5 Plays Till Halftime

5 Plays Till Halftime

Week 10

Each week Simon Dagenais will send me 5, rapid-fire questions intended to excite and educate.  I will answer without thinking and see what we’ve got brewing. Feel free to contact Simon at @SimonDagenaisFPF to suggest questions and topics for next week’s article.

Simon- Without taking into account what may and may not happen in the playoffs, what divisions should teams move into next season?

Peeze- This is more complicated a question than it seems on the surface. Some teams are somewhat disposable and were built for one season. Others are teams that are solid, returning to the same division because they do not have the ability to compete at a higher level. Some teams are franchises that have moved up together and are either playing really well or completely out of their depth.

So I think I’m going to take the easy way out on this one. In the past President Campana has said, “If you go 5-5 you’re in the right division. Teams should strive for that.” That being said, we now have a ratings system and cap. My advice is build your team and play the division that you fit in. If you dominate, the burden will be on the league to improve the cap system.

Simon- Which conference will offer the better playoff games?

Peeze- While conference A seems to be the better conference, I see more competitive games in conference B, Experience does well in the playoffs and givn that VPC and Prestige World Wide in the mid/lower part of the rankings means we can see some upsets. The top of the division has teams that few expected to be a top the conference so we will either see some surprising finishes (based on seed) or we will see a team rise to prominence where few believed they could achieve.

Simon- Should FPF implement a kids league? Should there also be a league for our older players 40+.

Peeze- I can’t go into a ton of detail but framework exists that establishes the possibility of offering a recreational league for kids that would include the FPF amenities (media, stats, our awesome officials). However, with the complications that exist with having kids (feeding them, changing them, sending them to college), such as insurance and so on, I would say that of FPF were to go that route, it would not be anytime in the near future. However, I would imagine that it would be a discussion in mid-longrange planning. Was that political enough?

As for an older dude’s league, I think it’s a great idea! Finally a league where everyone will be more or less as slow as I am!

Simon- Would you rather watch beautiful women playing flag football in lingerie or two playmates of your choice engaged in a Jell-O wrestling match?

Peeze- Honestly, I never got the whole wrestling thing. Especially when the view gets obscured by fruit flavored (albeit) somewhat translucent gelatin. Moreover, the angry, squinty face of a woman in wrestling match is not all that appealing. Overall, it reminds me of the many past relationships I had that invariably ended because I forgot her parent’s birthdays, to be home for date night, anniversaries, or to pick her up at the airport.

Now, the former option is more my speed. It combines my love of flag football with my love for scantily clad women. I must say that I think they would get a TV deal much quicker than FPF ever would.

Simon- With many teams on the bubble and trying to get into the playoffs, what is the most exciting matchup this coming week?

Peeze- To be honest I expect the final week of play to keep the status quo more than shale things up. However, given the fact that Los Luchadores can rise up and take the divisional title their game against BD Bandits is particularly interesting. This by extension adds a level of concentration on the Mongoose/Bengals game (especially if Leon Holder quarterbacks for them this week). For that matter the game between Les Blues Branleurs and Da Regiment will also be fun as LBB can play spoilers and a 3 way tie can create some interesting story lines. However, given that, to date Mongoose have only allowed 187 points to date, some blowouts would have to take place to make this situation truly entertaining.

Power Rankings

The development in division 3 has shown that the top 10 teams have been quite static in recent weeks. We are starting to see a separation in what we once that was a conference with a lot of parity. Still I think that the surprises will come in the playoffs. If you disagree with my ranking let me know by tweeting me @PeezeFPF.

  1. Wild Boys (9-0): These guys just look bored. Get the playoffs started already!
  2. BearSkins (9-0): Neil Etinson was shaky this week. Still, they remain undefeated. At this point, a win is a win.
  3. Predators (9-0-1): I thought this team looked a little sluggish to start the season. All systems are now go and they are primed and ready for the post season.
  4. Les Buddays (7-2): The Buddays have looked impressive in every game this season. That includes both losses to undefeated teams.
  5. MetaMayhem (6-3): Perhaps the best team that no one is talking about. There is a lot of talent from lower divisions on this team. They finally look like they’ve adjusted to the higher division speed and they are good to go.
  6. Past Our Prime (6-3): Playing .500 ball since the halfway point, POP is a strong team but will need to step it up to show that they can run with Moose (6-3): Playing all those close games caught up to Moose in week 10. This will either be the wake up call they needed or the beginning of the downward spiral.
  7. Sea Assassins (6-3): They lost Daniel Lazarra for a week. I figure they will be back to their usual selves in week10.
  8. the big dogs. The next step is a potential trap game against Solide.
  9. BD Bandits (6-3): Having won their last three games by a combined 7 points, BD bandits look like they are ready to grind out some wins in the post season.
  • Monstars (6-3): They looked amazing in their win against what was a revitalized Solide team. They have been a little up and down but that’s fine as long as it’s more up than down.

Others receiving votes

This time around, I asked people who actually proof read and edit their work. They told me it was overrated so instead I decided to talk, in depth about some teams who didn`t quite make the cut.

  • Da Regiment (4-5): Despite a close win against a team in disarray Da Regiment are in a decent spot. Their playoff hopes are very much alive and given their head-to-head superiority above Mongoose, Da Regiment can finish as high as 3rd seed in the division.

  • Mongoose (5-4): They seem to have taken the division with a win over Los Luchadores. However, a loss in week 10 and a Da Regiment win will reverse their fate and perhaps keep them out of the playoffs entirely.

  • Broccassion (4-5): As interesting as it is to see 4 Daoust’s on one team Kristian Cerantola is the heartbeat of this team. I fear that once he went down so did their hopes and dreams. Consider this a challenge boys; step it up!

  • VPC (5-4): They dialed 1-800-Louis-Richard to gain some explosiveness this week. That won’t help them in the playoffs however as Richard will not be eligible. They will need to prove that their typical offense is more than 1 dimensional.

  • Snatchers (4-5): They still have a hope. I must say they battled hard against Les Buddays. They face the BearSkins in their final matchup and will need a win to even have a chance of getting into the playoffs.
