Semi-Finals for Women’s Division
Welcome to the second-to-last article of the season! The semi-finals for the women’s division are happening today, in just a few hours at the Laval Field. As predicted last week, all four of my predictions were correct: Subzero, Red Nation, BRUTES, and Vortex are all moving on to the semi-finals. A huge thank you to all the teams that played hard this season—your effort and determination have been incredible. For those teams who didn’t make it to the semi-finals, we hope to see you back next season!
Subzero vs Red Nation
This is going to be an exciting matchup between two powerhouse teams in the women’s division. Both Subzero and Red Nation have been staples of the league for years and continue to be top contenders year after year in their respective divisions. Today, these two teams will face off with a spot in the final on the line.
Red Nation will undoubtedly bring their A-game to the field, especially given that this could be their final game of the season. With the experience and chemistry they’ve built over several seasons, they’re more than capable of competing at a high level. Quarterback Allyson Sobol is known for using her receivers’ height to her advantage, especially when they leap to make plays in the air. This height advantage has been a huge weapon for Red Nation, but today they may face some difficulty, as Subzero also boasts tall, athletic players capable of making interceptions and big plays.
The two teams met during the regular season, but Red Nation suffered a tough 40-0 loss to Subzero. It was an unusual game for Red Nation, as Allyson had her usual receiving corps, but they were unable to find the end zone. In fact, Allyson was intercepted five times during the game, which was uncharacteristic of her play. However, I’m sure Red Nation has learned from their mistakes and will be extra vigilant today, determined not to repeat the same errors.
Playing against Subzero is always a challenge. They have a well-oiled offense and defense, and their playbook has been effective against any opponent they’ve faced. With Sara Parker at quarterback, Subzero has a leader with the experience and vision to read the field and find open receivers. Her ability to make precise decisions under pressure is a key asset for the team. On offense, Subzero’s receiving corps is exceptionally fast, agile, and capable of outmaneuvering any defense, making them a constant threat. But it’s not just their offense that stands out—on defense, Subzero is just as formidable. Their ability to read plays and react quickly puts immense pressure on opposing quarterbacks, often forcing them into tough decisions and mistakes. This combination of offensive and defensive prowess makes Subzero one of the toughest teams to beat.
Prediction: Subzero
Vortex vs BRUTES
This match is shaping up to be another close one, with both Vortex and BRUTES bringing plenty of experience to the table. Both teams have quarterbacks who have been playing for a long time and know how to adapt to their opponents, calling plays that will exploit weaknesses in the defense.
Vortex won the regular season matchup between these two teams, with a 38-12 victory over BRUTES. During that game, Vortex’s quarterback, Maude Lacasse, leaned heavily on her star receiver, Laurence Pontbriand, who proved to be a dynamic weapon on offense. It’s understandable why Maude would target Laurence so frequently, given her ability to make plays downfield. However, the key for Vortex today will be neutralizing Laurence and forcing Maude to look for other options. If Vortex’s defense can limit Laurence’s impact, it will put pressure on Maude to adapt her strategy on the fly.
As for Vortex, the skilled players on this team make it easy for Sandrine to rely on her teammates. They have a combination of speed and agility, with the ability to juke defenders and get open, which in turn makes Sandrine’s reads much easier. It’s a team full of talent, consistently bringing their best to the table every time they play, to which we will see today. It will be up to the defense of les BRUTES to find their weakness and use it against them.
Both teams know their weaknesses from the regular season encounter, and both will be working hard to correct them. With a spot in the finals up for grabs, the intensity will undoubtedly be high. Every player knows that this game is a must-win, and the winner will advance to the championship.
Prediction: Vortex
