Keeping up with the Joneses in Division B! An action packed Sunday for Week 8!

Welcome back! Missed everyone last week and with only 3 weeks left in the regular season, it’s about time we check and give our opinion on the Awards race. Inspired by Iggy and Moe discussing milestones and records on this past CALLING THE AUDIBLE, I want to focus on Div B and see who will be adding another notch on their award belt!

I’m unfortunately gone for my last 2 games of the season despite only missing Week 10, so you’ll get a small break from my articles and me running you down on the field! There were some upsets and close calls in both Week 7 and 8, so let’s dive in before my fingers start cramping!

I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE:

  • KISS MY INLAWS get a free 120 points thanks to their 2 games against HATEFUL EIGHT. I’m not sure if any other teams will be able to keep up, but with essentially 320 points in 7 games and most teams being 40 points behind, as long as KMI win against ONESTOP and EZW, we should be able to retain the #1 spot! SILENT TICKLERS are boasting one of the stronger defences of the league and will need to bring their A-game to stop BRUINS. They play them twice in the last 3 weeks and *fingers crossed*, they get a win so that KMI secure the top. BRUINS have been on a tear of the division, so will not be making it easy for anyone – ask HEAVENLY SONS.
  • EZW took a big hit in Week 6 when they lost to THE INFANTRY! Last time I checked out this team, they were on a bit of a losing streak: Losing to KMI, then an upset by ONESTOP, and after a hard fought game against HEAVENLY SONS, they were handed their 3rd loss in a row. I thought that the INFANTRY had been beaten back and would find themselves in the lower rungs of the division, but they were determined to turn it around! I wasn’t sure if Jeanslee Alexis would step up as the permanent QB – and he did win them the game against BEER BELLY BRIGADE – but I’ve also been seeing more and more of Will Power behind the snap! Putting the revolving door of QBs aside, INFANTRY are now on a 2 win-streak! Beating B.B.B. and now a big win against Jeremy White and EZW, will INFANTRY be able to get revenge on HEAVENLY SONS? Who will show up at QB – Jeanslee or Will? Continuing the streak until playoffs would mean a definite shot at climbing to the top of the division!
  • Something has got to be in the water, cause SILENT TICKLERS aren’t all that SILENT! What a close game last week against KMI! It came down to the wire, which makes me nervous about having to see them in the playoffs again. They are 4-3 and with a very important game against the BRUINS coming up, it will be crucial for them to set the tone early. I think they honestly hang with any team in the division currently, so don’t underestimate them! Jordan Panetta is a surprisingly shifty QB who can easily run for yards if needed. Pair this with dual threats like Marty Freedman & Jack Antacki, and with only 173 points allowed in 7 games (the lowest so far), they have proven to be one of the stronger defences in the division, showing they can both march and defend the field well. Good luck to all their opponents!
  • Coming off of their INFANTRY loss, I thought EZW might be able to pull one over on ONESTOP, but not having Jeremy White, hurt their offence, and they were unable to keep up. Ted-Olivier Pierre did his best to contest the strong ONESTOP team, but 3 TDs would not be enough. ONESTOP was held to 4 TDs themselves, but a PICK-6 from Charles Cossette was what pushed ONESTOP ahead and out of range! EZW have been hot and cold for me this season, but they still have time to turn it around! I hope Mr. White is not injured and can finish off the season, because they have 2 tough games left and risk finishing 5-5.
  • I don’t really know what to say about this….. Ok. I know James Drydale is a great player, and you’ll definitely feel it when he isn’t there… but I know HEAVENLY SONS. I’ve played them… I don’t know how ANYBODY was able to score 9 TDS on them!? Rocco only completed 18 passes, apparently, 50% of them were TDs. I’m not sure if the SONS just had a rough game (everyone does at some point), if the BRUINS are actually just that dangerous, or a combination of the 2? It seems like Rocco will be the go to QB moving forward, so are we to expect a repeat performance in their next 3 games? A win against EZW could give BRUINS the push they need against the TICKLERS, having both games back-to-back, might tire them out! EZW are also looking for a big win themselves, so will not be taking it easy! Get ready for a game that has the potential to spark a team’s fire, as well as quench it!

