Division 5B: Week 9 Recap and Q&A with Lucas Crivello
With only 4.5 weeks remaining in the regular season, every game is becoming more important. In Week 9, we had seven games, and only one of them was decided by a single possession. Several teams were missing key players, but as the season begins to wind down, it becomes crucial to show up each week. You never know if that one game could be the difference between earning a bye or even making the playoffs at all.
I’ll go through some of the headlines from Week 9 before we take a look at our fantasy football lineups for the upcoming week alongside Demons captain Neil Wright. To wrap things up, we’ll also have a short Q&A with Angry Birds’ Lucas Crivello, who continues to be a major contributor on both sides of the ball and is climbing toward the top of several statistical leaderboards.
We Ain’t Done With the 90’s Sweep Week 9 at 2-0
We Ain’t Done With the 90’s won a close contest against CATCH & FLEX and followed it up with a 16-point victory over PSTM just 20 hours later. The defence played a major role in both wins, combining for six interceptions over the weekend. Tristan Spence and Justin White each recorded two interceptions, as the team continues to look more and more like a championship contender. In the game against CATCH & FLEX, the defence intercepted Alex O’Neill four times — a rare sight from the usually efficient quarterback. I was gathering film from this matchup, and it was hard to tell whether O’Neill felt the pressure from the defence or if it was simply an off night. Either way, it was a tough watch at times, even on some of the simpler throws.
On Sunday, QB Jamie Ojeaha had to carry more of the offensive load, finishing with four touchdown passes in the win. His team actually trailed 12–8 at halftime but responded with a dominant second half, outscoring PSTM 20–0 to secure the victory. Now sitting at 6–1, We Ain’t Done With the 90’s are in full control of their destiny as they push for a top-four finish and a first-round bye.
Les Mangeux de Beignes get back into the win column in pure domination
Regardless of the matchups, Les Mangeux de Beignes needed these wins to snap their four-game losing streak. They started the weekend with a dominant victory over Chomedey Chodes before following it up with another big win against Puff Puff Pass, 44–20.
In their Sunday matinee against Chomedey Chodes, I had the chance to watch part of the game while warming up for my own matchup. Facing a Chomedey team without Matthew Bottazzi certainly made things easier for Les Mangeux de Beignes, as they intercepted Jonathan Danessa three times in the win. Chomedey’s defence also struggled to slow things down, as QB Xavier Delisle finished the game with five touchdown passes and only five incompletions. Nathan Pronovost had a strong weekend as well, scoring once on offence and once on defence in the first matchup. He followed that performance up on Tuesday night with a pick-six, continuing his impact on both sides of the ball. Delisle once again led the offence with five touchdown passes in that game.
The defence also played a key role overall, recording four interceptions and two pick-sixes across the games. Even though the wins came against teams fighting for playoff spots, Les Mangeux de Beignes needed these performances to get their season back on track. Now sitting at 4–4, they have put themselves in a strong position to reach the playoffs. While nothing is guaranteed yet, picking up at least one point in their remaining two games would likely secure their spot in the postseason.
Final playoff spot still opened for many
As of the end of Week 9, the final playoff spot is currently held by Green Monster Family with a 2–4 record. Just outside the top 14, TD Blitz, Rampage, and Puff Puff Pass all suffered losses this weekend but remained only one win away from tying in points. With that in mind, the teams currently holding those last playoff spots are far from safe.
PSTM managed to go 1–1 over the weekend, highlighted by a 38-point win over Rampage that significantly boosted their point differential. My McGill Swim Team currently sits in 13th place, and with the most games remaining among the teams fighting for those final spots, it gives us a bit more room to work with compared to some of the other contenders. That said, we still need to take care of business and win our games.
Meanwhile, The Perplexors have the best point differential among the teams currently on the outside looking in. In my opinion, they also have one of the most talented rosters capable of making that jump into a playoff spot. With just over a month left in the regular season, every game matters, and the race for those final playoff positions should make for a very eventful final stretch of the season.

What’s your story with flag football?
I started playing about 5 years ago mainly because I play other sports so it would be too complicated to play them all. It’s always been fun since I started. It’s a really fun sport and something different than what I usually play so I fell in love with it right away.
What keeps you coming back season after season?
What’s kept me coming bad is really the sport itself. I always loved football so this allows me to play it and always compete.
What’s the hardest thing about your position? What would surprise people if they really watched you play?
The hardest thing at receiver would probably be cardio which I lack. What would surprise people is that I don’t drop balls
What makes your team tougher than people expect?
We have the best QB in the division and skill level at all positions. Once we start to click it’ll be very scary.
What’s something your team does well that goes unnoticed?
Can’t let out any secrets…
Jersey number story?
I like all sorts of jersey numbers but I went 18 for the Jjets.
