Co-Ed 5 v 5 Division: Blowouts All Around

Blowouts were the theme this past week in the 5 v 5 Co-Ed Division, as three out of the four games ended in one-sided fashion.

Maple Syrup took advantage of an absent Jeanslee Alexis, as they easily got past The IG Team, beating them (46-19) Saturday afternoon at Concordia.

Replacing the versatile Alexis at Quarterback was Philip Orcel. The second-year veteran who suited up for Les Woo’s in Co-Ed 2 last winter, finished a respectable 17 of 24 for 165 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Unfortunately for him and the team, it wasn’t enough to stop the bleeding on defense.

That cuts were made by opposing QB Marc-Andre Reeves, as he sliced and diced The IG Team defenders to the tune of 263 yards and six touchdowns, while completing 24 of 35 passes. His top targets were to Receivers Geraldine Cabillo-Abante, Gab Couture, Gabrielle Mongrain, and Serge Pilon Jr., as they all caught at least one TD.

It was a rough start to the season for The IG Team, but at least it was only one game. They have a short turnaround as they take on Air Buds tonight in Brossard. Assuming Alexis will be in the lineup, this should be a high-scoring matchup.

The good times didn’t last for Maple Syrup, as they were blown out (46-25) to Activated one day later.

Reeves had another solid outing with 236 yards passing and four touchdowns, but he was outplayed by QB Ben McMahon, who went 27 of 32 for 319 yards and an impressive seven TDs.

Stepping into the spotlight along with McMahon were his Receivers Rory Semerjian and Ethan Adrian. The duo was dominant as they combined for 17 catches for 238 yards and six TDs.

Joining the trio in all the offensive fun was Lara Uzoka and Abigaelle Perreault. Both females had five grabs for 45 and 42 yards respectively, while the latter also recorded a TD for good measure.

The win for Activated got them back on track after a tough (36-33) Week 1 loss to Touski. The team won’t have to wait long for revenge, as they take on Touski this Sunday night in Laval, in what looks like a game of the week candidate.

As I said earlier the final game in Week 3 will see The IG Team taking on Air Buds. Both teams sit with identical (0-1) records, while there are still nine weeks left in the regular season, a win tonight would go a long way towards wither side climbing their way out of the basement of the division.

Both teams have speed, length, big ply ability and championship experience. This game will come down to two things. Can the Air Buds defense take away the deep passing game of the IG Team offense, and can the Air Buds swarming defense disrupt the Air Buds offense and create takeaways?
