Flo’s Forecast: Week 8 Recap – Week 9 Preview

First of all, if you haven’t checked it out already, you need to watch division A’s Game of the Week because AJ Green made an appearance… But seriously, seven receiving touchdowns? Talk about a player going OFF and putting the team on his back when his team was in desperate need of a spark. All I have to say is props Theo Ojeaha, you sir, stole the show. And it’s not even like they were all easy catches. Most were contested and Ojeaha just flew up and went to get the ball. Enough talking, just go see for yourself:

Now that that’s out of the way, week 8 was a clear reminder that in FPF, anything can truly happen on any given week. What you think you know, you probably don’t know. The Monstars beat the Finest and tied All Black Everything, yet lose to the Legends, again. Go figure that one out. Star City, a team most people saw cruising to an undefeated season and division B title, lost this past week, although there really is no shame in losing to a team like Grip N Rip. They won division 3 for a reason this past winter. But the shocker of the week may very have been the Blue Chips knocking off, in very convincing fashion may I add, #NoRegard 33-14 to earn their first win in division B. Hey, you registered in division B precisely to beat #NoRegard and you did just that, congratulations Blue Chips! Too bad you can’t play your rivals every week.

Only a few games left now before the big show and as of now, there is still a lot left to be determined in terms of clinching playoff spots and seeding. In Conference A, can #NoRegard and the Gladiateurs hold off the Darksiders and Red Raiders? In Conference B, who will drop out of the 6th spot, Lightweight, Fun Boys, or bfhhsfbdfhb? May the better teams qualify for the playoffs.

 

Week 8 Recaps:

Div. A

Legends 32, Monstars 26

After beating the Finest the week prior, it seemed as though this game was going to be statement game for the Monstars as they were rolling on all cylinders not having lost in their past four games (3-0-1). Instead, the Monstars lost their second game of the season against a Legends team missing Travis Moses, Ryan Lelinowski, Sean Kennedy, and Cory Pecker. It was a sloppy start to the game for both teams with an interception thrown by Rod Mashtoub and a redzone goalline stand by the Monstars defense after the ball went right through Anthony Vendrame’s hands in the end zone on 4th down. The Legends scored with a few plays left before half and made it a 13-7 deficit at halftime. The Legends tied the game on the opening drive of the second half as I hit Kevin Laliberte in the end zone. The teams went back and forth for a few drives but then a game-changing interception by Danny D’Amour in the end zone turned the tides in the Legends’ favour. The Legends scored again on the ensuing drive to make it 26-18 but the Monstars weren’t done as Mashtoub led his troops to a score and a two-point conversion, which tied up the game once again. With about a minute to go, I hit Eddy Martinez deep down the right sideline for the go-ahead score 32-26. The game was far from over and we knew it. The Monstars got some solid yardage in the next few plays but just when you thought they would come back tie and possibly win, a bad decision by Mashtoub led to Vinny Gualano undercutting and out route and clinching the victory for the Legends.

 

Div. B

Blue Chips 33, #NoRegard 14

In the shocker of the week, the Blue Chips accomplished what they set out to do when they registered for division B, and that is to beat #NoRegard. Coming in as 18.5 points favourites, #NoRegard looked like a team that wasn’t mentally focused and were looking ahead towards next week. That is something you cannot do in football. Overlooking a team is a usually a recipe for disaster and that’s exactly what I would categorize this for #NoRegard, a disaster. Mario Porreca looked awful and completely flustered by what Blue Chips threw at him as they only managed one offensive touchdown the entire game, the other being a pick six. Not having Travis Moses on the field due to a finger injury cannot be understated for this team. On the flip side, Jordan Mitchell took the snaps and using his legs and a short passing game a la Vinny Gualano, he managed to play a good game, minus his pick six, to lead his team to victory. Now sitting in the final playoff spot in conference A, #NoRegard will need to hold off a suddenly dangerous Darksiders team and a pesky Red Raiders team to make it to the postseason. For the Blue Chips, it’s mission accomplished and maybe this can propel them to another upset in the final few games of the season. With a struggling Casket Closers team this week, they definitely have a chance to win their second straight.

Tough loss to ABE but they had that game on the last 2-point conversion. Wyeth just missed his throw unfortunately for them.

The Top Guns are finally finding their groove and are looking like a dangerous team going into the playoffs.

4. Monstars (3-4-1)

Disappointing loss for them for sure after beating the division’s top team the week prior, but no time to panic for the boys in purple.

5. Rainmakers (4-4)

Losers of 3 of 4, with their one win being a 1-point win against a shorthanded Legends team, this team’s stock is plummeting faster than the British dollar after Brexit.

6. Legends (2-6)

Impressive win against the Monstars to stay alive. Now they get an angry Finest team as a reward.

 

Divison B Top 5 Power Rankings

1. Grip N Rip (7-1)

Statement win for GnR over previously undefeated Star City. Way to bounce back in impressive fashion even missing their two way stud J-D Chevalier.

2. Star City (7-1)

Am I worried about this team after their first loss? Absolutely not. Expect them to come out strong this week vs. the Predators.

3. STL (8-0)

The last undefeated team left standing. Can they pull it off?

4. Two and a Half Dans (6-2)

Every year people doubt the Dans can keep as they continue to move up divisions. Every year, people are proven wrong.

5. Predators (5-3)

They’re starting to play as team and guys are showing to games as chemistry is finally starting to build. Huge game on GOTW vs. Star City to prove their worth.
