Women's Division C: The Playoff Picture and the Awards Race

With three weeks left on the regular season calendar, Women's Division C has sorted itself into three distinct tiers. Obsidian and Run Like a Girl have separated themselves at the top, A-TOWN WHITE sit third with the division's best point differential, and four teams below them are still working out who joins the six-team playoff field. Meanwhile, the individual numbers are shaping up an awards race worth watching in its own right.

The Bye Race Comes Down to One Game

Only two byes are available in Women's Division C, going to the top two seeds heading into the semifinals. Obsidian have all but claimed one of them — at 8-1 with one game remaining, they'd need a near-total collapse to lose it.

The second spot comes down to a single game. Run Like a Girl and A-TOWN WHITE meet head-to-head on August 1, and because it's their only remaining matchup against each other, the result effectively decides which team stays alive for the bye. A win keeps a team's ceiling at 16 points if they run the table elsewhere; a loss caps the loser at 14 points, since Run Like a Girl would have only one game left after that result and A-TOWN WHITE would have two — neither enough to climb back to 16 once the loss is on the board.

A-TOWN WHITE bring the better underlying numbers into that game — their plus-80 point differential and division-low 76 points allowed both lead everyone, including Obsidian. Run Like a Girl counter with the division's most balanced record and a plus-68 differential of their own. Whichever side wins on August 1 controls its own path to the bye; the loser will need help.

The Battle Below

With Obsidian, Run Like a Girl, and A-TOWN WHITE all mathematically safe, the fight for the remaining three playoff spots comes down to four teams: Les Valkyries and Lionnes, tied at six points apiece, The Rock at four, and A-TOWN BLACK at two. Only one of these four misses the playoffs — and A-TOWN BLACK's own remaining schedule is the pivot point for the entire group.

A-TOWN BLACK play both The Rock (Week 10) and Les Valkyries (Week 11) before the season is out, which means their results don't just shape their own standing — they cap how high the other two can climb. A win over The Rock would drop The Rock's ceiling to six points, since their only other game left is against Obsidian. A win over Les Valkyries would freeze the Valkyries at six points for good, since that's their final game of the season. And if A-TOWN BLACK sweeps all three of their remaining games — The Rock, Les Valkyries, and A-TOWN WHITE — they'd finish at eight points, enough to leapfrog Les Valkyries outright and put real pressure on The Rock as well.

Lionnes are the one team in this group not tangled up in that chain — their remaining games are against A-TOWN WHITE and Run Like a Girl, both already safely in the playoff field — so their fate rests entirely on their own results rather than anyone else's. For the other three, the order they finish in may be decided as much by A-TOWN BLACK's next three games as by their own.

Awards Watch

Quarterback of the Year

Three different cases here. Elyane Garneau leads the division outright in yards (1,090), completions (107), and touchdowns (18) — the most productive arm by raw numbers, though her 15 interceptions are also a division high. Adele Nadeau counters with the best rating among high-volume passers (89), matching Garneau's touchdown pace on far less volume with only 6 interceptions. Laurie Cristofaro brings the clearest tie to team success, throwing for 13 touchdowns while running an 8-1 Obsidian offense built around her connection with Gabrielle Gibeault. Volume, efficiency, and team success each point to a different name.

Receiver of the Year

Gabrielle Gibeault is the clear front-runner, leading the division in catches (47), yards (514), and touchdowns (11), with a 90.4 percent catch rate far ahead of every other high-volume receiver — tied directly to Obsidian's record. Les Valkyries have two names worth mentioning behind her: Heidy Garneau leads the division in targets (59) and has slightly more raw yardage (400) over nine games, while Mélissa Millette matches her touchdown total (7) and catch rate in seven games, giving Les Valkyries arguably the deepest receiving corps in the division even with a losing record.

Defensive Player of the Year

If interceptions carry the most weight, Laeticia Dorismond is the clear top choice — her 11 interceptions are nearly 40 percent more than anyone else in the division, and she's turned two of them into touchdowns to go with 5 pass deflections. Ella-May Dupuis makes her own case with a division-high 32 tackles and 8 interceptions, doing it on The Rock's last-place defense — a bright spot on a struggling unit. Marguerite Thifault is tied with Dupuis at 8 interceptions, a pure ball-hawk number on a second-place Run Like a Girl team.

Rusher of the Year

Anabelle Brassard stands well clear of the field with 5 sacks in just 5 games — no one else in the division is within two sacks of her total. It's the clearest individual case in any award category this season.

Other Notes

Obsidian have a candidate in three of the four award categories above — Cristofaro at quarterback, Gibeault at receiver, and Dorismond on defense — which lines up cleanly with their position atop the standings.

Les Valkyries present the opposite pattern: award-level talent at quarterback (Garneau), receiver (both Heidy Garneau and Millette), and now rusher (Brassard), on a team that sits 3-6.

A-TOWN WHITE's passing production has come through a rotation of arms rather than one settled starter, an unusual profile for a team carrying the division's best point differential.
