themselves.

5

Brotherhood Lite (2-0-1)

Last week’s game ended in a 26-26 tie but I do like how the team is built. Morveover, given that the tie was against an otherwise unbeaten team and in a game where Quaysie Gordon Maule was able to move the ball I do like how things are looking up for Brothood Lite.

6

GLC (2-0-1)

GLC have an impressive resume so far. Had they earned one more point against Brotherhood Lite they may be the hottest team in the division. Kevin Lubin’s 4 touchdowns and three intereptions thus far wouls lead one to believe that L-Lube is BACK!

7

Spartans

Spartans loss by a single point came to GLC. I don’t want to overreact especillay since the team was without Charles David Martel. Spartans are talented and I expect them to climb this list before season’s end.

8

Ice Up (2-1)

I love the roster construction and other than a week 2 loss to Spartans, Ice Up have been on fire.Eric Paquette is not the most known player on the roster but his 16.6 yards per catch is worth noticing. He’s responsible of about 30% of the team’s receiving yardage.

9

Voodoo (2-0-1)

Frank Kaye and DEM BOYS have put up at least 6 points in each games. When they scored their lowest outut during the season they’ve tied the game. The defense is somewhat of a concer but man can they score!

10

Pardon My Swag (2-1)

The team has only one game played from stud receiver Troy Lendvay. Given that, their 2-1 record is impressive. I think Brad Evans can better use weapons such as Craig Browning and Kyle McGuigan bu once everyone on the roster refines their role PMS may be a blopdy mess to deal with!

Division 4B

by Corey Walwaski

1

BBallers (3-0)

130 points in 3 games and they have played against 2 of the teams on this list. They’re really making the case that they should have been in 4A and seem to be running away with this division so far. They remind me a lot of the Alpha T’s when they first joined the league.

2

Team Ethnik (3-0)

Benoit Lawlor looks just like the gunslinger we all know and love and already has 18 touchdowns in 3 games, unreal. If he can limit the turnovers that let his opponents stay in the game, it’ll be tough to dethrone these guys.

3

Takeover (2-1)

A veteran team with a lot of talent, the sky is the limit for them. I’m a little bit surprised by their recent loss – while Mangoose are talented, Takeover’s D looked like swiss cheese. They’ll need to fix that side of the ball a little bit but other than that, I’m not worried.

4

Les Gros Coqs (3-0)

I’ve been impressed with these guys this season and their top players have been performing well. They have a ton of chemistry together and they have a lot of fun on the field. Their schedule gets a little bit tougher so we’ll see if they can stick around the top of the power rankings.

5

ZT’s (2-1)

Philip Pelletier is having an excellent start to the season and has yet to turn the ball over. This relatively new team is making a splash and they have tons of talent.

6

EZW (2-1)

Two back to back convincing victories and their only loss coming against my top team, they won’t have much to worry about until their next rematch against BBallers. They’re easily one of the most exciting teams to watch this season.

7

Backwood Boyz (2-1)

With two straight wins against The Sheriff and Freshmen, this new and improved Unknown Talent team is hoping to make noise in 4B. Barazzoni needs to stay consistent when throwing the ball and not rely too much on his legs to take this team to the next level. Overall, though, they are stacked from top to bottom.

8

FILP (2-1)

Beating up on a much less equipped team doesn’t really bring you too far up the ranks and they will still have to get over their loss to Mangoose, but I think they’re the superior team. We’ll have to see if I’m right.

9

The Sheriff (2-1)

With a loss against Backwood Boyz, it wouldn’t be right to put them higher in the standings. That said, they can beat any of the teams above them and they are dangerous every week so as long as Luis Begin stays healthy. Is that getting old? Nah.

10

Mangoose (2-1)

Tons of talent on this roster and a few impressive wins, but I’m still not convinced. I wouldn’t be shocked if they surprise a few teams though with the potential to make a splash come playoff time.

Division 4A

by Corey Walwaski

1

Bandit Bruthers (3-0)

I think both The Infantry and us have February 15th circled on the calendar to see which team comes out on top. For us, we have an extremely tough schedule from here on out and will look to continue to improve.

2

The Infantry (3-0)

These guys were already a top team in the division without any weaknesses on the field and they look to have just added Jordan Edwards who has made an immediate impact, taking some of the attention away from Rory and Dilan. These guys are the real deal.

3

Les Verges Folles (3-0)

I’ve been impressed with Quiviger since I first played him and he always manages to put together a solid team with a ton of athletes. Why did Division A seem to get all of the good teams?

4

Half-A-Stars (1-2)

This might be a bold choice, but the way I see it, they won’t lose to any of the teams below them on this list now that they have Ariel Librati in the lineup. He really completes this team and allows them to cover anybody out there. Games against Outlaws and a few others will be a huge test for them to ensure they get into the playoffs.

