The Women are back and better!

A new season has begun for the women’s division, and while it’s often a period where we lose several teams as our female athletes transition to their CEGEP or university seasons, we’re pleasantly surprised to have 9 teams registered this season. With only one division, this means teams that were previously in Women’s A are now competing with those in the lower bracket. It will be intriguing to see how the games unfold.

For the returning teams, we have several familiar names: Vortex, Subzero, Red Nation, Wolfpack, BRUTES, and Les Louves Du Nord.

We also have some new faces and returning teams that have been absent for a few seasons. The Mercenaries, formerly known as “X&X” with a similar lineup, are back. Les Crocs have moved from another league to join ours, seeking a new and challenging competition. Finally, Ghosted, which has returned to the league with Laury-Ann Potvin as quarterback, is another team to watch.

In the first week of games, the scores were quite decisive, giving us an early glimpse of the top contenders in this division. Here’s a look at the standout players to keep an eye on from each team:

Vortex

Subzero

Vortex boasts a stellar combination of players with exceptional skills. While it’s tough to single out one player, Annie Tyers Lagacé stands out statistically. As the top target for quarterback Sandrine, she catches everything thrown her way and has an impressive ability to get open. Her offensive stats make her the key receiver to watch.

Red Nation

Geraldine Cabillo-Abante is a remarkable athlete who has quickly adapted to flag football despite it not being her primary sport. Her speed and catching ability make her a serious threat—if she’s not closely guarded, she’s likely to score.

Mercenaries

Frida Llaguno is a versatile player to watch on both sides of the ball. Despite her smaller stature, she’s effective at catching passes and defending against opponents. Her agility and hands make her a valuable asset.

Les Crocs

Les Crocs are a new addition with athletes not widely known, which might work to their advantage. Koralie Leduc is a player to watch, both offensively and defensively. Her physical play and ability to read the field make her a key asset.

Les Louves Du Nord

Although Les Louves Du Nord is a returning team, the roster consists of new players. Based on current stats, Jenessa Cadichon emerges as a key player. Averaging more than 10 yards per catch, she is clearly a primary target for her quarterback, and we can expect her to make significant contributions as the season progresses.

Subzero is another team with a wealth of talent, having represented us in Finland for Team Canada and achieving notable rankings. Caroline Moquin-Joubert is a standout player, known for her smooth route-running, speed, and physical play. Her ability to box out opponents and secure the ball makes her a significant offensive threat.

Wolfpack

Marielle Paradis is a standout player, consistently excelling on both offense and defense. She gains significant yards per catch and demonstrates excellent defensive skills with her ability to read plays and make interceptions.

BRUTES

BRUTES is a team rich in talent with a cohesive unit. Laurence Pontbriand, who recently transitioned from Subzero to BRUTES, is a key player. Her height, combined with her football knowledge and experience, makes her a formidable opponent on both offense and defense.

Ghosted

Jessica Daoust is a player to keep an eye on. Despite her unassuming appearance, she makes impressive catches and has contributed significantly to her team’s performance. Her height allows her to reach for balls effectively, and she has already demonstrated her playmaking ability in their first game.
