35+ FPF: From the Field to the Page, Weeks 12&13 in Review
35+ FPF: From the Field to the Page, Weeks 12&13 in Review
Lots of action in the past couple weeks as the regular season winds down for both leagues.
Snowstorms and 15-degree days in the same week. Cool.
Draft and Legends follow slightly different paths to the championship games, so we have 1 regular season game for Draft to cover and a couple for Legends. Let’s see how the action plays out for weeks 12 & 13.
WEEK 12
Week 12 35+ Legends
We start with an interesting question here, who is Josh Currie? The answer: a winner. The change at pivot is clearly working for Everything Hurts as they beat Team Ethnik Sr 25-19. A close one, but EH is officially on a 2-game winning streak. Ethnik’s Simon Dufort has a solid outing with 5 Tackles and a PD, but over on EH Defense, Mathieu Boucher stepped it up just a little more with the same 5 tackles but a key INT in this close match-up. Offensively it was the Josh and Anthony show for EH, as Anthony Siggia had a game with 8 catches and a TD. Watch out for this pairing if EH can keep it going and sneak into the playoffs.
The Greyhawks looked solid the first half of the season going 3-2, but they hit a 4-game losing skid here dropping a 21-12 to the 1st place Pacemakers. The Greyhawks defense has been good enough to take home wins, but the offence has completely stalled, never breaking the 20-point mark in the past 4 games. Neither pivot here has a stellar day with 8 and 12 completions only, you won’t win many games with that few completions. Greyhawks now put themselves in a doe or die situation coming up in week 14.
Week 12 35+ Draft
In the regular season finales for 35+, we have the 2 bottom teams facing off against the 2 top teams, so what would be the most interesting result? That’s right, double upsets!
In game 1, we have FPF finally slaying the JMJ dragon in their 4th meeting of the season. After 3 pretty good beatings by JMJ, FPF squeezes out a 24-19 victory. Much like the last game, the Rossie-Nardone combo is heating up at the right time for FPF. JMJ finally got back Scott Binns who contributes with a TD, but the FPF defense keeps the JMJ out of the end zone just enough for the win. Hopefully this was a case of lessons finally learned after 3 losses as both these teams are set to meet up in the semi finals.
On the other side of the curtain, much like FPF, On Rock removes the Broady Windsor monkey from their back and punch out the 39-22 win. Jeff Rosenblatt steps in at pivot for On Rock and does his usual thing, score often. 5 TD’s to 5 different receivers, but it’s the defence for On Rock who capitalize on BW miscues and deliver with 4 INT’s including 1 by Dave Weiss for a TD. A rare rough day for the 1st place Broady Windsor offense, but we shall see if this was a blip or a foreshadowing, as both these teams are set to meet in the semi finals on April 8th.
This marks the end of the 35+ Draft season, semi finals Aug 8th @ Saint Laurent
WEEK 13
Week 13 35+ Legends
Terrible. A forfeit here by Bearskins. Ethink gets the 60-0 win. Don’t be a captain if you can’t field a team. You mess it up for everyone. Ruins the Standings, Ruins the Stats races, Ruins people’s enjoyment of the league. Everyone pays more than enough to play in this great league, and they deserve to get all their money’s worth and more importantly play the game we all love. Thousands of players in this league, 1 post and you’ll have enough to play. Be Better.
Over in game 2, we have the final regular season game for both Pacemakers and Team Ethnik Sr. and it’s Pacemakers who take the victory with a close 31-24 victory. Pacemakers Shane Williams is the difference maker with a pick 6 to go along with 5 tackles. Very strong showing for Team Ethnik before the silly season begins as they need to play spoiler and upset Pacemakers or Bearskins in the semis. Aside from the 2 INT’s, they seem to be hitting a stride for playoff.
Week 13 35+ Draft
No games here as there was a bye week due to Easter. Semi Finals up next for 35 Draft.
Post Week 13 Standings Analysis
1 set of games remains for the Legends division, with 2 teams having completed their seasons already. Pacemakers have locked up first place and Bearskins a lock at #2. Everything Hurts is the team to watch here, they have a double header to finish up the season, with 2 wins they could skyrocket from 5th to 3rd, but no matter what, the final game of the season against Greyhawks is the one that matters. Whoever wins is in and the loser goes home. Nice to see after a long season that the final game is everything. Ethnik currently sits in 3rd and could potentially drop to 4th but is already guaranteed a playoff spot.
Draft Division now heads into Semi Finals, with (4) On Rock @ (1) Broady Windsor & (3) FPF @ (2) JMJ. All these teams faced each other 4 times during the regular season with the top seeds holding a 3-1 record. These teams definitely know each other, and the underdogs have tasted victory so there are definitely possibilities for upsets on Monday April 8th. For JMJ/FPF, you have a ton of QB experience so it will come down to the battle between Tosi/Sim-Robertson and Nardone/Bicknell, whichever group can deliver more offence will be the difference maker. Over in On Rock/BW, On Rock defense forced a ton on turnovers last week and their defense will need to be stellar again, as Avraam/Gualano will score, just need to limit how much. Good luck to all teams in the playoffs.
Randomness
PWHL so far is doing it right and good to finally see a league being properly represented by all the networks.
That PWHL Molson ad was fire.
Congrats to the NCAA Women’s tourney for putting on some great games and again the networks for hyping it properly.
Habs beat Avalanche and Florida, I guess they don’t understand the Tank concept.
If you don’t want to sleep again, watch the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix.
Forfeits, SMH.
Patio season is almost here.
See you on the field.
