35+ FPF/KTFL Week 3 Article

Welcome to Week 3’s weekly write-up of the 35+ division of FPF, for all those playing in the regular divisions, someday you will be shifted out the “complementary” section of the website where legends go to enjoy their retirement years.

An adventure in week 3 as Mother Nature reminded us that she’s in charge and gave us whiteout conditions forcing many to drive 30Km/hour on the highway and smashing through snowbanks to get off at a pitch black Morgan exit.  Is Mother Nature still a She/Mother? I am not up to the latest woke terms, sorry if I offended anyone.

How would the weather affect the games? Some teams definitely played with shorter rosters and players arriving right at game time or even late. Shoutout the Rainmakers who allowed the game to be delayed for Monster’s late 6th player to get dressed so they wouldn’t be short.  Many of the players in 35+ have played/battled/fought against each for 20+ years, while we play to win, always good to see teams work together to ensure we have a fair game.

The kid in the office at Baie D’Urfe’s name is Ben.  Always be nice and say hi to Ben.  Clean up after your team leaves so Ben doesn’t have to clean up our crap. If Ben is happy, we don’t get into trouble with the Soccer Overlords who run the facility. Leave by 11.15 so Ben can go home, Ben has school the next day.

Enough with the pre-amble, let’s get down to the Week 3 action.

Legends Division

Monster 24 – Rainmakers 19

As mentioned above, Rainmakers waited for Monster to have a full lineup, but that kindness didn’t turn into a W as Rainmakers keep it close again but struggle to cross the finish line to victory. Strong performances by their spares, Rosen and Mallais, who both contribute with a TD and INT each.  Stat sheets shows the experience of both sides with multiple receivers and tacklers on both sides.  Monster settles in at 2-1 with the top offence in the division, but also the worst defence statistically so they need to tight up on D to set a clear path to the championship.

Shout out to Addley Dufour, who left early with an ankle issue, hopefully not as bad as feared and he’s back in the game sooner that later.  One of the nicest guys I’ve played with and a heck of a player.

Key Stats – Nothing to specifically call out, but we’ll go with Paul Lapierre’s Fully Completely night with stats in almost all categories, 1 passing completion for a TD, 5 catches including a receiving TD, plus a tackle and INT on defence.

Gladiateurs 31 – Pacemakers 19

Pacemakers take the halftime lead and spread the ball to 8 different receivers ( including a statistical anomaly of Jason completing a pass to himself somehow), but the Gladiateurs move to 2-1 with a strong 2nd half performance. Rossie delivers with 21 completions but Francois Lebeau counters with 5 TD’s on 17 completions and takes his team to victory. Both teams doing it by committee on defence as both teams have 8 players defensively notching stats. This match up in week 6 will be a fun one to watch.

Key Stats – Les jumeaux Alex set the tone with 9 catches, 3 TD’s and 6 tackles between them.

Overall in the legends division, Rainmakers still looking for that first win but a 3 way tie for 1st place with everyone else sitting at 2-1

KTFL Draft Division

Paramount 39 – JMJ 31

In this weeks highest scoring affair, Paramount edges out JMJ 37–31. Chris Olsen hits the end zone 6 times using Jason Rossie’s Pacemaker teammate against him as Scott Binns snags 8 receptions and 2 TD’s. JMJ’s spreads the ball around with 4 different receivers making 4 catches each and an impressive 243 yards for Jason Rossie at QB but the extra INT seems to be the difference here. Cory and Yavar both lead the way on defence for their squads with 5 tackles each.

Key Stats -Chris Olsen 6 TD’s & a defensive INT plus the good G.M. showed up with a strong 2 way performance, 3 tackles, 4 catches, 81 yards and 2 TD’s.

Polvige 19 – FPF 13

Alex Lever steps in at QB for Jeff “My Arm is Sore AF” Rosenblatt, but struggles to connect enough to find the W as Polvige’s picks up their 2nd win.  The always consistent Owy spreads the ball to 7 receivers all with multiple catches, but only finds the endzone 3 times which is enough as the Polvige Purple Reign Defence delivers 3 INT’s and a key first half red zone stop. The game ends with FPF past midfield and threatening but a huge knockdown by Rusher David Ness, followed by a sack by the versatile Gary McMahon seals the victory for Polvige.

Key Stats – Yoni’s as usual strong 2 way game with 8 tackles, 3 catches and 1 TD,  Polvige Defence and their 3 INT’s on D,

And that’s your week 3 roundup, all teams have now played each other once and the rematches begin in week 4. Time to see who learned from the initial confrontations and adapt their games plans and find a way to exact revenge.

And of course, let’s hope no whiteout conditions next week.

Your tip of the week, the best show on Netflix is The Haunting of Hill House, if you like being terrified and not sleeping ever again, this is the show for you. You have been warned.

See you on the field

Thanks