5

C2E (3-0)

They have a complete team and a quarterback playing well, the question that’s been raised is if they can keep this up. I think that this is a solid regular season team that may falter in the playoffs.

6

Outlaws (2-1)

The weapons to compete with anybody and one of the best quarterbacks in the division, they’ll be moving up this list in no time. The only reason they are so low is due to their slower start than usual, but don’t be overlooking these guys.

7

Chocolate Thunder (2-1)

Was that lightning? A camera flash? No, that was probably Nikki Papich or Tim Horner blowing by you in that bright yellow shirt. Joe Kano has dominated lower divisions in the past, can he win the big one in Division 4?

8

The Tide (2-1)

A great group of guys that I had the pleasure of scorekeeping on Wednesday night, they are a competitive group led by Doug McKernan and Brent Callender who is the pulse for this team. As I’ve said before, they’re the gritty team that always produces that nobody wants to play.

9

Eskimo Brothers (2-1)

With higher division experience all around, nobody should take these guys lightly. Shawn Steen and Chris Cione make for a great 1-2 punch that can handle any opponent in their way.

10

Dream Breakers (2-1)

They struggled this week and just didn’t seem to have their rhythm maybe because they aren’t so used to playing on the big field in Laval? Either way, Jasmin Prince and Sebastien Dallaire weren’t on the same page and they didn’t look like themselves. They should bounce back quickly, though.

Division 4A/4B

by Alexandre Blais

Division 4A

1

The Infantry

5

The Tide

7

The Sheriff

9

Class On Grass

Division 3

By Brent Bodkin

1

Keyport Lock – Last Week: 2

A loss to an up and coming Martine et le Flag team, doesn’t drop Keyport Lock in the standings, buy it does make their hold on the number two spot a little tenuous, especially with a tough matchup against The Crew, looming Sunday night at Loyola. Was Keyport Lock’s loss just a small blip on the radar, or the first side of real trouble?

2

The BrotherHood – Last Week: 4

The only team in the top five to get a win last week, via a (32-13) victory over their former backup Quarterback Lonnie Johnson, and his new team Lonzo Ballers. The return of the teams top Wide Receiver Jamal Gittens, has not only sparked the team’s offense, but it has given The BrotherHood, another big play target in the passing game that was lacking outside of Quaysie Gordon-Maule.

3

Pineapple Express -Last Week:6

After a horrible performance last week that saw their only score come via safety, Pineapple Express, woke up on that side of the ball versus a short-handed Backyard Bullies squad, and exploded for a season-high 34 points, curtesy of AJ Gomes, who had three touchdowns. Up next for PE, is a first round playoff rematch from the Spring Season, against a Past Our Prime group, who are deeper than what they were the last time these two teams met.

4

BearSkins – Last Week: 3

Last year’s Division 3 champs looked like Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, to The Crew’s Conor McGregor, last Sunday at Loyola, as the BearSkins, got snashed (32-6), in arguably the biggest shocker of Week 3. Unfortunately for tje the BearSkins, the schedule does.them no favors whatsoever, as they take on the team they met in the Winter Season Finals last season, in The BrotherHood, this Wednesday at Baie D’Urfe Field, in a must-see showdown.

5

Martine et le Flag – Last Week:9

A won over an always tough Les Maloudes team, and a come from behind tie versus The Crew, had Martine et le Flag, on more than few radars. A stunning victory over Keyport Lock on Monday night, had yours truly thinking of the criminally underrated song Kick in the Door, by the greatest rapper of all time, The Notorious B.I.G. Thankfully, William Marchand, Samuel Bédard, Justin Dion, and company, didn’t have to wave a .44 magnum, but they did let everybody know they’re here, by pulling off the upset and barging up the top 10 rankings. Martine et le Flag, has a chance to earn some more Respect (No, I am not talking about Aretha Franklin. Look up the reference. I wanted to go Money and Power as well, but it made no sense in a league where we pay to play) if they can take care of the talented but winless Lonzo Ballers, this Sunday at Hebert.

6

Junkyard Dogs – Last Week 8

They quieted the naysayers with a dominant (43-15) victory over a 69ers team that was in the top 10 just last week. With experience and big play ability on both sides of the ball, mixed in with some championship pedigree, will this season finally be the year that the Junkyard Dogs, get out of their own way and it to the top of the mountain?

7

Trinity – Last Week: Not Ranked

You beat the top ranked team in Division 3, and as Chris Jericho used to say, you make the list. With their full roster finally at their disposal, Jean-Félix Marquis’ squad was able to pull off the (26-19) win, and hand KGP, their first loss of the campaign. Up next for Trinity, is an Easy Jake Oven squad, who are looking to prove themselves against a winning team, after they beat Past Our Prime, and District, but were blown out in Week 1 (36-14), by you guessed it, KGP.

