Week 3: Shaking up the Power Rankings
Three down, seven to go.
I’d like to start off by apologizing for how late this article is. I’d like to be able to blame something serious or come up with a “cool” excuse, like gardening or whatever, but I won’t; I legit wrote most of this, it completely slipped my mind and I forgot to finish / post. Sorry.
I guess I’m the one who dropped the ball here, huh!
Let’s get started.
Week 3
Spitfire showed everyone they aren’t the easy matchup everyone initially thought, Frehsmen might have backup coming, Khan Artists had a statement game, Ocean’s 12???, Underachieves look poised for a deep run, Prospect Squad got that Huge W and Dad Bods continue to play with a chip on their shoulder. Another good week of FPF in the books.
Thoughts of the Week
- When is it okay to write numbers with letters or just digits in a text? Hmm.
- Some might say I underestimated Sean Avraams, but he’s playing to prove me wrong and I’m sure all his teammates are happy right now.
- After 10 receiving Tds in 2 weeks in Div C, Vinny couldn’t score in Week 3. I’m disappointed.
- That Lebron short short suit thing was terrible. ‘nuff said.
- Having Paul Lapierre on Khan Artists is truly a blessing.
- Freshmen can compete with the right defensive schemes and a good QB; they’ve got some good players out there.
- As good as Alex Holowach has been in Div B, he looked nothing like that frontrunner in his Div A debut.
- That Khan Artists vs Outsiders game was pretty interesting. Rematch pending?
- Theo Bekelis with 12 catches? Damnnn.
- I knew Mat René was about to turn it around any moment now.
- PROSPECTS SQUAD.
- I don’t understand how Dad Bods’ stats keep doubling every week.
- Considering I write the article and I’m on the podcast, if I say “best team no one is talking about”, does that mean I’m bad at my job? Hmm.
- Seeing how balanced Khan Artists is, there’s no doubt in my mind they’ve got that #1 Offence going. And it’s pretty dirty too.
- Braves have the best PA (58) in A and B combined. Playing Freshmen helped, but they weren’t the only one to face them neither.
- With this late release, I’m sure Daron Basmadjian is somewhere, out there, smiling.
Players of the Week
- Serge Pilon Jr (Outsiders): He managed to slip by defenders one too many times and put the team on his back most of the night finishing with 138 receiving yards and 5 Tds. Impressive feat.
- Jonathan Maheu (Braves): Although he threw an interception, he did get TWO back (one for six) and did throw 42 points.
- Carmine Pollice (Spitfire): 7 throwing Tds, 45 points and, most importantly, the Win. Which is all that matters in the end.
- Jeanslee Alexis (Prospects Squad): He might have thrown two interceptions, but he got one back (for six), threw 6 and finished with a whoopin’ 237 combined yards. Oh, and the W. Definitely deserving.
- Vincent Jacques (2HD): I remember his old FPF days and he was a dominant player. He got better. WAY better, somehow. He tallied 3 receiving Tds and a pick this week.
Recaps
- Outsiders vs Khan Artists: Last week’s Game of the Week (in my opinion) definitely did NOT disappoint. In fact, it came down to the very end as Kevin Wyeth was able to score, down by one and attempted the 2-point convert with 4 play lefts. Seeing how this game was playing out, I’m pretty sure Khan Artists would’ve been successful scoring with 4 plays left, but that’s not the point here. In a game that went back and forth pretty much the whole way, a key drop by Pat Jerome on a 3rd down to open the 2nd half followed by one from Serge Pilon Jr killed the drive and forced a turnover. Down two points at the moment, Khan Artists jumped on the occasion to take the lead and the control back. The newly acquired Danny D’Amour played a big role, mostly defensively, as he replaced the injured Domenic Benevento and gives the Artists a few more looks to give opposing teams defensively. Seeing Paul Lapierre rush Kevin Wyeth was a fun sight, even on that one convert where Kevin escaped. All in all, a pretty good game that was refereed the right way, regardless of what some might seem to think!
- Victory Royale! vs Underachievers: Minus a few highlight plays by Anthony Comeau and Dexter Linton, Victory Royale looked flat most of the night against Underachievers. I don’t know if it was the late game slot or the regular season feel, but it was far from fire works for most of the game; it almost felt like practice in the first half. Sam Mashtoub ended up with a pretty big game as he continues to fill an increasing role with each passing week and, I must say, he’s really starting to make a name for himself out there. Even against a pretty top notch defence, I was expecting Phil Cutler to rise up to the occasion, but Underachievers kept him in-check most of the night and kept control of the game from, pretty much, the very start.
Power Rankings
- Khan Artists (2-1): They took down the #1 ranked team this week, looked great doing it and now they’re the new top dogs.
- Braves (3-0): The only undefeated team in Div A isn’t #1? You know what to do if you want the title next week; beat Khan Artists.
- Outsiders (2-1): Heartbreaking loss should fuel the rematch in a few weeks. I’m eager to see how they bounce back this week.
- Ocean’s 12 (2-1): Losing without your starting QB isn’t as meaningful. Let’s see how they do this week with Ryan Kastner returning before we overreact.
- Spitfire (1-2): Huge win over Monstars sees them jump up a few spots.
- #NR (1-2): Last week was a good momemtum builder, but that win didn’t mean much. They’ve got a pretty neat challenge THIS week.
- Monstars (1-2): What is happening? I ranked them first preseason and they’ve been off the rails. I still feel they’ve got what it takes though…!
- Freshmen (0-3): If the rumors are true, we’re bound to see a much more competitive Freshmen in the upcoming weeks!
- 2HD (2-1): It’s not their fault their opponent was missing a handful of guys. They beat whoever was in front of them (the #1 ranked team) and that’s all that matters.
- Underachievers (3-0): I hesitated in having co-#1 and ended up voting against. Underachievers may be the best team in the division no one is talking about.
- Meta Mayhem (2-1): With their full roster, they’re still the scariest team in the division.
- Dad Bods (2-1): The 10th best QB continues to prove his point. Maybe I should start listening at some point.
- Victory Royale! (2-1): Back to back weeks with shaky QB play will see you drop a handful of spots. Can they fix the problem without dropping anymore spots?
- Le Sport Campus (1-2): If they can keep building on that chemistry and momemtum, Le Sport Campus may be one of the best underdog this season.
- Prospects Squad (1-2): There is something there. Unless this week was a fluke, they’ll be JUST FINE.
- Drop The Mic (1-2): They may have a lot of offensive firepower, but that defence needs some work. They’ve allowed the most points (139) after 3 weeks. Ouch.
- LGM (1–2): Is LGM lacking firepower to compete in B or will they find their groove as the weeks progress?
- Spring Cleaning (0-3): The Patrick Chenard experiment isn’t going as well as planned. Is it just a matter of chemistry?

I’ll be scorekeeping Tuesdays in Brossard, feel free to stop by and say hi! Until next time…! Still, you haven’t fixed the double stats from Dad Bods… One job…!
