Co-Ed Week 7 Wrap Up
Another huge week in the co-ed division. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend every co-ed game like last week, but I was there for two games and they were very entertaining. The co-ed division is always fun and its very unpredictable; you never know what the outcome of any game may be. While reading this you will witness everything there is to know about what happened this week in the Co-Ed Division.
Big TDs vs. Power Rangers
Saadia Ashraf did what I knew she would and had a bounce back performance. Although I believe that she still wishes she played a better game, there were lots of improvements from her match in week 6 and it’s only a matter of time before she gets back to the level from the beginning of the season. She completed 62% of her passes this week, with 3 touchdown passes and an interception. The interception was something she would obviously like to have back because it switched the momentum in the game. Her one mistake was an overthrown pass, where there was some misunderstanding with the receiver, and the ball landed nicely in the arms of Maxime Giroux.
The receiver that helped Saadia out the most was Myles Browne, as he made top tier defenders work harder than they thought they would. He finished the game with 6 catches for just under 70 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns. The thing about his touchdowns were that they were not flukes. He made it seem really easy but the touchdowns were tough to come by. His first one was on a post route, where two defenders trying to get the ball collided, leaving Myles an easy ball to catch in the end zone. Myles’ other touchdown was a slant route, where he made one of the top tier defenders miss while spinning into the end zone. Some fancy moves shown by a talented player. Georgina Paull was also a receiver that got the best of her defender when she caught a curl route in the back of the end zone and ensured both feet were in for a touchdown.
Kevin Lubin was lights out in this game; he finished with a 65% completion rate, 6 touchdowns and no interceptions. A performance that he will keep in mind and grow from during the remainder of the season. He spread the ball around very well, keeping the defenders guessing and leaving the defense trying to anticipate his next move. He never repeated himself and he always found an open receiver and put the ball in spots where only they could make the catch.
Kevin connected with three different receivers for his touchdown passes; the main guy was Serge Pilon who had 4 catches for over 100 yards and 3 touchdowns. This is a very impressive stat line, but his touchdowns were much more impressive than those numbers. His first touchdown was a simple drag route, where it took one simple move for him to find the opening to the end zone. His second touchdown was a simple go route, where his speed and agility left him wide open for the score. His third touchdown was also a go route, just because he’s just too quick and he makes it look easy getting past every defender by simply running a straight line.
Jasmine Farmer proved to be a real menace on offense as she had 3 catches for just over 80 yards and 2 touchdowns. She showcased her speed and it was very fun to watch. Her first touchdown was a go route where she side stepped one defender and ran into the end zone for the score. Her second touchdown was also a go route where it seemed like she was on an island of her own and she caught it rather easily for the touchdown.
Wade Shallcross was also tough to cover as he had 3 catches, just less than 30 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown was a jump ball that he caught over the defender. He showed real athleticism on the play, as he looked 6 foot 5 inches tall with his high jump, and to come down with the catch while maintaining two feet in bounds was incredible.
This was one of the most anticipated games of the co-ed division. 2 of the top 3 teams were at battle and the Power Rangers won 37-20 in a game that was a fun watch.
TC vs. Party Mix
Vanessa Birri finished her game with 53% completion rate followed by 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. She spread the ball evenly among her receivers, making their jobs easy while throwing well placed passes. Unfortunately for her, she also threw two interceptions that she took full responsibility for. Marie-Esther Chabot and the bandana man Frank Deslauriers were the two party Mix members that came down with the interceptions.
The two receivers on Vanessa’s touchdowns were Emilie Carrier and Jacques Void. Emilie had 4 catches for just under 45 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jacques also had 4 catches for just over 30 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jacques added an interception, which was definitely the biggest turning point of this game and helped ensure a victory for his team.
Bandana Man Deslauriers wished he had completed more of his passes, but generally speaking he did not make many mistakes. His completion percentage was less than half but that did not stop him from making the throws that led to 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. The interception unfortunately changed the momentum of the game. It was the only mistake of the game that he would have really wanted to take back.
He spread the ball among his receivers and allowed them to make the most of the opportunities given to them. Jessy Prénovost had a huge game making 5 catches for just over 60 yards and 2 touchdowns. Marc-Antoine Bigué was the other guy to catch a touchdown. Unfortunately, these two offensive performances weren’t enough to secure a win for their team, but I know that this team will bounce back and continue to perform at their best level.
It was a good match up that came down to a defensive stop in the end to ensure a 26-20 victory by TC.
It’s A Match vs. ATH Squad
Benoit Lawlor had one of the nearest to perfect games I have ever witnessed in my 2 years working for FlagPlus Football. He completed 65% of his passes and had 6 touchdown passes to 0 interceptions. This performance is the standard for what a successful game of quarterbacking looks like. He followed those 6 touchdowns with a rushing touchdown of his own. He took full advantage of a penalty that placed him just outside the red zone. He ran, made a defender miss and was able to add another 6 points to their grand total.
Alexis Labonté was the real deal in this game. He was unleashed on offense and hungry to make a significant impact on the game. He did just that with 6 catches for just over 90 yards and 3 touchdowns. His first touchdown was a post route, where he turned on the jets to get open and carried that momentum into the endzone for the score. His second touchdown was a quick out route just inside the red zone. He created just enough separation for Benoit to whip the ball into his chest for the score. The third touchdown was a hook route in the end zone that was thrown to a spot where only he could make the catch.
