Division 6/6D Split
Introduction
My name is Paolo Della Rocca, I am one of the more senior FPF media personalities (in both age and tenure). I have also played in this division for a while and have played up to and including Division B in the past. This season, I will be playing quarterback for Division 6’s One Speed: Power. I will also be snapping for Divison 3’s Darksiders. I have covered every division and have hosted podcasts and written articles for FPF for over 5 years now.
I’m a little off the wall and my style is an attempt to be entertaining while also bringing you interesting sports content. I try to look at things through an intellectual lens as I try to provide actual analysis and avoid platitudes and clichés. For those who like clichés feel free to read Simon Dagenais’ Divison 1/ 2 article. I will be submitting a preseason article in a few days and I will be discussing all of your teams as well as introducing the entire media team for this division. For the meantime know that you can reach me for your conversational interests, questions and complaints.
The Great Divide
Heading into this season FPF was faced with a decision that it’s never been faced with in prior seasons. While the division had been one of FPF’s largest for a while, having 44 teams register for the lowest division Flag Plus Football decided to split the division into two. It was decided that while it was preferable to have an even number of teams in each division, it was not important to have an equal amount of teams in each of these two divisions.
Another issue arose when we decided to split the division. When dividing the teams in Divisions 4 and 5 we used the cap as a way to differentiate teams we felt belonged on one side of the divide or the other. However, due to the typically small sample size for players in Division 6 using such data would be either irrelevant or a poor predictor of future success. The decision was made to divide the division with the following in mind:
Division 6 has a community of teams that typically play in this division and are not yet ready to move into a higher division. These teams may not be truly elite but are often stronger than new teams simply based on their knowledge of the game. These teams were placed in Division 6. Using the nomenclature established by the NBA we decided to name the division housing the remaining teams in 6D. The D stands for developmental and this division is focused on targeting brand new teams, experimental teams (teams with less than 3 experienced FPF players) and finally, teams that struggled last year or this past summer.
These decisions were made after a lot of thoughtful consideration. The criteria were considered and each team was judged individually. While some may not agree, I can assure you that this division was considered by arbiters with extensive knowledge of the league and Division 6. This is also an experimental process and please let myself or Rob Campana know if you have any feedback as the season progresses.
