Division 5B: Mid-Season Team Reviews Part 2
Last Updated: February 28, 2026, 16:23 UTC
Hey everyone, we are back for the rest of the team reviews. We are able to kick off Week 9 so each game will matter much more. Teams have already separated themselves from the back where others have a lot of climbing left. With all the team success, there are individual performances that are shaping towards adding accomplishments to talented players.
Let’s get right into our team reviews:
7eleven (0-5, 11.8pts for, 31.2pts allowed)
Overall Grade: D
MVP: Ousmane Guindo
Considering Francis Dumontier had previous successful QB experience, it’s surprising that 7eleven is struggling and he is having poor numbers. This team might not be as talented as the SKOL teams Dumontier has played for but a lack of offence and a sub-par defence has led this team to the only winless team at this point in the season. Ousmane Guindo has plenty of FPF experience in higher divisions so it’s no surprise that he leads the team in every statistical category. 7evelen does have a softer schedule to end the season so if they can somehow find their way, they should be able to get a win or two to end the season.
Angry Birds (4-1, 31.0pts for, 21.8pts allowed)
Overall Grade: A-
MVP: Lucas Crivello
Angry Birds is back after the Winter 2025 season and looking to make a deep playoff run. This team has plenty of guys with FPF experience and athletes willing to learn the game. Domenico Manno has improved from his Winter 2025 season as he has 4 INTs so far and he had 17 total last winter. Alessandro Barazzoni continues to lead the team with his high IQ and quarterbacking the defense. Lucas Crivello continues to be a two-way star and we can’t forget center Matthew Iuliano and rusher Tristan Koutsoumbas making impacts on both sides. They beat my McGill Swim Team a week ago and I can see this team finishing anywhere from 9-1 to 7-3. Their last two regular season games against P.I Central and Empereurs Retraités will be good test ahead of their post-season run.
Bend Don’t Break (6-0, 38.8pts for, 15.8pts allowed)
Overall Grade: A+
MVP: Luke Moreau
Coming off a Fall 2025 Championship loss, Bend Don’t Break is looking to avenge that loss and is dominating through 5B so far. Luke Moreau shouldn't be playing in this tier of the division next season as he’s been incredible so far and his rating will definitely jump. The QB of the year award is his to lose and his worst game was a 4 TD 1 INT game against 7eleven. Having a talented group of receivers leading with Dominic Weidner and Jonah Lazarovitz. Their defence is what has teams terrified as three different players have at least 4 INTs and they have enough flag knowledge to stop nearly every concept they see. I played against them earlier this season and got blown out. They were my championship favourites at the beginning of the season and they are still the favourites. They won a close game against We Ain’t Done With the 90’s so I don’t think they are invincible. They do have tough tests coming up to end their season but I’m sure for them, it’s championship or bust given their track record and success so far.
CATCH & FLEX (4-1, 33.8pts for, 19.0pts allowed)
Overall Grade: A
MVP: Richie Mondesir
A team I know well as I’ve played with a few of their players last summer. Alex O’Neill might not have the deep ball like others in the division but he is the most accurate. O’Neill doesn’t take much risks and it hurts defences when he does cause it’s when you least expect it. Adding Richie Mondesir is a game changer as he is a great piece on both sides of the ball and Mondesir can win a way on either side. They lost their season opener against Les Mangeux de Beignes and haven’t looked back. They play 90’s and Bend Don’t Break and those will be huge games and I know they won’t be backing down. Whether they win or lose those games, this is another team where if they don’t make a deep run, it would be disappointing. This team has everything it takes to win in 5B but will it be all put together come playoff time>
Empereurs Retraités (4-0-1, 25.4pts for, 8.8pts allowed)
Overall Grade: A-
MVP: David Ringuet
Empereurs Retraités is a team where they have had great regular season success in the past or have struggles. This season is the former so far. Mathieu Duchesne has I believe the biggest arm in the division as he can throw full field passes with ease. With a full roster, this team isn’t easy to beat. What I would like to see from them is the offense being more versatile. David Ringuet has 33 targets which is great but with Victor Leblanc at 14 no other player has 10. I do worry when they play a good defense that this is something they can catch on. They haven’t had an actual loss yet which is nothing to argue against. What I will say is that every game they played, I expected them to win if they were a full team. They play Bend Don’t Break next and Angry Birds later in the season. I want to see how they fare against a top team and if they can handle their own, this might be their season to make real noise.
