Peeze’s Playbook Week 1
Peeze’s Playbook
Week 1
Can Doug McKernan and Da Regiment in Week 2
Every nine minutes he is torn from the land of dreams and reverie. Every nine minutes a siren pulls him from the ethereal world and drops him in the physical realm. Finally when he is ready to abandon hopes and desires he allows his eyelids to stay awake. He can snooze the real world no longer. Pulling himself up from warm comfort he does his best to shake off all the days before and step into the light of a new beginning.
Once he cleanses off the impurities of his unconscious form our hero pours cup after cup of scalding dark fuel. He gets ready to battle villainous obstacles such as layers of ice on a windshield and obstinate turn-styles. His daily brawl to live peacefully in a world of asinine incompetence is balanced with his desire to share just get a moment to himself at the end of a long day.
This is the life and times of the caffeinated super hero. The struggle is real.
Feeling Blue
It seems odd to highlight a sloppy game. However, the game between Les Blues Branleurs and the Snatchers was one to consider because I think it speaks volumes about both teams. For Les Blues Branleurs, we saw that Minh Ton That did struggle against the higher division defence. The snatchers threw a trio of rushers at him (Kevin Lubin, Hugo Lalonde and Gabriel Wiseman) and they limited his ability to do damage as a dual threat. Ton That played well on defense, as the rest of the team did as well. Ton That had Kevin Lubin locked up for most of the game and got the better of the matchup despite the size difference. Reda Malki and Phil Angers both intercepted Simon “Grenader” Dagenais as Les Blues BranLeurs defense held the Snatchers in check.
After this game Snatchers quarterback Simon Dagenais was visibly disappointed. While he did complain about the unbelievable amount of drops on his team, he did say he was disappointed in his own play. This is understandable as he only completed 8 passes. Luckily, two of these passes went to Hugo Lalonde for touchdows. Let’s hope this is a just a case of week 1 rust as the Snatchers are a talented group and even thought the did win this one I expect they thought that they would put up more points and the score wouldn’t have been as close as 13-7. Nonetheless Snatchers, take the first game of the season by a score of 13-7.
Los Luchadores Leave the Ring as Victors over Zio e Fraté
The headline was somewhat of a stretch but the defences on both sides did not allow the opposing offences to stretch the field out much in week 1. This game was quite intense and really did have the feel of a veritable chess match as Zio E Fraté’s Marco Masciotra and Los Luchadores Rochdi Benabdelkader moved their pieces awaiting the inevitable mistake by the opposition in order to take the lead. It would eventually be Zio E Fraté’s Antonioi Lanni who would make the crucial error as his third interception gave Los Luchadores that one extra possession. On offence, Giovanni “Gio” Lanni and new comer Matt Pettone would score the only two touchdowns that team Uncles and Brothers would put on the board. Los Luchadores really laboured through this one. At times Ed Shoshan had trouble moving the ball. That being said what seemed odd in this game was that once the ball did get rolling it wouldn’t roll for long. Momentum never seemed to build but rather each drive took on its own shape. Being outscored to start the second half, Shoshan and co. felt it necessary to draw up some adjustments. Those adjustments paid off well as they were able to come from behind to win it by a tight margin of 18-12. With just a few minutes left in the half Shoshan crossed up ZEF defenders and hit Rochdi Benabdelkader with a perfect corner pass at the back of the endzone. Chris Rozen and Vince Nardone added touchdowns and Avi Yayon added 2 interceptions as he was the defensive standout in this game.
Drops, Pockets and Noses
To an outside observer, it may as well have been raining purple in Broccaision’s defensive backfield. Every time Monstars quarterback Rod Mashtoub stepped back, cocked his arm and unloaded a deep pass, he found wide open receivers right down the middle of the field. Isiah Allard proved his worth as a full-time addition to this team as he caught 3 passes for 91 yards and scored on all of them. On one particular post route, Allard caught the ball in the middle of the field and the closest receiver was 15 yards away. The game ended 38-20 Monstars but this game was never in doubt.
Other than the defensive backfield clearly being away on Broccasion, there just seemed to be a lack of cohesion and attention to detail as well as a lot of bad luck for Broccaision. Early in the second half, Monstars started to pull away and in the moment where Kristian Cerantola needed it most, his receivers seemed like they could not get open. When they did, they dropped passes that hit them in their hands. Finally Kristian Cerantola was sent off for 5 plays for wearing shorts with pockets. He also needed to leave the game for a short while later on due to apparently breaking his nose for what appears to be the 73rd time. While I have been on record as saying that I do not buy into this team, I will also reserve further judgement until I watch a game where Broccaision is not haunted by calamity.
Rants Reflections and Ravings
- I watched the Lego Batman movie on Netflix this morning. I like that they’re being completely honest about the fact that they’re merely trying to sell toys. Still a very entertaining movie however.
- BearSkins face off against Texas BareManz this week. It promises to be a great matchup between two teams that should be sponsored by male strip clubs.
- Prestige World Wide and Les Eudistes are two front-runners who lost in week one. Of the two I expect Prestige World Wide to bounce back quicker.
- We were welcomed into our new podcast studio this week and our podcasts were as insightful and entertaining as always. Our new home at www.theunclemikeshow.com looks as though it will be our home away from home for the next 14 weeks.
- Men, remember that it’s proper etiquette to walk on the outside when walking with women on the sidewalk.
- Teams, remember that team pictures are this week! Remember to shave, look your best and that no women will actually see these pictures. Feel free to ignore my first to bits of advice.
- When did haircuts get so expensive? Anyone know where the closest Sports Cuts is? If I’m paying that much for a hair cut I should be able to get my sports news at the same stop.
- Les Buddays vs. Zio E Fraté is an interesting matchup this week. Up and comers vs. household names. I wonder who will pull ahead.
- Cardigans went from being grandpa wear to super trendy and entirely fleek (whatever that means). Few things make me happier.
Hung-over Visions of the World of Tomorrow
After all the surprises and surging underdogs in an unpredictable as always first week, Mat Domon and I both took home less than satisfying 7-7 records. Firstly, let me say that the action in our division in week 1 was absolutely phenomenal. I don’t mind going 7-7 if it means getting all this incredible action. That being said, if I couldn’t predict what would happen this week, I have serious doubts about Mat Domon heading forward. Maybe one year Rob will pair me with a journalist who is worthy of my company. Feel free to taunt Mat and insult his picks @MathieuDomonFPF.
