5v5 Competitive: Week 10 Preview with Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze

Similarly to Division 1, Week 10 of 5v5 Competitive is packed with action, featuring five games — the most we’ll see all season. In Week 9, PartyCrashers battled #NR until the final play to secure the win, then followed it up with a defensive domination over Bleue Dry 10.1 to keep their undefeated streak alive. The Braves also picked up a big win over Bleue Dry 10.1 despite having a few of their players away at the Team Canada camp in California. Lastly, Raw Dawgs turned a 14-point halftime lead into a victory over MTL Magic.

Week 10 brings a big matchup Saturday night in Brossard as Flag Moi L’Sac take on the undefeated PartyCrashers. Expect plenty of offence in this one. The Week 10 slate will open with Naproxen facing Bleue Dry 10.1 in what could go either way. PartyCrashers won’t have much time to rest, as they’ll face #NR in a rematch just one hour after their showdown with Flag Moi L’Sac.

Bleue Dry 10.1 and Flag Moi L’Sac will both play their second games of the weekend when they meet Sunday afternoon. To wrap up the week, Raw Dawgs will face #NR, and if Sanders Armand can build on his performance from last week, you can’t count #NR out of that matchup.

This week, I had the chance to speak with Flag Moi L’Sac quarterback Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze. I’ve watched his team play for a couple of seasons now and even filmed their highlights during their season opener. Nadeau-Piuze currently leads the top offence in 5v5 Competitive, and it’s always exciting to watch that group in action.

Interview with Alexandre Nadeau-Piuze

You’ve been part of the FPF Hall of Fame since 2018 and have accomplished a lot in the league. Nearly 20 years after your debut, what still pushes you to come back and play every season?

Flag football is just a reason to see some friends every week and move around a bit.

Over the years, you’ve played both tackle football and flag football. Is there anything from your tackle football experience that still influences the way you play today?

It’s completely different from football. But our offense definitely uses concepts that are more traditional football concepts.

For those who may not know the story, how did the team Flag Moi L’Sac originally form?

We were a group of friends who played together in university and wanted to stay active during the winter. We kept wanting the team to only be made up of friends joining it. I think that’s why we’ve always kept the same core and why the team is still around. As for the name, which I believe is by far the best team name, all the credit goes to Adamo Iadeluca!

Right now you’re leading the division in touchdown passes even though you’ve played fewer games than some other quarterbacks. In your opinion, what makes your offense so effective every time you’re on the field?

The Dream Team: Nicolas Arsenault-Hum, Francois Rocheleau, Guillaume Paquet, Sam Nadeau-Piuze, JP St-Pierre, Guillaume Robert

In my opinion, we have the best group of receivers. Any QB would have success with those guys.

Recently there’s been a lot of talk about possibly seeing Marc-Antoine Dequoy more in the flag football world after his recent retirement from professional football. After his performance in his debut last week, do you think we might see him again in the FPF?

I hope he comes back with us, but it will depend on schedules.

This weekend you’re facing PartyCrashers, who are currently undefeated. Many people see this matchup as a battle between youth and experience. Even with your 3-1 record, what parts of your game would you like to see the team improve to deliver your best performance on Saturday?

No idea, more than half the team will be missing this weekend. We’ll do our best.

You’re also playing in the inaugural Co-Ed 5v5 division this season. How has that experience been so far for you and your team, both on and off the field?

It’s an adjustment, but we’re really having fun. We’ve got a great group.

I asked a similar question to Dan Lazzara recently, but after everything you’ve accomplished in the FPF, what still motivates you to keep playing at this stage of your career?

I want to keep playing until I can play with my son. I saw my friend Quaid do it with his dad and I hope I can experience the same thing. I can’t stop, otherwise it’s too hard to start again.
