The Truth: Last Shot in Division 2

It’s the last week of play for division two and a lot can change in this last week. Although Conference B is a lock, Conference A is far from that.

Division one still has two weeks of play left and unlike a shaky division two, division one looks like it’s quickly solidifying itself. I can’t help but feel for those of you who are already out of contention. As always, I can only rationalize this situation one way: be better next season. I say it all the time, it’s one thing to want something, it’s another to go out and get it. There are no “gimmies” or mulligans in football. There are hard working players, and there are harder working players who don’t find excuses for anything. Preparation is key, don’t expect to win off the same recipe week in and week out. I wish you all a good fate, but as we all know, we can’t all be the winner!

Quick thoughts:

  • The race in division two is insane right now. Teams peacefully sitting in second and third place could easily find themselves outside looking in when everything is said and done.
  • You win and you’ll be fine! Now finding a way to win is where things get problematic for some.
  • Damps 25/8 and Wildboys are officially the first two teams to be out of the playoffs in D2.
  • Every time I pick against Kevin Wyeth in division two, he has his best games. Just when I thought my opinion mattered to no one, I guess me and Kev have a special connection!
  • It’s rare to see one picture across the board when you’re looking at the weekly leaders. Go take a look at division one’s weekly leaders.
  • I can almost say that the awards are a lock. The only ones to still be up in the air are the QB awards for both divisions.
  • I love week 10 games! I’m going to be on the sidelines for a lot of your games this weekend.
  • Marco Masciotra from Clockwork decided to bring the Monstars back down to earth. Monstars had been on a tear lately, and in the process climbed up the standings. It all came to a halt against CW with a 39-21 loss.
  • 2 points separate second place and eighth place in division two Conference A. That’s simply amazing!
  • Clockwork has allowed 38 less points on the season than the second best defense, Served With Ice.
  • Despite being in third place right now in division one, Montreal’s Finest offense is averaging 40 points per game! Makes you wonder how they’ve already lost 3 games.
  • Nice seeing Got-Skills taking division one by surprise. I can’t wait to see them when they’re firing on all cylinders.
  • Terror Squad has hit a wall since starting 3-0. Inconsistent play from quarterback Tam Vilaydeth is the reason for this sudden halt in production. In the games TS have won, Tam averaged 184 yards, 4.4 touchdowns and 0.8 interceptions per game. In the games TS have lost, Tam averaged 141.33 yards, 3 Touchdowns and 1.66 interceptions per game. Statistics do tell a pretty clear story.
  • Alex Lever and the Gladiateurs served a cup of boiling hot coffee to Served With Ice. Alex has four games this year with 3 touchdowns grabs, very impressive!
  • Rick Nincheri hopped onto a sinking ship with a plan to patch the holes. His plan wasn’t perfect but the situation was far from easy to fix. To his credit, he found a way to fix enough holes to locate himself in a decent situation with one game left to play.

Recaps:

Montreal’s Finest 40 – Loonatics 35

After speaking with Paul Lapierre, he took full responsibility for this loss. A game which came down to Paul’s second interception made it impossible for Loonatics to come back. Doesn’t matter anymore, all we can do is deal with what’s coming up. Youssy Pierre continues being the bright light in Loonatics’ offense. Paul referred to him as his best connection since Jacques Void back in the day. In this game, Kevin Wyeth did with his legs what he couldn’t with his arm. Kevin Tallied five scores through the air and one more on the ground. Loonatics have a tough two games coming up and they can’t really afford to drop either one.

D-Boys 40 – CBL 37

This one was much closer then I thought it would be. Credit to CBL, a new team in division one, for staying in a game against the defending champs.  While Marco Masciotra and Theo Ojeaha continue showing everyone why they are arguably the best duo in division one, Jamal Gitten shouldn’t be forgotten. Jamal is an every down FREAK who could change any game on any given play. He is by far the best complimentary receiver for number one, Theo Ojeaha. Together Theo and Jamal combined for 198 yards and 3 touchdowns on 14 catches (still not better than Maxime Fournier alone). CBL now sits where I thought they would. They currently occupy the 7th seed but can easily finish as far up as 3rd or 4th place if they take down Montreal’s Finest this weekend. As for D-Boys, they’ve settled very comfortably up at the top of the division. I hope for D-Boys, being at the top, won’t quench their thirst.