Jamaican Bobsled Team (1-6, 18.7pts for, 31.0pts allowed)
Overall Grade: C-
MVP: Roberto Picciola
The jump to 5b might be too much to handle for the Jamaican Bobsled Team. They were in the lowest division of 6v6 for two seasons and jumping to 5b might have been too much that what they can chew. They have played solid games in their losses to Angry Birds, TD Blitz and The Perplexors. In games against the top teams, they have struggled and the talent gap is evident. The odds aren’t in their favour as they only have three games left but if they can win all three which are very much possible, they can use this end of season as a momentum boost for a playoff berth. The leadership of Giulio Scarpetta and Roberto Picciola will be huge for this to happen.
Les Mangeux de Beignes (2-4, 22.3pts for, 30.2pts allowed)
Overall Grade: C+
MVP: Laurent Poisson
After a 2-0 start, Les Mangeux de Beignes have lost four straight and it hasn’t looked pretty. After going 6-3-1 in 5B a year ago, I thought the experience of this young team will show this time around. I will give them grace that they played Demons and Chateauguay Community College as well as Swiffer WetJets in those losses and they got outplayed by P.I Central in a game where QB Xavier Delisle didn’t play. It might be a blessing in disguise as the combined record of their remaining opponents is 8-16. They need to win these games and a test against We Ain’t Done With the 90’s will prove if they are truly a contender for the playoffs. The offence has slowed down as of late and it starts with Delisle if his team wants to have a strong finish to the regular season.
McGill Swim Team (2-3, 22.8pts for, 26.0pts allowed)
Overall Grade: C+
MVP: Evan Shibata
Here’s my team. Maybe I'll be too honest with this one. It hasn’t been the start we wanted. I knew with the jump to 5B that it would come with challenges. We have played solid in games but we have also looked very underwhelming against tougher teams. Our defence isn’t the same as last season as we can’t rely on basic defensive plays like in Division 6 and teams have been able to find open players all around the field. It isn’t too late to find out identity as we have talented skilled players such as the Shibata brothers and Arnaud Benard but it would need to be quick. This is also not Vaughn Vanslet’s best season but as receivers, we haven’t helped him. We’ve had success last season so it’s not like it can’t get back to that but with half of the season played, a near perfect end will be needed to convince myself and others that we can be a true contender come April.
PSTM (2-3, 22.8pts for, 26.0pts allowed)
Overall Grade: B-
MVP: Antonio Venturino
The addition of Ryan McNally has helped their defence, I've seen that first hand in our game against them a few weeks ago. Jesse Kotlarczyk is having his best efficiency season so far but will need to turn the ball over less. I do think his numbers are a big skewed and he is a better QB than what the numbers are saying. This team has ballers who have experience at winning and overall talented players such as captain Jordan Le and James Masciotra. Speaking of the latter, Masciotra is a player who I think if used more can unlock a new level for Koylarczyk due to his catching ability. I do see they tougher part of their schedule being over except for facing We Ain’t Done With the 90’s in Week 9 so a finish where they have less than 5 wins to me will be a bit disappointing.
TD Blitz (1-4, 11.4pts for, 31.4pts allowed)
Overall Grade: D+
MVP: Dynell Pierre
It’s been a tough outing for Khaled Saadi at QB. A great guy who has practiced over the year and in his first season throwing full time since Fall 2024 hasn’t been too great. I get it and I’ve spoken to him. Playing QB ain’t easy, I can attest to my tough start in 6A so I applaud him for keeping staying on the field. Like many QBs, once the ball is thrown deep, it’s tough and I’ve seen it with Saadi. When he keeps the game short, he has much more focus and efficiency. He also doesn’t have reliable receivers in Alex O’Neill and Standly Williams this season as they are on CATCH & FLEX so it’s a new adjustment. It’s not a lost season because I can see a world where they win two of their final 5 games and get one of the final playoff spots. This team has the ability to win games and if Saadi can control the game in some of these matchups, it will only go up for TD Blitz.
We Ain't Done With the 90’s (4-1, 28.4pts for, 13.6pts allowed)
Overall Grade: A
MVP: Justin White
Another team coming back to avenge a championship loss as We Ain’t Done With the 90’s are coming back to get their get-back after a Winter 2025 loss in 6A. A team whose identity relied on defence a year ago, the 90’s boys are back and allowed the 2nd lowest points allowed so far this season. Jamie Ojeaha continues to use his FPF experience leading his team on offence with 18 TDs with only 4 INTs. This team isn’t headlined with a single top receiver but rather a collective group. A team full of depth and have players who can attack from different angles. Adding Justin White might be the biggest addition to any team in 5b as he co-leads in INTs with 6 in only 4 games played. Even though they took a loss to Bend Don’t Break, this team has high championship goals and anything but that will be seen as a disappointment for the boys in the 90’s.