8

La Brume Last Week: 5

After beating Lonzo Ballers in Week 1, La Brume, have lost two straight, and are in serious danger of falling out of the top 10. One reason for their slide, has been a struggling offense, that after scoring 32 points in their lone victory, they have only put up 19 on the scoreboard in both of their loses. Defensively, there have been a few positives, namely their performance in the second half, as they have held The BrotherHood and Les Maloudes, to a combined 19 points. To get back in the win column, Quarterback Jimmy-Lee Janvier, has to find ways to get his offense, and the team back on track.

9

Backyard Bullies – Last Week: 10

As I said in my Monday article and earlier here as well, the Backyard Bullies, were short-handed when they lost to Pineapple Express, as they were without their best defender in Sean Avraam. The 4-time All-Star is expected to return this week, and his return couldn’t come any sooner, as the Backyard Bullies, go head-to-head with the Junkyard Dogs, in what should be a fantastic contest and hopefully a Game of the Week candidate, Monday night at Hebert.

Division 2

by AJ Gomes

1

Taco Tuesday

Still #1 and will remain in that spot until they can be beaten. QB Sean Avraam has been locked in so far this season, let’s see if he can keep it going.

2

Bad Boys

They are still undefeated and can take the top spot before we know it. Team chemistry is looking good and Matt Bond is looking better than ever with 7 TDs in 3 games.

3

#NR

The last of the 3 teams yet to be beaten. I expect to see this veteran team in the top 3 for the whole season. Will anyone be able to shut down Quaid Johnson? Doesn’t seem like it considering he already has 9TDs in 3 games.

4

BYOB

They’ve only suffered 1 loss and it was a nail biter to #NR. They bounced back with a big win and their schedule seems to be favouring them over the next couple of weeks. You can keep counting on Sebastien Simon for big plays on both sides of the ball.

5

Les Studs

Not the start they wanted this season but they face the winless No Cap team this week which is a perfect opportunity for them to step it up and take hold of their season. I’m looking for QB Samuel Caron to have a perfect perfomance.

6

Killa Bees

They will need to bring their A game this week if they wanna keep their heads above water. They will face the undefeated #NR and need to be perfect if they want to walk away victorious.

7

Terror Squad

An upset this week against the #1 seeded Taco Tuesday can turn the season around for this experienced squad. Can the Pilon twins be the difference for them in this tough match up? It’s certainly not out of the question.

Division 1

by AJ Gomes

1

Got-Skills

They say defence wins championships. Let’s see if that’s the case for this Got-Skills team who currently has allowed the least points against (78). I expect nothing less from a defensive line up of veterans being led by the best DC in the game, Sebastien Deschamps.

2

Braves

Back, Better and Braver than ever. 2-1 doesn’t do them justice seeing as they took a loss without their best player/leader Jonathan Maheu. They have their eye on the top spot and I’m counting on them to take it sooner or later.

3

YCSWU

Last week they took their first loss after finally being tested for the first time this season. This week we see if they can bounce back and prove to all of us that they are a top contender in this division.

4

Flag Moi L’sac

They will need an offensive boost to help them compete at this level. They only have 59 points so far this season which has them as the lowest scoring offence in the division. They have a big challenge ahead vs Braves and will need to put up points if they want to climb into the top 3.

5

Da Finest

This veteran team is still trying the find the chemistry with some of their new roster additions. I’m counting on them to get into rhythm this week against Got-Skills. It won’t be easy but legendary QB Kevin Wyeth always plays his best when his back is against a wall.

6

STL

Down but not out. They have too much talent on their roster to remain winless much longer. A big upset win this week vs YCSWU can change their whole season. They will need to find their offensive mojo as they have put up 28 points in their last two games, which I’m sure they know will never be enough to win games in Div1. With that said, they have the weapons to put points on the board so let’s see if they can figure things out and make their way out of the bottom spot.

Saturday’s Sinking Superstars

We’ve all heard the stats about teams that are 0-3 and their chances of making the playoffs in the NFL.  This is perhaps even more difficult when you consider FPF has only 10 regular season games.  If you are on of those teams do not despair as there is still enough season to prove stats wrong!  For those who have any thoughts, commentary or complaints, I am very easy to find.  I’m @peezefpf on twitter and Peeze Della Reeze on most other forms of social media.  You can also take a chance by emailing me at [email protected] and if it happens to be one of the two weeks per season that I check that email I will surely answer!

Remember that each week you can join the party on Facebook live or at www.youtube.com/flagplus on our weekly podcast: Calling the Audible.  The show starts each week at 7:30 pm and we discuss topics such as the best childhood Sumer camps, which golden goose is best for the gander and how the weather on Hoth would be affected by climate change and how that would effect the real estate values!  Till next week, I want to thank you falettineme be mice elf agin!