Terror Squad 12 – Legends 46

This was by far Corey Pecker’s best game of the year. With a game like the one he had this week, he may find himself among my studs of the week. Ever since Ryan Lelinowski re-joined his old team, he’s created a spark in the Legends’ offense that was desperately needed. Although the Legends currently sit in 3rd place overall in Conference A, they’re one loss away from dropping out of the playoffs. Terror Squad has clinched their participation in the playoffs and only needs to find a groove heading into the playoffs.

O.N.S. 56 – Wild Boys 25

Kevin Wyeth turned up in what was my game of the week. I had Wildboys coming out on top when I picked this game and obviously I was incredibly wrong. Scott Payne adds merit to his possible receiver of the year award. Scott caught 5 balls for 102 yards and 3 touchdowns. We now know this loss was the last nail in Wildboys’ coffin. Unfortunately for them, they found themselves in the wrong conference to make the playoffs with four wins. Complete opposite for O.N.S. who is now guaranteed a seat into the playoffs. I hope to see Wildboys take week 10 like any other week and perform to their best abilities.

Solide 33 – #NR 27

Finally Jamil Springer shows off his two-way abilities and helps Solide win a crucial game against a rival conference opponent. Jamil is a seasoned division one player who seemed to be taking it easy in division two. If he wants his team to find success going forward he’s going to have to turn it up another notch and play the way I know he can. Solide currently sits outside the playoff picture but luckily for them, they hold their own fate in hand. Same thing can be said for #NR, both teams are a win away from playoffs. James Floreani looked like he had found his groove coming into this game. James had been posting big numbers against decent teams and I thought #NR were on their way up. Hopefully they’ll find their winning ways this week.

Chernobyl Circus 35 – Wolverines 14

Wolverines have now lost four games in a row. If there’s one way you don’t want to head into the playoffs, it’s definitely on a long losing streak. These guys’ confidence looks to be in shambles right now and Chernobyl took full advantage of the situation. Nicolas Arsenault-Hum put the team on his back catching 11 balls for 80 yards and 4 touchdowns. The key for success seems to be simple in CC’c case. Patrick Chenard doesn’t have to stand on his head for this team to win. Pat has to maintain possession of the ball, turning the ball over has been their Achilles heel. The last scenario Wolverines needs right now is a three or four way tie for that last spot. With all the PA Wolverines have collected this season they’d be the last team in any three-way tie. If Chernobyl loses, they’re basically handing their spot to the Raiders.

Vinni’s Stud squad:

QB: Marco Masciotra (DBS) 22/33 for 278 yards and 6 TDs. Marco has been a stud all season long leading his team to the first overall spot.

QB: Kevin Wyeth (ONS) 15/18 for 250 yards and 6 TDs. If Kevin isn’t my stud in division one he’s my stud in division 2. You might be thinking that’s not fair, well grow a pair.

WR: Maxime Fournier (FML) 8 Receptions for 179 yards and 5 TDs. He is the reason I lost to Nathan Taylor in fantasy this week. Can someone slow this freak down please?

WR: Nicolas Arsenault Hum (CC) 11 Receptions for 80 yards and 4 TDs. Nic has been pretty quiet this year. He should be having games like these all year!

DB: Dexter Linton (CLK) 4 Tackles, 2 Interceptions and 3 PD. For a new comer in this league he very quickly found his way to my list of studs.

Nate now holds a two game advantage on me. He can thank Maxime Fournier for opening a can of “WoopAss” this past week. This is not the position I wanted to find myself in with two weeks to go, but I still have a chance to tie. There are two weeks left of play, and I plan on winning those two! The score after 8 weeks is 5-3.

My picks and spread:

Las week in division one I went ¾, and 6/8 in division two. That brings me to a total of 49/92 after nine weeks played. I intend to finish above 60 percent when the season wraps up. Last week helped me towards my goal. With only 14 games left I would need to get all 14 right to finish at exactly 60%. I currently sit at 53%.

Game of the week:

Legends VS Solide

This game is crucial for a spot into the playoffs. The team who loses this game will be outside looking in. Legends look to have found the path to success late in the season. It’s hard for me to say the same about Solide who have not been able to string wins together. I can’t know for certain who will be showing up to this game since both rosters seem to change on a day-to-day basis. I hope both teams see the importance of this game and step their best foot forward.

Keys:

Jamil Springer putting the team on his back.

Ryan Lellinowski eating up the YAC yards.

Corey Pecker not throwing any bone headed picks.

Jeremy Cola Versus Jonathan Lyristic

Stopping Rose on short downs.

Wish you both the best.
