Tier 1 Season Recap & Playoff Preview

Season Recap:

1. DA Braves (8-2-0)

DA Braves are the regular season champions this fall, with a dominant record of 8-2-0, they showcased an elite offence and defence. Scoring an impressive 386 points while only allowing 232, their +154 differential speaks volumes about their dominance within Tier 1. Quarterback Jonathan Maheu is as sharp as ever and has his team locked in. Jean-Daniel Chevalier and Gabriel-Charles Dabe Champagne have been nothing short of fantastic on both sides of the ball. This is a dangerous team and should be considered the favourite to win this fall championship.

2. Run it Once (7-3-0)

Run it Once did their best to catch Da Braves but ended up finishing just behind them. With 361 points scored and a respectable +78 point differential, this team had a great season.

Quarterback Jeff Rosenblatt put on a strong performance this season, Rosenblatt finished with the most passing yards and touchdowns. With 1 attempt and 8 yards Rosenblatt really did “Run It Once” this season. Manu Allard-Roy, Jerome Hovington, Paul Lapierre and James Drysdale all deserve major credit as well, they contributed on both sides of the ball at a very high level.

3. Vengeance (6-4-0)

Vengeance secured a solid third-place finish. They ended the season with a positive point differential (+23), proving they were a tough team to beat. Although their 309 points scored weren’t the highest, their balanced approach helped them edge out opponents when it mattered most. FPF “GOAT” Kevin Wyeth returned this season after taking the spring off. He did however only play 6 games, enough to qualify for the playoffs, but not the most conducive for success at this level. If Wyeth is done missing games, this team is right where it needs to be to make a deep run in these playoffs. Sanders Armand proved himself to be a dangerous redzone target on offence leading his team in touchdowns (10), and a game changer on defence leading his team in interceptions (6).

4. Blessed (5-5-0)

Blessed hovered at .500 throughout the season, finishing with a 5-5-0 record. I think the issue with the team from week 1 was their defence, they have the athletes but for whatever reason they had a very poor season defensively. Quarterback Stephen Harripersaud put together a very impressive season, without him, Blessed easily could have found themselves as a bottom 2 team and maybe even out of a playoff spot. The defence needs to step up now.

5. KGP (4-6-0)

KGP had moments of brilliance this season but they also had low points. Their -64 point differential highlights struggles on the defensive side of the ball. Still, with 272 points scored, the foundation for success is there, especially when you consider they played many games without their complete roster. In 8 games Phil Cutler had a great season, throwing for 35 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 71.8. Ariel Librati shined on both sides of the ball as he led KGP in receiving yards and interceptions.

6. EZW (3-7-0)

EZW endured a challenging season, finishing with a 3-7-0 record. Their -116 point differential shows the difficulties they faced on both sides of the ball. I had high hopes for EZW coming into this season but jumping to Tier 1 is no small task. They should keep their heads high and look to come back stronger next season.

7. Dzod Team (2-8-0)

It was a tough season for Dzod Team, finishing at the bottom with a 2-8-0 record. Their -68 point differential wasn’t the worst, but their 228 points scored were the lowest in the league. This team will undoubtedly be looking to regroup and come back stronger.

Season Highlights

  • Top Offense: DA Braves led the league in scoring with 386 points.
  • Top Defense: DA Braves also had the stingiest defence, allowing just 232 points.
  • Tightest Race: Blessed and Vengeance frequently swapped places in the standings, keeping us on the edge of our seats.

Playoff Preview

Quarter Finals

Vengeance Hosts EZW

Number 3 Vengeance take on number 6 EZW. This game features a lot of veterans on both teams, however Vengeance has a lot more tier 1 or division 1 experience. I believe this game will be close in the first half with both teams exchanging scores, but ultimately Kevin Wyeth and Vengeance will prove to be too much for this EZW team to handle. I predict a 1 score game going into halftime but getting out of hand in the second half. EZW would need to be flawless if they want to pull off an upset.

Final prediction: Vengeance 42 EZW 26

Blessed Hosts KGP

Number 4 Blessed will play host to number 5 KGP in what is sure to be a high scoring game. Both teams come into this game with bottom 3 defences, and when with full rosters have the ability to put up big numbers on offence. A recipe for a high scoring game no doubt! KGP has beaten Blessed in both of their previous matchups in the regular season, will they do it a third time? Will Blessed figure it out? A lot of questions will be answered in what is sure to be a very entertaining game.

Final prediction: Blessed 46 KGP 40
