5v5 Comp: Madness Unleashed & A Warm Welcome to U18 Teams

No team is safe, no lead is comfortable, and no stat line is too outrageous. Explosive offences, stifling defences, and plenty of back-and-forth battles, this division is delivering the top competition in FPF. Let’s dive into the latest results, the biggest performances, and the games that will shake up the standings moving forward!

Who Showed Up, Who Fell Short

Braves Shut Down Roos’ in a Defensive Masterclass

The Roos’, formerly known as the Kangaroos last fall season, looked like the team to beat. However, their championship hopes came crashing down in the finals against the Braves, suffering a 36-6 blowout. In that game, Daniel Lazzara struggled immensely, throwing for just 98 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Fast forward to the new winter season, and it was déjà vu. In a highly anticipated season opener, the Roos’ faced the Braves once again, only to relive their nightmare. The Braves’ defence took control, shutting out the Roos’ 27-0, picking up right where they left off. Lazzara‘s struggles continued, as he was limited to just 61 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

The Braves‘ defence ensured there was no breathing room for the Roos’. Over their last two consecutive meetings, Lazzara has combined for just 159 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions—an uncharacteristic performance for a quarterback of his caliber. The question now is: Are the Braves Lazzara’s kryptonite?

Team Quebec U18A Takes the Battle of Quebec

Welcome to the 5v5 Comp division, both Team Quebec U18 squads! I love the competitiveness and ambition to join this high-talent division, especially since their team ratings and experience would have allowed them to compete in lower 5v5 divisions such as Recreational or Intermediate. With U18 players joining the Competitive division, the future of the league and its talent is in great hands.

Team Quebec U18A secured their first win of the season in a close 33-30 victory over Team Quebec U18B. Markus D’Alessandro played efficiently at QB, completing 8 of 11 passes for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns, while James Harrison made a huge impact with 2 receiving touchdowns. Meanwhile, Raphael Gadbois of U18B put up an incredible fight, throwing for 200 passing yards and 5 touchdowns, but his team fell just short. Wide receiver Dave Lileka Bolombe also had a monster game, racking up 113 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns, proving that this team has serious playmakers to watch out for. U18B is now 0-1, while U18A evens their record at 1-1.

Braves Fall in a Shootout, Flag moi L’sac Makes a Statement

The much-anticipated showdown between Braves and Flag moi L’sac lived up to the hype, with Flag moi L’sac pulling off a 37-31 victory. Alex Nadeau-Piuze was in complete command, throwing for 301 passing yards and 6 touchdowns, while Samuel Nadeau-Piuze was practically unguardable, hauling in 11 receptions for 131 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Braves put up a fight with Mike Pierrecin delivering 11 receptions for 133 receiving yards and 2 scores, but they just couldn’t contain Flag moi L’sac’s relentless attack. With this win, Flag moi L’sac moves to 2-1 and strengthens their case as the top contender.
