35+ FPF: Season Kickoff Through Mid-Season
Welcome back to the wonderful world of 35+ FPF Football, where some of the greats and not so greats find themselves still trying to hold on to those glory years. 35+ FPF Football celebrates its 9th season this go around and looks forward to continuing to grow as the some of the mainstays of the league get older and older!
Yes, it’s mid-season and this is the 1st article. My bad.
Let’s follow along from the season kickoff to today, let’s start by checking the Winter 2025 Teams and who makes up the Draft and Legends Divisions.
35+ FPF Legends Division returns with usual revolving doors of teams which seems to be it’s blessing and its curse. For Winter 2025, we drop down to 4 teams from 5 last season. The only official returning franchise is the Pacemakers who have been a long-time 35+ Legends stalwarts, Bearskins have morphed into Snowmelting.ca and we welcome TC-OLD and Creaky Joints to the Legends division. Creaky Joints gets the award for the most appropriate name for the 35+ division.
35+ FPF/KTFL Draft Division returns and while we lost a Legends team, we add a 5th to the draft division for the first time ever or at least in a long time. Incorporating a couple byes into the schedule here is a welcome addition for all the old dudes and the sore knees and souls. The Winter KTFL season is an extension of the Kirkland Touch Football League which plays in the fall in, you guessed it, Kirkland. If you are randomly reading this article out of boredom and live in Kirkland, reach out to me as we are always looking for Kirkland residents to join the league. The team names are the Jersey sponsors for the Fall League.
Week 5 Standings Roundup
Legends World: The Snow isn’t melting; it’s on fire as Snowmelting.ca stands tall at the top of the Legends division with a 5-1 record. While they hold the top record 3 of their wins are by 5 points or less, 2 of them being 1-point victories, converts matter! Everyone here has won a game, so while Snowmelting sits at the top; of the 10 games played, 50% were one by 1 TD or less so it really is anyone’s division with a strong 2nd half performance. Not surprisingly in 35+. All teams in this division score a lot, only 2 sub-25 point offensive performances all season so far. Defense gets harder as you get older! The schedule maker worked a nice 2-week bye for the whole division between Feb 8 and Feb 23, so the old bones have a bit of rest mid-season.
Draft World: A couple teams owning the top spot as BroadyWindsor and Paramount are tied with strong 4-1 records. Both teams lighting it up with an average of 40 points per game on offence and holding it down on defense only giving up approximately 28 points per game. That’s the winning formula any which way you look at it. The bottom 3 teams need to find out a way to slow down those offences, as they try to avoid the 4-5 play-in playoff game. The Draft Division is known for it’s playoff upsets so the chess match during the season is important to find those little keys to expose in the playoffs.
Top Guns after Week 5
Lots of tight races in all categories so it’s anyone’s chance to take the lead in the 2nd half of the season
Legends QB = Dylan Taylor and Sean Avraam are at the top leading all QBs with 22 TDs each. Clearly the issue with TC-OLD isn’t the offence!
Draft QB = No shock here with The Rainmaker Ryan Kastner leading in TD’s and Yards, but Sean Avraam having a great season in both leagues at QB as his 142.1 QBR shines right behind in second place in stats.
Legends Receiver = Rich Humes leads the pack here with 8 TD’s and 354 Yards, but Kenton Lowe and Chris Millar right there with 8 TD’s as well each, just a few less yards at this point in the season.
Draft Receiver = Brian “Philly” Martin jumps ahead of usual suspects Vince Nardone and Dom Tossi, to lead all receivers with 10 TD’s. He has less yards than the others at the top of the stats, so he’s definitely Ryan’s go to Red Zone choice, defenses take note!
Legends Defensive Player = Kenton Lowe making his case for 2-way player of the year leading with 3 INT’s and 10 tackles.
Draft Defensive Player = Perennial 2-way player of the year Vince Nardone leads with 5 INT’s while Wayne Burke & Cory Sim-Robertson shine with 15 Tackles each.
Legends Rusher = 3 sacks for Chris Brockwell put him at the top of the charts and probably makes him a rusher for fall KTFL!
Draft Rusher = FPF Hall of Famer and soda pop enthusiast G.M. Kolethras owns the top spot with 5 sacks.
Random Thoughts on the way out
- How do you let Saquon walk away? Poor Giants Fans
- Good for Hurts, screwed at Bama to a Superbowl Ring.
- Saturday aside, 11pm flag games really suck, but the field availability issue for many leagues and associations is a real thing.
- I miss the Lachine complex.
- SNL 50 documentary about their musical guests was outstanding.
- Watch The Pitt, best new show of the year so far. Tied with Landman.
Thanks for stopping by and reading along, next article will be before the playoffs and hopefully sooner than that.
Enjoy the snow, writing this in the heart of the Sunday Storm, it’s bad out there. Drive Safe.
See you on the field
