Division 4A: Mid-Season Team Reviews Part 1
Hey everyone, we are back for our first of two Team Review articles. Several teams have played at least 5 games so it will be good to look at where each team stands and where I can see them by the end of the 10th game. Before that, I have included the fantasy football result against Richie Mondesir from last week so let’s check that out first!
Week 7 Fantasy Football Results
Team Reviews
Are You Not Entertained (2-4, 25.7pts for, 32.2pts allowed)
Overall Grade: C+
MVP: Nathanael Dinku
Having a mix of QBs hasn't done this team good as they are currently 2-4. Recently, Samuel “Gucci” Omombo has been filling in as QB and he might be the answer. Previously winning Division 5A last winter with a few players on this team as Reborn Prospect, it’s clear Omombo has found chemistry with this team if he is to stay. This team has playmakers all over so it’s alarming that they allow over 32pts per game when their defence is usually their strength. It’s not over yet but if they find themselves with 2 losses in their remaining four games, it will be tough to see Are You Not Entertained in the playoff picture.
Bible Study (2-3, 35.0pts for, 40.8pts allowed)
Overall Grade: B-
MVP: Rocco Christiano
Evan Vavinis is on pace for 54 TDs and Rocco Christiano is on pace for one of the best receiver seasons in FPF history. Clearly the offence isn’t the issue. The problem is that they can’t defend. Bible Study allows the most points in the league so even if they score 25+ points which for them is a subpar performance, they aren’t going to mathematically win. The team is restricted with both Christiano and CFL player Joey Corcoran taking on heavy duties on both sides of the ball that opposing teams have been able to attack elsewhere. I see all five remaining games to be challenging but with this team being very star heavy, I can see them still making the playoffs as a lower seed. If they were able to figure out their defence, teams won’t have much of an answer to match their offence.
Black Vipers (2-3, 30.0pts for, 30.2pts allowed)
Overall Grade: B-
MVP: Gianni Casati
With this being Casati’s first season at receiver in the men’s division, he’s doing just fine. I first watched him with Balls & TD’s last Winter in Co-Ed 3 and it was unfair. Mathis Coulombe has been good with a 65% completion rate and 21 TDs so far. Like Bible Study, Black Vipers are struggling to defend. I think Vincent Richard is one of the best IQ defenders in this division but with his team only with 3 INTs and he has two of them, Black Vipers will need to create turnovers in order to alleviate pressure from their offence. They have winnable games remaining on their schedule but they also play some high powered offences such as Snowdon Deli Degens and Nut N’ Run. Currently in the 9th seed, a second half collapse is screaming danger zone for this group if they can’t figure out their defence.
Ducks (5-1, 30.2pts for, 22.2pts allowed)
Overall Grade: A
MVP: Philippe Barbeau
After a 22-6 season opener loss to Dak To The Future, Ducks have won five in a row. Antoine Chabot is 2nd in TDs for QBs and only has 4 INTs. With three players with over 20 catches he trusts a good core of guys to get the job and his receiving core has an excellent supporting cast such as Gabriel Barbeau to compliment their main playmakers. Philippe Barbeau is second in the division with 5 INTs and also leads the division in tackles, proving that he’s someone to avoid if ur an opposing QB. With a huge win over Snowdon Deli Degens last week, the remainder of their schedule looks favorable for a 9-1 finish if they don’t play down to their competition.
Snowdon Deli Degens (4-1, 41.8pts for, 30pts allowed)
Overall Grade: A
MVP: Sam Anastasopoulos
Speaking of Deli Degens, the loss to Ducks was their only loss so far this season. Adam Malinoff is on pace for 48 TDs and 10 INTs if he keeps this rate up. From watching a few of their games, Malinoff does have a few INTs thrown that he would want to take back. Outside of that, it’s a trio of Matthew Fixman, Sam Anastasopoulos and Lewis Epstein leading the way for the highest scoring offence in the division. A team that can score in different ways do find their way to sometimes handicap themselves in games. They do have a game against Nut N’ Run that I’m excited to see two QBs who love to score. Snowdon Deli Degens are in a better spot than their Winter 2025 season and can be seen as the team to beat in the playoffs.
Team Ethnik (1-4, 25.3pts for, 34.6pts allowed)
Overall Grade: D+
MVP: David De Andrade
After a successful Fall 2024 in Tier 4, it’s been a rough first half for Team Ethnik. A team known to rely on the deep arm of Benoit Lawlor is now struggling scoring teams when other teams are able to score at ease against them. Averaging 3 INTs per game will not win many games so it starts with either better reads or an improved connection with his receivers. This veteran team is in the bottom 5 in both sacks and INTs for a defence so it’s hard to win games and play catch up. They won their last game against Ball Hawks and with only four teams not making playoffs, a win or two can possibly clinch them a spot. David De Andrade continues to be a threat for Lawlor but I would expect for him to be looked at more in the red zone down the stretch.
The Last Chance (1-5, 21.2pts for, 35.8pts allowed)
Overall Grade: D
MVP: Merton Theagene
Natan Girouard-Langlois’ best game I would say was their most recent, in a six point loss to the undefeated Trapstars team. If Girouard-Langlois can build momentum based on that game, The Last Chance has opportunities to get some wins down the stretch. What also doesn’t help this team is availability of players. They have played six games and only 4 players have played in every game. For a team at a 1-5 start, consistency can’t happen if guys are in and out of the lineup. A two week break can maybe do this team good but their game against Are You Not Entertained seems to be a must-win at this point.
The Penetrators (2-3, 33.4pts for, 34pts allowed)
Overall Grade: B
MVP: Justin Goodman
If I were to show the stats of Goodman as QB to someone and to assume the team record, it probably won’t be 2-3. With 25 TDs so far, this team is ranked 6th in points for. Adding Alexandre Szalipszki makes an impact on both sides of the ball and this team already has playmakers in Nicholas Fon and Alexi Dubois who will need to take the next step with their defence. With the exception of the loss to Dak To The Future, their losses were by 3 points or less. They play Snowdon Deli Degens in Week 9 and finish their season against Trapstars. If the defence can slowly click, this is a team more than capable to cause damage in the postseason.
