Division 4A: Week 10 Recap – Big Games, Fantasy Football & Matteo Gerardi
Week 10 was filled with close matchup, blowouts and teams making their mark towards a post-season berth. Out of the 16 teams, only 12 will get a chance to raise the 4A banner in May. As it stands, Bible Study, Nighthawks, Team Ethnik and The Last Chance are on the outside looking in. Luckily for them, it’s a close race and a win of two for any of these teams can easily jump them back into contention. Remember to get your 5 games or have your medical note sent to FPF for players and that goes for all players. I have some headlines to discuss followed by a fantasy lineup ahead of Week 11 with DPOY candidate Sam Anastasopoulos. To wrap things up, I have a Q&A with Ambush’s Matteo Girardi, a talented receiver who has made his return after a season ending surgery last Fall.
Week 10 Headlines
Trapstars wins over Nut N’ Run in GOTW
Trapstars and Nut N’ Run met Saturday evening in Brossard for a highly anticipated matchup. Both teams are known for putting up points, with quarterbacks Ryan Garber and Nicolas Katerelos leading two explosive offences.
I wasn’t recording this game initially, but from across the Brossard complex it was clear this one was heating up when I moved the camera for this one. Noah Lieblein was torching the Nut N’ Run defence, finishing with four touchdowns and several highlight-reel plays. He also added the lone interception of the game.
QB Ryan Garber had another strong outing, throwing five touchdown passes without an interception in the win. On the other side, Nicolas Katerelos put together a solid performance as well, finishing with four touchdown passes and 167 yards in the loss.
For Nut N’ Run, it felt like they were constantly playing catch-up. There were a few moments where it seemed like they might finally grab the lead and take control of the game, but they were never quite able to get over the hump. Still, with their only losses coming against Ambush and Trapstars, they remain strong contenders in my eyes — perhaps just a tier below the very top teams.
As for Trapstars, there were no issues with roster availability this week, and they continue to lead Division 4A with an impressive 7–1 record.
Rick and Marty Dismantle Short-Handed Ambush
On Saturday night, Ben McMahon injured his knee in a Division 2 game, making it clear he wouldn’t be ready the next day against Rick and Marty. Ambush brought in talented two-way player Anthony Drysdale for reinforcement, especially with the Girardi brothers also unavailable.
Gab Dabé-Champagne didn’t have his usual roster around him, and it showed. Facing Michael Schiller who is arguably the only rusher capable of consistently disrupting the tall quarterback in the pocket, didn’t help either. Schiller dominated defensively with three sacks, two pass deflections, and even added a touchdown in the win.
Rick and Marty also welcomed back Noah Groper, and his return made an immediate impact. He led the offence with six receptions and a touchdown, helping Marty Freedman regain rhythm with his top target.
For Ambush, Phil Roberts scored their lone touchdown, while Dabé-Champagne struggled in what was likely his toughest game of the season.
Am I worried about Ambush? Not really. If everyone is healthy, especially McMahon, they remain a championship contender. It was a tough loss, but I expect them to bounce back.
As for Rick and Marty, they had been trending downward in recent weeks, so it was encouraging to see them play more like the talented team we know they can be.
Nighthawks Are Heading Towards The Wrong Direction
One team I’m concerned about is the Nighthawks. They’re currently allowing 38.8 points per game and sit at 2–6. Offensively, the numbers don’t reflect that record. Fabrice Robillard and Yvan Salomon have combined for 37 touchdowns and just nine interceptions, production that usually leads to a much better record.
The issue has been on defence. The Nighthawks are tied for the fewest interceptions in the division with four and rank in the bottom half in sacks. Without turnovers or big defensive momentum plays, it’s difficult for even strong offences to keep up week after week.
The Nighthawks played twice this week and, despite scoring 70 points, allowed 100. That simply won’t get the job done. I filmed their matchup against the Ducks, and Antoine Chabot was able to throw the ball almost wherever he wanted.
Once again, the offence wasn’t the problem. Recently committed Nomades player Victoria Bouchard led that game with seven receptions and three touchdowns in the 47–37 loss, showcasing her talent in the men’s division.
The Nighthawks returned Sunday evening to face Nut N’ Run but couldn’t keep up in another shootout, losing 53–36. Reginald Prophete continued his strong season and now sits at 14 touchdowns on the year.
With two games remaining against The Penetrators and Snowdon Deli Degens, it’s tough to see the Nighthawks grabbing one of the final playoff spots unless their defence can catch those teams on an off night.

Q&A with a returning Matteo Gerardi
For those who don’t know you yet, what’s your background and how did you get started playing in FPF?
“I didn’t grow up playing organized football — it was mostly just something we’d throw around in the backyard. My brother Dante started playing in FPF with Ben and Phil, and when they were putting a team together I decided to join. That ended up being my first real experience playing organized football, and I quickly fell in love with both the sport and the league. What I enjoy most about FPF is the community, the friendships, and the competition.”
Your brother Dante has been your QB for several seasons across different divisions in FPF. Does the chemistry you two have come from playing together long before joining the league?
“Yeah, I think a lot of it just comes from us being brothers. We’ve always been competitive with each other growing up, so that connection comes pretty naturally. Since my first FPF season in 2024 we’ve been playing together, and we understand how each other plays, which makes it easy to trust each other on the field.”
You won your first 5v5 championship with Ambush in Fall 2024. What was that experience like, winning a final with your friends in only your second season playing?
“It was an awesome experience. We were really just a group of friends who put a team together to have fun and get a workout in. Most of us didn’t have a ton of football experience, but as the season went on we started clicking and ended up pulling off the win. Doing that with a group of close friends made it even better.”
You’ve recently returned from a serious injury from last season and now have a new QB for Ambush in Gab Champagne. What have you noticed about him and his football IQ in the short time you’ve played together?
“Coming back from the injury has mostly been about trusting my shoulder again and getting comfortable playing with it. As for Gab, he’s a really smart QB. He reads defenses well, knows where to put the ball, and understands how to manage the clock and drive the field when it matters.”
When healthy, I’d say you’re one of the most underrated offensive weapons in the division. What would you say to people who might not be familiar with your game?
“First off, I appreciate the compliment. I still feel pretty new to the league and I’m honestly just trying to keep learning and improving every season. I try to be a team player and play wherever I’m needed, whether that’s on offense or defense. At the end of the day I’m out there because I love the game and I enjoy competing and spending time with a great group of teammates.”
With only three games remaining in the season, what are you and your team aiming for to finish the year strong?
“The focus right now is just finishing the season strong and building momentum going into the playoffs. We want to keep improving each week, clean up the small mistakes, and keep building chemistry as a team. If we can do that, we’ll put ourselves in a good position heading into the postseason.”
You have two games this weekend; first against Ball Hawks and then The Last Chance. Both teams are fighting to either maintain or climb in the playoff race. How are you approaching those matchups knowing they’ll be coming in extra motivated?
“We’re expecting two really competitive games. At this point in the season everyone’s fighting for position, so we know both teams are going to come out motivated. For us it’s just about staying focused, playing our game, and matching that intensity.”
Closing Remarks
Thanks Matteo and Sam for being part of this week’s article. Each week we are inching closer to the playoffs and every game matters more than the last. That’s all I have for this week and as always, if you didn’t get a chance to respond or want to be included in future pieces, you can reach me on Facebook or Instagram @keyoncyrus.
