Co-ed Week 1 Recap
Co-Ed Week 1 Recap
Another season is upon us in the co-ed division and although it is just the beginning I see a lot of great things coming from this competitive division. There were some returning teams and some brand new faces. This week also showcased the difference one off-season can make on a team who was looking for key elements to a victorious outcome. Here is what happened in Week 1 of the Co-Ed Spring Season.
3rd Down for What? Vs. TC
3rd Down for What? is the team I mentioned took this offseason to find players to fill the voids and improve their overall game. That was clear in this week’s matchup as they played an incredible game led by Sara Parker. Sure her numbers were not great but she improved from last season. The improvements come from the complete overhaul that shook up their entire roster. Sure she would have preferred to do more but she threw 2 touchdowns when her team needed them most and they led to a team victory. She made 1mistake in the form of an interception to Emilie Carrier but it did not impact the outcome of the game.
They worked on their playbook as well and added some plays that would fool the opposing defense as Kevin Lubin had 2 completions and 1 touchdown. Kevin St-Pierre was the one that proved that the team just needed some minor tweaks as he caught three passes and two of them led to touchdowns. A player that was added to this roster and made an automatic impact was Alexis Gaumont. He was the defensive juggernaut they needed to improve from the winter season; he proved it by coming away with 2 interceptions and it seemed to me like he was able to get into the head of Vanessa Birri.
TC coming off that heartbreaking defeat against a very powerful team in the winter final was looking to turn the leaf and it did not click for them unfortunately. Vanessa looked really rusty out on that field this week. It was as if she was just throwing the ball near one of her receivers and just hoping for the best. In this game the best did not come as much as she needed it to. She finished with 42% completion rate which is not at all what she would consider tolerable. The fact that she threw more interceptions than touchdown passes is simply unheard of. I know the kind of Quarterback Vanessa can be and this is definitely a game she will have to forget and get back to her best. Lucky for her this is only week 1 and there is a lot of time to improve on this poor start.
3rd down for what? Indeed proved to be a much better team than they were in the winter season and I am looking forward to how far they can go if they maintain this level of play. They came away with a 32-12 victory over TC.
Hot-Dawgs vs. Michael Scott’s Tots
This match was very impressive as we had a brand new team in Hot-Dawgs compete against last season’s mid table finisher Michael Scott’s Tots. Now Hot-Dawgs are completely new to me and the way they played was very impressive. With Vincent Boutin at the helm making the calls he was able to ensure the best possible plays for his team. He completed half his passes but for his first match in the co-ed division I must say he was a little shaky to start throwing two interceptions one of which was to Zackary Alberts-Gill who has proven to be a special kind of talent and the other was to Gabrielle Perucic who made an impact on her first career start. All in all; great first start and if this continue I see good things happening for this team.
Maximilien Sadori, aside from having one of the greatest names I have heard in recent times he was the main target for Vincent. Maximilien was helping Vincent by distracting the opposing defenders just enough for Vincent to find another receiver open. Maximilien finished with just under 90 yards receiving and he caught a touchdown pass while making defenders switch coverage on him all game to find the best match. Unfortunately for the opposing defense they could not match him well enough.
Evan Ely Nolet is coming around in his overall game and he had himself quite the first game of this season. Completing 65% of his passes against a defense who I am sure surprised him and everyone else on Michael Scott’s Tots. Evan is quite the veteran in FlagPlus Football and it shows with the composure he showcases everytime he starts at quarterback. His favorite target was Zackary who is just tough to cover. He may not look the part but when he feels like burning you down the sideline he will turn on his jets and that was the case in this game as he had 117 yards receiving. He was so important in this outcome that without his 2 touchdown receptions his team would have probably lost.
It was quite the performance on both sides who were so evenly matched that neither Hot-Dawgs nor Michael Scott’s Tots was able to secure the victory. On a positive note neither of them fell victim to defeat as the final score of this very entertaining game was 22-22.
Party Mix vs. Yin & Yang
This matchup was the dominating performance of the week as Party Mix took all the experience they’ve had playing together in FlagPlus Football and just showcased it on the field. “Bandana Man” François Deslauriers just keeps improving as a quarterback and he does all he has to do to ensure he gives his team the best chance of winning. The way he spreads the ball is incredible it’s as if his game plan is to get out there and make sure everyone of his receivers get the ball. He spread the ball to 6 different receivers. That’s simply incredible and when he felt like he needed a break which is never because he is a machine but he let Marie-Esther Chabot throw a couple of passes and with him helping her out she was able to complete 4 of her 6 passes and get a touchdown.
Marc-Antoine Bigué, Marie-Esther, Alex Holowach, and Marilou Côté Noël were all on the receiving end of a touchdown. Honestly speaking I feel like this game was a team effort and boy did that team effort work out for Party Mix. Overall on offense and on defense they were simply the better team and they will be some serious contenders for the championship in this spring season. Now sure it’s just week 1 but I have watched this team improve; from the inaugural season last winter to the improved season this past winter season and now getting off to this dominating start in the spring season.
Yes it was a rough start for Yin & Yang but they are a brand new team and they just need a couple tweaks in their systems to become a real threat. They have some solid players on their roster and once they figure out how to work as a whole team they can cause some serious damage in this division. For a first game they could not have gotten a tougher matchup but on the bright side it’s week 1 and there is still a lot of football left to be played. Although once they get themselves a full roster and all the pieces fall together nicely they will certainly have many people talking about how they improved within a season. Keep playing the game and things will work out, they usually do and the best part of this is that there is always going to be room for improvement no matter what.
The experience of working as a team impacted this matchup in a tremendous way and it was the team that has been working together for a couple of seasons that came up victorious as Party Mix defeated Yin & Yang 37-6.
Power Rankings
- 1- Party Mix: Their dominating performance this week has them leading the charge in this very early window of the season.
- 2- 3rd Down For What?: After a very impressive recruiting off-season they seem to have found the pieces needed for success.
- 3- Michael Scott’s Tots: They are a complete team and although they did not come out victorious they have a lot to look forward to.
- 4- Top-Dawgs: No disrespect because they played one hell of a game but I need to see more of them to truly depicts their threat level in this division.
- 5- TC: Shocking yes but this is just for the first week as they just were not the team I was use to writing about last season but I am sure they will figure out how to make strides in this division.
- 6- Yin & Yang: They were dominated but I will not base their future on this one game, if they work out some kinks I truly do believe they have a real chance of competing.
Predictions
Party Mix vs. Michael Scott’s Tots
I truly believe that Michael Scott’s Tots can come out victorious in this matchup but only if they find a way to get Bandana Man off his game. If they fail to get in his head then Party Mix will come out with the win.
TC vs. Yin & Yang
If Vanessa finds her stride again then TC will come out victorious but they will be tested if Yin & Yang found their calling. Honestly if Yin & Yang keep it simple and don’t overthink plays they will be dangerous.
Hot-Dawgs vs. 3rd Down For What?
This is gonna be a good matchup and I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of this game. I believe the experience that 3rd down for what? Have will be just enough to get them past Hot-Dawgs. Nonetheless looking forward to this contest it is sure going to be a good one if week 1 told me anything.
That’s all for me this week and I am looking forward to this great season ahead of us.
