Intermediate 5v5 — Games to Watch

Late Season Matchups & Previews | March 2026

With playoff positioning on the line, the Intermediate 5v5 division enters one of its most important stretches of the year. Three marquee matchups are coming up, and each one carries real stakes. Before we break them down, here's a quick look at where each team stands and the player who has defined their season so far.

Team Quebec U18 — 6-1 | PF: 250 | PA: 82

The top team in the division has been defined by one thing: they do not give up points. An 82 points-against total across seven games is the stingiest mark in the league by a wide margin, and their +168 point differential tells the full story. They suffered their only loss in Week 7 against the Flagvengers but have otherwise been dominant all season, and look like the clear favourite heading into the playoffs.

MVP: Matthew Cooper (QB) — Cooper has been one of the most reliable quarterbacks in the division, completing 73 of 95 attempts (76.8%) for 758 yards, 14 touchdowns, and just 1 interception across five games. His 135 QB rating is among the best in the division. Backing him up, Raphael Gadbois has a 139 rating in limited work, giving this team exceptional depth at the position.

Flagvengers — 6-1 | PF: 256 | PA: 169

Sitting tied at 6-1, the Flagvengers are the only team that can challenge Team Quebec U18 for the top seed. They lead the division in points scored with 256, and their offence has been genuinely relentless. The tiebreaker currently goes to Team Quebec U18 on points allowed, which sets up their upcoming matchup as a seeding-defining clash.

MVP: Xavier Couture (QB) — Couture's numbers are the best of any quarterback in the division — 142 completions on 182 attempts (78.0%), 1,530 yards, 32 touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions across six games. His 137 QB rating and 32 TD total are both division highs among qualified starters.

Flagz don't lie — 5-2 | PF: 220 | PA: 141

Third place belongs to Flagz don't lie, a team that has been solid on both sides of the ball. Their defence has been one of the better units in the division, and Sam Anastasopoulos leads all players with 5 interceptions. They dropped their last game to Team Quebec U18 but have shown they can beat anyone on a given night.

MVP: Karim Madji (WR) — Madji has been highly efficient, recording 20 catches for 281 yards and 8 touchdowns in five games. His 14.1 yards per reception makes him one of the most dangerous downfield threats in the division.

Hungry Hippos — 3-3 | PF: 138 | PA: 152

The Hungry Hippos sit at .500 with one game in hand on most teams. They have had to rotate quarterbacks, with Olivier Laberge handling the bulk of the work. Their receiver Charles Verreault has been highly efficient in limited action — 21 catches for 310 yards and 7 touchdowns in just four games.

MVP: Olivier Laberge (QB) — Laberge has thrown for 725 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions with a 67.9% completion rate and a 124 QB rating across four games — numbers that give the Hippos a real shot to make noise in the playoffs if he stays healthy.

Redzone — 3-4 | PF: 187 | PA: 216

Redzone have been inconsistent, but their quarterback numbers tell a more competitive story than their record suggests. Marc-Andre Reeves has 21 touchdowns and 1,019 yards in five games, and their defence — led by Marvin Renaud — has some playmakers. They need wins to secure their playoff seeding.

MVP: Marc-Andre Reeves (QB) — 92 completions on 146 attempts (63.0%), 1,019 yards, 21 touchdowns, 5 interceptions, and a 109 QB rating. A leader in TD production despite playing for a team below .500.

Football Quebec U16 — 2-4 | PF: 132 | PA: 199

Football Quebec U16 have shown flashes of potential but have struggled to put together complete performances. Dylan Roberts has been their most productive player on offence — leading the team in passing yards and touchdowns. Their defence, anchored by Thomas Stoycheff's division-leading 20 tackles, is a genuine bright spot.

MVP: Dylan Roberts (QB/DEF) — 918 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 tackles on defence make Roberts the engine of this team. His 114 QB rating shows he is capable of moving the ball efficiently.

Green Monster — 2-5 | PF: 108 | PA: 190

Green Monster have had a difficult season, but Jordan Blouin has given their offence a legitimate deep threat. Their quarterback Jason De Souza has the second-most passing attempts in the division but has also thrown 15 interceptions, which has cost them in close games.

MVP: Jordan Blouin (WR) — 26 receptions for 417 yards and 7 touchdowns at 16.0 yards per catch. Blouin is the most explosive receiver in the division on a per-catch basis and has kept Green Monster in games they might otherwise have lost by larger margins.

Les Bench Warmers — 0-7 | PF: 94 | PA: 236

Les Bench Warmers are the only winless team in the division, but they have not been short on effort. Leo Belanger has been a reliable target, hauling in 28 catches for 383 yards and 6 touchdowns, while Christian D'Alessandro has faced significant defensive pressure all season — taking 10 sacks, the most of any quarterback in the division.