PLAYER AWARDS (SPECULATIVE):

QB:

It has been one hell of a season for QBs. No one has hit the 40 TD mark yet, but it looks like everyone in the top 5 will hit 30-35+! Currently, only Ben McMahon has been able to pass the 30 TD threshold and is top 3 in Yards. Jordan Panetta and Iggy are both neck and neck, fighting for 2nd place, while hoping to push past Ben in the last few games! What might hurt Iggy’s chances for top spot are his 2 games against HATEFUL EIGHT. The league might be able to find a replacement for our game on July 9th, but having not recorded stats for last week means a potential 5-7 TDs gone, and if we don’t get a game on the 9th… even worse! Jordan, on the other hand, is playing BRUINS twice and HEAVENLY SONS once. If he can get 5 TDs per game-ish (15-16 TDs total), it would push him to about 45 TDs total and I’m not sure Iggy will be able to keep up. With 3 games left, I think Ben will need some big games to keep his lead! A minimum of 4-5 TDs per game, but realistically, he will need to capitalise against BEER BELLIES if he wants to stay on Top…

I really want Ben to keep his spot, but the competition is thick! If Iggy can play against a replacement HATEFUL EIGHT team, I think it might be enough for him to sneak into first place; but if not, I think Jordan Panetta will overtake Ben McMahon in their showdown later this season.

OFFENCE:

Well well well, this race is heating up! As it stands, Jerome Hovington is leading in TDs with the least amount of games played. BUT! If one of his games is a STAT-less forfeit against HATEFUL EIGHT, he might indeed fall behind, because Anthony Drysdale is hot on his heels! Anthony has 7 games played (1 more than Jerome), 52 targets (20 more than Jerome), and 572 yards (153 more than Jerome). With 12 TDs to Jerome’s 13, if Jerome doesn’t get that forfeit game of stats and is counted at 7 games played… I would probably give it to Anthony! If Nicolas Curotte can turn it up a notch (and bribe his QB to throw him all the TDS) he may be able to make a decent run at Receiver of the Year, but I’m not seeing Jerome or Anthony slowing down at all. I’d love to give Jerome extra credit for throwing up all these stats while missing a few games, but Mr. Drysdale is technically doing the same. I don’t think this Award will have a clear winner until the last game of the season, but if I have to choose… as much as I would love to give it to my boy Jerome Hovington…

OFFICIAL VOTE: Anthony Drysdale (HEAVENLY SONS)

DEFENCE:

I really subscribe to the motto: “Offence wins games, Defence wins championships”. So, I always advocate separating Rushers from other defensive players, to ensure everyone gets as much highlighting as Offence. Shout out to Gabriel Wiseman, who will probably finish at #1 Rusher in Division B! I’ll be missing our last 2 games and also have the HATEFUL8 forfeit, so don’t think I’m catching up. Jean-Christophe Ferland could give Gabe a run for his money, but already being a game up and 2 sacks behind, I think Gabe’s got it in the bag. As for the rest of our defensive running, let’s check our leaders: I’m a sucker for tackles, and looking at these numbers makes me happy – Fritzgerald Cenatus (dope name) leads with 21 Tackles. Anthony Drysdale also has 21 tackles but he got his in 7 games. Brady Ohanessian and Nicolas Curotte are right behind them with 20 tackles. However, when you move into INTs, it becomes clear who my vote should be. Leading with 4 INTs is Fritzgerald Cenatus, and when you check to see if people are able to keep up with his 5 PDs, you find that a handful of players have 4 PDs, but none of them have the matching INTs or Tackles… I’ll give a shout out to everyone who got a PICK-6, especially Rocco Christiano who is only 1 INT, and PD behind, but Fritz has been a 1-man army! If Rocco can find a way to cram in 3 more INTs, a few more PDs, and a bunch more Tackles… or 1 more PICK-6, I would give it to Rocco. But my gut is telling me I gotta go with –

OFFICIAL VOTE: Fritzgerald Cenatus (EZW)

2-WAY PLAYER:

This one was much harder for me to break down. Did I want to focus on Rocco and his dual performance on QB/Defence? Anthony Drysdale is having an amazing offensive performance, is tied with most tackles (21), and despite not having any INTs, he does have 3 PDs! Definitely in the running in my mind. However, landing on Charles Olivier Vachon, I thought I had finally found my 2-Way player! 10 Tackles, 2 INTs, 2 PDs, and a TD on defence, paired with 10 Offensive TDs and 343 yards in 20 catches makes him a prime candidate for this Award. I would have crowned him too…. Had I not taken one closer look and discovered that Jerome Hovington has the same defensive stats as Charles, but is currently the lead receiver. Even if he doesn’t finish as the #1 receiver he will definitely finish top 3, and despite other players having slightly better defensive stats, none of them have a better combined defence/offence performance than Jerome! Signed, Sealed, Delivered, that’s all folks!