Kelly Lalonde also had two touchdown receptions. One of which was a post route caught easily in the end zone when there were no defenders within 5 yards of her. Her second one was a go route, where she was wide open and caught it to extend the lead to put the game away.
Lastly, Maryse Normandeau scored a spectacular touchdown on a pass caught after the opposing defender got a hand on it. The concentration it took for her to make the play after the defender altered the balls direction was a great show of hand eye coordination and she made it look easy.
Marc-Antoine Jetté’s performance was not too concerning. His team just needed to capitalize on certain opportunities that he was able to give them. He finished the game completing less than half of his passes to go along with just under 150 yards. He added two touchdowns and an interception that was caused after he was forced to throw the ball on the run without getting his feet settled, intercepted inside the end zone by Henry Dam.
Olivier Laberge had three catches for about 50 yards and one touchdown. The touchdown was nice I must say. It was a go route that was caught while jumping up in the air. He was then able to shake off a defender and prance into the end zone for the score.
Sarah-Michèle Roy was the other receiver that found a touchdown. It may have been the only catch she made the whole game but it was a very nice one. She was open in the end zone, but Marc-Antoine under threw her a little bit and she was able to adjust and find a way to catch the ball while she was on the ground for a touchdown.
What I believed would have been a tight, mid-level match ended up being a one sided affair. It’s A Match took the 44-12 victory over ATH Squad.
Served With Girls vs. Flamingos
Karl Lavallée picked apart a defense that was reeling after being struck by a big injury. In week 6, Cam Chaput aggravated a nagging knee injury and he was really the defensive captain for the Flamingos. That being said, Karl completed 73% of his passes, racked up almost 230 yards passing, with 7 touchdowns, and no interceptions. He found 5 different receivers for a touchdown and if that is not considered spreading the ball at an elite level, I don’t know what is. He also somehow found a way to come away with a touchdown reception off a batted ball that he caught and ran into the end zone for 10 yards.
Among those 5 receivers, there was one that truly proved to be the big challenge for the opposing team both on offense and on defense. Jordan Panetta had 2 catches for just over 60 yards and 2 touchdowns. While on the defensive side of the ball he had 3 interceptions, and was remarkably able to return them all to the end zone for a score.
Vincent Duval-Demers also had some impressive offensive numbers as he earned 2 catches for over 50 yards and 1 touchdown. Sandra Clement felt like she had to compete against he own teammates when it came to receiving as she had 3 catches for over 30 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lastly, Stephanie Barbaro Lamarre came away with 2 receptions for less than 10 yards, but she had a touchdown reception as well.
That being said, the flamingos showed me something that in my opinion is worth more than a win and that was the ability to keep their heads up when everything was going wrong. This proves to me that this team is not just a team but they are all very good friends who support one another when things are not at all going their way. Sure they have yet to win a game this season, but they keep coming back and enjoying themselves. One of the oldest quotes when it comes to sports is that the most important thing is having fun and this team is showing me that together they have a bond that no other team has. They say a good team wins but it’s a great team that is able to keep their head up no matter what.
This game was one sided from the very beginning and it was Served With Girls that came up with a commanding 69-0 win.
Flagiuuu vs. Straight Off The Couch
Joel Richard had one of his best games of the season as he completed 50% of his passes, threw for 3 touchdowns, but unfortunately threw 3 interceptions as well. It was the interceptions thrown that really made a difference in this game. 2 of the interceptions were caught by Kevin St.Pierre and those were both returned for touchdowns, and the third was caught by Kurtis Bell. Had he not thrown those interceptions he would have most likely given his team their first victory of the season.
Joel’s main receiver for the game was Martin Gelinas. Martin finished the game with 6 catches for over 60 yards and 3 touchdowns. All of these touchdowns came in the second half of the game. The go to guy for field positioning was Maxime Marsan, who had 8 catches for 100 yards. Unfortunately no touchdown, but the yards were there and he helped his team close the gap on their opposition.
Let’s just say that Sara Parker wishes that she had completed more passes, because she finished the game with less than half. She finished by throwing for 75 yards and following that up with 2 touchdowns, but with two interceptions as well. One of her interceptions was thrown to Martin, who then returned it to the end zone for a score and that play may have swung momentum in the opposing teams favor. The other interception was thrown to Maxime. It didn’t end up like her first one but I can assure you that it put a damper on her confidence. Keep your head up Sara, you will find your way and I feel like you will grow from this performance.
She spread the ball evenly among her receivers and there was not one individual who stood out. That being said, Dylan Narcisco was targeted twice and although there was not much yardage associated with those catches he was able to come down with one in the end zone. Mike Palmorino was targeted once and for good reason. Sara targeted Mike when he was open in the end zone and she threw it to a spot where only he could catch it. That’s exactly what happened since he came up with a touchdown on his only reception.
This game was a tale of two halves. Straight off the couch won the first half but Flagiuuu came back strong and ensured that the game would end in a 24-24 tie. This was not the outcome I expected but I like how Flagiuuu is changing their game a bit and finding creative ways into the end zone.
That’s it for me this week. If you guys have any comments, complaints, criticism, I can always be reached via email ([email protected]) or twitter (@FPF_Stefb) or in person at the fields. Thanks for reading my material on a weekly basis.