MVP: Leo Belanger (WR) — 28 receptions, 383 yards, 6 touchdowns, 13.7 yards per catch. In a season with little to celebrate in the win column, Belanger has consistently given his team a reliable option and a reason to watch.

Game Previews

Game 1 — Wed Mar 11 | Team Quebec U18 @ Hungry Hippos | BeauChateau Sportplex

For Team Quebec U18, this is a chance to keep the pressure on the Flagvengers heading into their seeding showdown and carry momentum into the late stages of the season. For the Hungry Hippos, a win here against the division's best team would be a significant confidence boost heading into the stretch run.

The matchup on offence heavily favours Team Quebec U18. Matthew Cooper has been extremely efficient all season, and his 76.8% completion rate will test a Hippos defence that has given up 152 points in six games. Hungry Hippos will need Laberge at his best to keep pace, and their receiver Charles Verreault — who averages 14.8 yards per catch — needs to be a factor early.

On defence, Jeremy St-Vil's 4 interceptions and 7 pass deflections make him the most disruptive defensive back in the division. If he can limit Laberge's options and force turnovers, this game could get away from the Hippos quickly.

Stat Prediction: Cooper goes 21/27 for 255 yards and 5 TDs. Laberge completes 16/27 for 190 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT. Verreault catches 5 passes for 75 yards and 1 TD.

Score Prediction: Team Quebec U18 34 — Hungry Hippos 20

Game 2 — Sat Mar 14 | Hungry Hippos @ Football Quebec U16 | Complexe CN

Football Quebec U16 have something to prove here, and they will be playing with urgency. At 2-4, every remaining game matters for their seeding, and a win against a .500 Hungry Hippos squad would be a real statement. The Hippos, meanwhile, are looking to string together wins and arrive at the playoffs with some wind behind them.

Roberts is the player to watch. He has been the heart of this team all season — carrying the offence while contributing on defence — and in a game this important, he will want the ball in his hands. The Hippos will need answers for him on both sides of the ball, and that is not a straightforward task.

Laberge gives the Hippos a real chance. His 124 QB rating and multiple reliable targets make this offence capable of putting up points in a hurry, and if he can find a rhythm early, Football Quebec U16 will be forced to respond. This one could go down to the wire.

Stat Prediction: Laberge goes 19/29 for 220 yards and 4 TDs. Roberts throws for 185 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT. Verreault catches 4 passes for 55 yards and 1 TD.

Score Prediction: Hungry Hippos 27 — Football Quebec U16 20

Game 3 — Sun Mar 15 | Team Quebec U18 @ Flagvengers | Laval Dome

This is the game of the week — and arguably the most important regular season matchup in the Intermediate 5v5 this year. Two teams tied at 6-1, both with legitimate cases as the best in the division, meeting to settle the top seed. Despite losing the Week 7 head-to-head, Team Quebec U18 currently holds the tiebreaker on points allowed (82 vs 169), so the Flagvengers need a win here to claim first place outright.

Xavier Couture against Jeremy St-Vil is the headlining matchup. Couture has been outstanding all season — 32 touchdowns, 1,530 yards, and a 78% completion rate — but St-Vil's 4 interceptions and 7 pass deflections make him the most qualified defender to slow him down. How Couture handles that challenge will go a long way toward deciding this game.

On the other side, Matthew Cooper's efficiency (76.8%, 1 INT all season) means the Flagvengers' defence needs to be disciplined and avoid giving up easy completions. Isiah Allard's 12 receiving touchdowns make him the most dangerous target in the red zone on the Flagvengers' side, and stopping him will be a priority for Team Quebec U18's secondary.

This game could come down to turnovers. The team that protects the ball will control the tempo, and given how well both defences have played in flashes, one big swing in the turnover battle could be decisive. The Flagvengers have the edge in offensive firepower, but Team Quebec U18 has been the more complete team all season.

Stat Prediction: Couture completes 23/32 for 245 yards and 5 TDs with 1 INT. Cooper goes 16/22 for 175 yards and 4 TDs. Allard catches 6 passes for 75 yards and 2 TDs. St-Vil records 1 INT and 2 pass deflections.

Score Prediction: Flagvengers 34 — Team Quebec U18 27

Three games, three different storylines. A seeding battle with first place on the line, a matchup with playoff implications, and a top-of-the-table showdown that could define who enters the playoffs with momentum. With playoff positioning tightening and two title contenders set to collide, the Intermediate 5v5 division is entering its most important stretch of the season.
