35+ FPF/KTFL Week 2 Article
Welcome Back to the Golden Age of FPF with the 35+ weekly write up, since last week’s article was a little late, this weeks is earlier so you can enjoy it and savor all the geriatric details before week 3’s action.
Things I learned this Week
I called Tanner Burrell an Old Leaky Tugboat last week and this week, Mr. Wonderful Tanner turns around and picks me off twice. I shouldn’t have been QB but Owy was a little late with work drama. The life of a teacher is always a busy one!
I spell Domenic Tosi’s name wrong and insulted his week 1 stats, he shows up with a strong 2 way game. I can only assume that I filled with him a fury and he brought his A game. I’ll try to reverse motivate a few more this week.
Team pictures are so much easier when so few have any hair left to deal with even looking remotely proper.
The onside kick rule make it’s first appearance this week, no one understands it and it’s too gimmicky, valiant effort by the FPF brass to introduce it and always try new things, but like Mayo on fries, I’ll pass.
Enough chat, let’s dive in to all the exciting action 35+ bought us in Week 2
Legends Division
Monster 45 – Gladiateurs 34
Mr. Peterkin didn’t have the best week 1, in week 2, he reminded FPF who he was. 7 TD’s, 21 receptions and no INT’s, while spreading the ball to 8 different receivers. Domenic Tosi tosses away last week’s blank sheet with a strong 1 way game picking up 2 TD’s on 5 receptions and 3 tackles defensively. A close game where the aforementioned On Side Kick made it’s appearance, but the real difference maker seems to be the games sole INT by Monster’s Craig O’Brien.
Key Stats – Andy’s 7 TD’s, The Alex twins with 6 catches each for Gladiateurs, Simon Rhéaume (Gladiateurs) and Cory Cook (Monster) both defensive leaders for their team with 5 tackles each. Psst Simon, might be time to update your FPF photo, I’ll get you .35 cents for a comb.
Pacemakers 18 – Rainmakers 12
A low scoring affair, but a successful defensive day for both teams, with only 5 TD’s against and zero converts between them. Rainmakers keep it close but still struggle to score enough to take the W, but with all the years of experience on the roster, it will be sooner than later when the points start to “rain” in. Chris Brockwell (Pacemakers) and Addley Dufour (Rainmakers) lead their teams with 5 catches and a TD each. When I read a boxscore, the first thing I check is how many receivers got targets, when a team spreads the ball it makes it hard for defensives to cover, here we have 7 receivers for Pacemakers and 8 for Rainmakers getting target but in the end it didn’t results in many TD’s.
Key Stats – Not much on offence on either side to point out, Justin (Pacemakers) and Rey (Rainmakers) lead their defensive squads with 4 tackles each
KTFL Draft Division
Paramount 44 – FPF 30
Paramount forget how to score in the 2nd half of last week’s game, but they didn’t forget this week. Chris Olsen with a clean sheet with 6 TD’s and an impressive 16 for 19. Rob White picks up an offensive and defensive touchdown, if we only had punts, I’m sure he would have run one back as well. FPF sees Jayde’s Daddy step in at QB for an absent Rosenblatt, Yoni proves he can play with anyone and racks up 10 catches and 130 yards. Both teams settle in a 1-1 after this week and looks like we have parity in the Draft division which is always great to see.
Key Stats – Cory Sim-Robertson’s impressive 8 tackles, Chris Olsen’s fantastic Completion percentage of 84.2% and Yoni’s 2 way play with 10 catches and 5 tackles.
JMJ 46 – Polvige 32
Last week, I mentioned Jason Rossie needed to find chemistry with new receivers and he found it this week. JMJ torches Polvige’s Purple Reign defence for 7 TD’s spreading the ball to 7 receivers. If you throw 7 Td’s, spread the ball and no INT’s, you win 99% of the time. Polvige’s 19th string QB gifts 2 INT’s to JMJ which is the turning point of the game, unfortunately by the time Owy made his appearance the hole was dug a little too deep. As mentioned above, parity is here and both teams now sit at 1-1.
Key Stats – Jason Rossie 7 TD’s, Koko B Tanner with 2 INT’s + 2 TD’s and birthday boy Chris Rosen with a strong 2 way game with 5 catches for 91 yards, 2 TD’s and 3 tackles.
That’s all the excitement for this week, next week everyone plays a new team again and then the re-matches begin and we can see how teams evolve throughout the season. Thanks for taking your valuable time reading this finely written piece of nirvana.
Did I miss a key stat? Probably. Did I watch all the games? Nope. Did I spell a name wrong? For Sure. Is there some grammar issues due to me writing and re-writing this article over a few days? 100% (Sorry Leo) Does the above make sense? Hopefully. Did you expect much from me? I hope not. Either way, I’ll be back next week whether you like it or not.
See you on the field
Thanks
Dave
